  1. because he's not one of the greatest QB's ever, and we aren't getting him circa 2004. We're getting a broken declining shell of a QB who is a massive ego maniac.... lovely.

That deserves its own thread. he is definitely top 10 all time if not top 5.

  2. Besides Wallace wanting a lot more money than what his play dictates what indication do you get that Wallace is a head case?

Other than that. I think he may be diluted into thinking he is better than what he is. Santonio thought the same way and Pittsburgh navigated accordingly. they already had young stars waiting in the wings and it worked well for them.

I am not saying he is a complete mental but many of my friends who are steelers think that this sort of outlandish offer means 1 of 2 things.

1.) He really believes he is that much better than what he is. We agreed that half of that would be about the highest we would go.

    or

2.) He really doesnt want to be there and asking for that kind of money is just his way of saying it.

Either way I cant be sure what the hell he is thinking, but I think the steelers have him one more year go to the well late and find somebody who is not even making a mil for a couple years and is still productive. The steelers do well at drafting receiver the only major gaffe in recent history is Limas Sweed.

  3. I will say that as a Ravens fans I would not mind him going elsewhere, that being said he has not done much against us. It only takes one play though to kick you out or a game or god forbid a playoff game and Wallace has the ability. If he stays a steeler than Webb needs to stay a Raven.

That said I dont think he becomes a life long steeler. not because of the tender or the steelers not matching the offers, but because the steelers treat talented head cases like an old man treats young hookers. they bang them out when they are great and the gettin is good and ditch them before they become a head case. That is what they did with Santonio they took his best years and then let him go after they found someone else.

Considering this year is deep with speed and receiver talent I see them keeping him one more year to get the rookie acclimated and letting him walk next year.

Also if someone gives him a big offer then it is best to let him leave. The steelers have been predicated on defense for many years and cutting all those old guys are great and I know the steelers like their DE's and backers and things of that nature. That said I am not sure of the depth that have inside. Sylvester maybe who was productive and all that but I think he could use a few more seasons.

Either way I dont care much though because Webb seems to hold his own against Wallace and honestly I want the ravens to keep their own pick because we have a deep threat that is coming along nicely regardless.

  4. Ike Taylor you could make a case for, not saying he is but at least a case that is not completely laughable can be made. I think Ike often gets overshadowed by the star power on not only that defense but their is another guy in that secondary who has had some success too. (Although the sun has set for him and Ed Reed in my opinion) Both teams are going to be looking for a safety soon.

joe Haden MIGHT be the best corner in the AFCN but all the teams in that division can bring a worthy adversary to that crown and on any given day any of them could win it.

  5. I think that unless your Coach is mike McCarthy or Mike Holmgren good luck with that polishing bit. Aaron Rodgers has said that he learned infinitely more from his coaches than he learned from Favre because his game is different. McCarthy saw potential and had to completely revamp Aaron Rodgers footwork to make him into the guy he is. Brett did not help him much in the footwork department and what makes rodgers great are 2 totally different things. Favre operated more on the dare to be great philosophy and was everything you could want out of an NFL gun slinger. He had the big arm and feared no defense and would make nay throw any time and let his receiver make a play.

Rodgers is more of the school of though were he does not just throw it up when he is done with his progression and hopes a great player makes a great play. He uses his feet to buy him time to see if anything shakes loose down the field. If not he will scramble for the first. It is two totally different things.

The wild card here is Matt Flynn if he does with what he has done in GB on a limited basis then it is safe to assume that it is really more or less the coaching that the system. The reason I say that is because he is more of the Rodgers Favre Combo he can buy you time with his feet but is not as athletic as Rodgers. Although he does allow his receivers to go up and make plays and in Seattle with their big receivers could work well. he is a guy that got his chance to do well as a back up and made the most of it but was not projected as a starter in this league by anyone, but under McCarthy he has strung some damn good games together.

If it were who you learned under than Kevin Kolb should of at least had a better season than what he was showing. Reid is a guy who can make a running game work damn well. He was not a guy who is proclaimed for his success with QB's. he had Donovan who in his prime was a damn good QB and yet Kolb didn't learn much from him or Vick and stunk it up. Kafka is so so and would probably not start for any team in the league right now with exception to the dolphins is Garrard is hurt. All that said holmgren is a good offensive mind and obviously has a great system but not one that grooms QBS.

Also Bill Walsh was excellent in the QB section but even without Montana I think Steve would have been great. Was it cool to see how a consummate pro deals with pressure, I am sure that helped. That taken into consideration though I am sure he could have done what he did on many teams.

I guess all that was to say I think the mentor part is extremely overblown and really depends mainly on the coaches and next the system you are in and far less on who is ahead of you on the depth chart. Also with the mentor rule in effect how would you explain back ups who become better than the starter after they go to a different team.

  6. we're trying to recreate who was taken in the posts that were lost, so if you had a pick (which it looks like you did) and you remember who you took post it in this thread and the official selection thread will be updated, then we'll get rolling again right where we left off

Oh Ok cool, It was Tommy Streeter from the U,

  7. With the 54th pick in the NFL draft the Baltimore Ravens select:

    Mychal Kendricks, ILB, Cal

    ba-cal14_PH_0502393256.jpg

He is the Pac 12 defensive player of the year. He is a little small for the position but has good instincts and has great sideline to sideline speed. I think with a full off season under his belt he will challenge Jameel McClain for the starting role next to Ray Lewis. One or two years to learn all he can from a legend of the game at that position. He excels in all aspects of his position but but block shedding which is about average at the moment. He is great in coverage and can rush the passer from his position. He ran the fastest 40 of all LB's at the combine and his tape backs up the speed, and he is also as strong as any LB in the Draft. Had he played for a school like Bama he would have been a first round prospect IMO. The Ravens get a good get here.

  8. You really think Zack Brown would fit in Baltimore...?

Absolutely ! I would love to see him in a Baltimore uniform. Honestly had I not traded back to make up for the fourth that we lost in the Evans trade, He was my choice. I think he gives us much youth and speed at LB, and that said Kindle was supposed to be our pass rusher but he couldnt navigate some stairs, so as they say shit happens. But the defense that Dean Pees is building is going to be fast and flexible. He just screams an Ozzie pick.

  9. I'll say this, what he shows on film you can't measure in numbers. I think the only thing the combine does is give them the distinction between top 20 and top 10. The thing about the combine that gets me is immediately after the season is over in college they train for it.

Many people work with a track coach to be able to learn the stance and how to distribute weight and maximize explosion coming out of it. That is great in the NFL if you arent wearing pads and start in a sprinters stance. It is a fact that people who are tall "long striders" meaning their 40 might not be great but when they hae their gait all full stride they are hard to catch. 40's would not indicate that, maybe a 60 wood but the only time you see that is on tape."

The only thing I really pay attention to is bench press reps, because upper body strength on tape cant be seen as clearly but it directly effects their impact at certain positions.

And in my mind if you have one receiver pegged as your guy and a 10th of a second chances that he was never really your guy.

  10. Definitely understand the shelf life but looking at every position on teh field there arent many long careers across the board. WR's, CB, S, LB's all have the same shelf life when it comes to their most productive years. So does that mean corners and WR's are less valued because if anything they are shooting up the boards like never before.

  11. Ray Rice has led the league in yards from scrimmage over the last 3 years every year. Does that make him better than Marshall Faulk, Barry, Emmit, or Payton. I dont think so, but his first 3 compare to theirs. I think it is similar to Wallace in that aspect. Great but not top of the heap and does not merit conmparisons like that YET.

  12. As a ravens fan we have always been a run first type of team and succeeded with it (Until Cam Cameron, but we wont even get started on that). That being said everybody is saying that this is a passing league. I am not saying I disagree or agree but I have noticed something. Looking at the past SB's while they have had at least serviceable running games if not good ones. Looking at the patriots who really dont run a lot they have been O an3 since they lost the D and what little game they had. They are the team that epitomizes they get out of it what they need out of it. I was watching the playoffs this year and noticed that all the teams but a few exceptions made concerted effort to run the ball. The bengals, The Texans, The Ravens, The Steeler's, and The Broncos all have balance or are running teams so to speak. The NFC the saints, The Falcons, The 9er's also make concerted efforts to run the ball,. So I looked at the SB and the team with the better running game won. Also looking back at teh Pack, they arent known for the running game but during that post season James starks decide he was going to be great. The Steelers and their success and so on.

So if this is the case then why is the running game going by the way side. I mean a great passing attack that spreads the D would benefit immensely from a good running game. The steelers have been successful with spreading and stretching the field and using stretch runs and things like that. The Texans who have had a good offense for a while use Foster the same way. So is the running back position really dying in leiu of the pass ? Crowd source here people.

  13. No... Even by the articles own omission he is behind Boldin in his first 3 seasons. Boldin was always good but I would not give him the distinction of great.

    Since those 2:

    Megatron>>>>>>>> Mike Wallace

    Fitz>>>>>Mike Wallace

    AJ>>>>> Mike Wallace

Also looking at it who was Megatrons QB previous to this year. Fitz has had Curt Warner, John Skelton and Kevin Kolb. AJ had David Carr in his best years and then an often injured Schaub. mike Wallace has had a QB that is extremely tough to bring down which does two things it prolongs the play for him to use his speed. And it makes the DB hesitate thinking it is a sack. So he gets a lot of separation that way. So he has a more consistent QB, and more QB consistency.

And to the last point the disparity between elite speed and good speed int eh NFL is fractions of a second and I dont know many receivers his age that get faster. Once a speed receivers slows down a 10th of a second he is nowhere near as scary. He has some good years ahead of him but he is not the big bodied strong guy that has staying power. Or the crafty route runner that insure separation like Jerry, CC, or a welker (that hurt a bit to say).

  14. If I am the panthers I see if Jerry Angelo wants to trade up to get Floyd and I trade back and get Janoris Jenkins. Then I pick a 2nd and or 3rd and still get a good defensive player. I think The Bears will be interested in Floyd early to make sure they get him before another receiver needy team gets him after an inevitable run. Keuchly would also be a good possibility.

Also there are two things this class is deep on and that's WR and DL so great talent can be found late and great value. You may as well get a guy who is mega talented and isnt as much depth in the draft.

  15. I have to say the Hawks. Somebody who is going to bring out the money for him. The have receving weapons already package Peyton, Wayne to Sidney Rice, Doug Baldwin , and Marshawn Lynch. Also with Mike Williams back that is a very tall very fast offense. That and they have a young talented O line with all of them being drafted in the first 3 rounds. That and a defense like he has never had. I think he may light it up there and is the best fit for him.

  16. Who the fuck is Rueben Randle? This thing is goin a little down hill.

He is a good receiver, IMO it was a bit of a reach though he could have been had in the second. That said though people tend to panic when the draft board goes on a run. Last the run on receiver happened to after Julio was taken than teams started to panic on other receiver needy teams above them so they got a guy who they liked at reeceiver instead of somebody they loved at another position. Baldwin anyone ?

  17. I was thinking Konz for the Ravens but his 15 reps at the Combine worried me. That said if the addage is true that tape doesnt lie, Konz is going to keep Stafford clean for a while and they found somebody who can keep Raji, and Paea in check. Good pick if he can add some serious strength he is going to be damn good;

  18. I pretty much don't agree with any of this.

No, he's not on the same level as AJ Green or Julio Jones, and he's definitely not considered the better WR between him and Blackmon.

Well considering that they year they both graduated Floyd had a better yeah than noth of them it would appear that he is more than capable of putting up those kinds of numbers and being every bit as good. The big difference is I bet you know who QB'ed at least one of Georgia's or Bama's team. Now how many know who the hell is Notre Dame's. And the disparity between Blackmon and Floyd isnt as great as you say it is.

All indicators say that he is.

  19. Hang on, let's step back a second...anybody think the Rams reached a tad with Michael Floyd 8th overall?

I like it, they have who they beleive to be there franchise guy at QB, solid running game, and a decent group of young receievers who could excel in the slot. If they keep Bradon Lloyd and then Have Micheal Floyd who is a big body guy with excellent hands. Also explosive off the line and will be damn hard to Jam. that means next year they are going to have their pick of the lineman because most peopl are going to get them this year. A gem might fall into their lap. they could get some damn good guards in the second or third and be able to pick up a great tight end in the 5th or 6th and their offense is set.

Personally I would have gone with a guy late with potential but right now it makes a lot of sense for them.
