    Most Attractive Coaching Job?

I totally forgot about Buffalo. Actually, I'd change my answer to Buffalo. Lots of talent to build around there. They were very poorly coached IMO. Get them a QB who excels out of play action (and stop that wide open up tempo shotgun non sense when you have Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller to ride.) Byrd is probably the best FS in the league now. Nice piece at CB in Gilmore. Talent all across the DL. They need some LB help to shore up that run defense. A WR opposite of Stevie, and some more OL help, good to go.

    Momentum coming into the playoffs

I want to think Minnesota is gonna pull it off, but I just can't trust Christian Ponder in the playoffs. AP is so beast and unstoppable though, so it makes it so hard to choose the winner of that match-up.

    Non-Local Favorite Teams

Born and raised in Florida, and support three Florida teams. Yet both Tallahassee and Jacksonville are 8 hours away from me. Which is like being in another state for people who live in those little bitch states (small states are un-American, might as well be Europe AMIRITE?) I do support the Panthers in the NHL, and Miami is only 2 hours away from me. But never liked the Dolphins or Bucs (Tampa/Miami both 2 hours from me) growing up. In fact I absolutely hated the Dolphins growing up (and specifically Dan Marino.) Not exactly sure why but it probably had to do with seeing his jersey everywhere and seeing him wet his panties in need of a tampon every Sunday and I wasn't with that move. Nobody even cared about the Bucs back then, and by time they ditched the creamsicle unis and got respectable I was already a Jags fan. My parents were Packers' fans, and I wanted my own team, a new Florida team was the perfect setup. Plus, when I played Madden, one of the early Jags' players had my last name and I thought that was cool (because I was a stupid fucking kid.) As far as MLB and NBA go though... I'm a Chicago White Sox and Bulls fan. Always have been. Now, Florida didn't have MLB and NBA teams until after I was born, but the Heat were around before I became a Bulls fan. I think we all know why I became a Bulls fan for the most part, but also WGN helped a lot. The Bulls were the team I saw the most on TV growing up, so naturally they were my squad. Same with the White Sox. Jordan and Frank Thomas ♥ I stuck with both teams through their ugly years too, still a huge fan of both.

    NFP's early top 200

It's pretty wild how different everyone's boards are. Like with everyone else's, some things I agree with here, and others I strongly disagree with.

    Gronk'D Overrated/Underrated

I actually agree with your Flacco comparison. He's better than Gabbert though. Glennon needs the right system to be effective. He's a completely different QB when he's able to go up tempo, spread out, and operate from the gun. Much like Joe Flacco (who has been wrongfully used in Baltimore so far.) Under center both guys are different QBs — aka not very good. I'd say the same for Brandon Weeden too. Glennon reminds me of Weeden/Flacco a lot. What I find interesting is that Geno Smith actually looks better under center than out of the gun, so he's been incorrectly used as well. When he's under center Geno uses his feet more (obviously), and that makes him more accurate because he has great footwork. Out of the gun he gets lazy with it, and thus makes him more inconsistent. Yet people paint Geno as a spread offense gimmick QB, which is pretty funny.

    Most Attractive Coaching Job?

If they don't like Rivera in Carolina, I'd say there. Even though obviously he still hasn't been fired (but it's much like Jacksonville's situation, no GM, and a lame duck Head Coach.) I think Cam is very salvageable. He's got some maturity issues, but has shown signs this year he's learning slowly but surely (apologizes after the game publicly to the ref he bumped into/said something disrespectful to.) Their defense kind of flew under the radar this year, they had a very solid year, especially down the stretch. If I'm Chip Kelly, I'm putting it out to Jerry in Carolina that I'm interested. They still have no GM, so Kelly could still have a good amount of power there as of now if Jerry would oblige.

    Black Monday!

Exactly. I keep telling people this who always say they're skeptical of his run option offense in the NFL (not like the Redskins didn't make it work or anything btw ) But that's not his draw, it's not his offense that has teams intrigued, like DMHOF said it's the way he runs things, the way he operates. His practices, how fast and professional they are (which is why Belicheck went to pick his brain.) His new style of decision making (people are calling it Kellyball, a play on Moneyball.) Not in the sense of WAR or anything like baseball, football isn't close to an individual sport like baseball. But in percentages on going for it on 4th down and certain yardages, when to onside kick, when to go for two, etc. etc. This guy leaves no stone unturned. With his mind, there's no way he'd implement his Oregon offense if he didn't have the talent for it to work on his NFL team. He'd get creative, like he always has, and cook up something different. The only iffy thing about Kelly is that he wants nearly full control, that's risky personnel wise. Does he have a handle on the NFL and it's players? Tom Coughlin made a similar jump with the Jags and had lots of control, that worked out until they spent big in '98 and '99 and the salary cap got them in trouble. Although the difference is Coughlin has NFL coaching experience before then anyways (coached on Parcell's Giants SB staff, etc.) So it would be a first I think, being Kelly has no NFL experience. Tough sell.

Bryan Anger says he will "punt the Jaguars to greatness."

Set a record for "most punts." Nothing to be proud of, but it does show that his records for gross/avg. aren't just because he didn't punt a lot. Hard to keep it up after so many punts.

    Jags fire GM Gene Smith

This, Bill O'Brien and others declined the Jags' offer because they didn't like Gabbert. Mularkey was desperate and said all the right things, so Gene Smith recommended him to Khan, and Khan being new and naively trusting Smith's judgement okayed the hire. Mularkey's coaching results speak for themselves. He's not cut out for it, not many are. Usually you wouldn't just cut ties after one bad year, but it was a record setting bad year. It's a guy who was hand picked by the guy you just fired, he's also been reported to have conflict with players in the locker room already. He's a reminder of past failure, when you rebuild, with a new GM, new philosophy from top down, you must clean it out fully, not half like the Jags have done in the past (fire Shack Harris, promote Gene Smith.) That's already shown it doesn't work. Clean house, and do it right.

    Predict Your Teams Record

I predicted 7-9 going in... even that was way off. I figured, no way they can't win 2 more games than last year right?
  15. CampinWithaMissingPerson

    Jags fire GM Gene Smith

You actually like Mularkey? The guy is terrible at halftime adjustments. Every game at halftime we're either tied, down by at most a touchdown or leading. By time the third quarter ends we're down twenty. It's ridiculous. The other team adjusts to what the Jags are doing, and the Jags do nothing different. Thus they get exposed and they're plan going into the game falls apart because the other team adjusted. The guy just isn't made to be a Head Coach in the NFL. Period. He — like Gene Smith, is a victim of the Peter Principle.

MJD will have surgery, out until May

Yeah he's not done, but he DOES have wear and tear. He wasn't in a time share "half his career." He shared carries his first two years, then they cut Fred and MJD has been a work horse ever since. He's led the league in rushing attempts two years since then. His running style is ridiculously punishing. Think Earl Campbell. It's not like he's out there juking guys and avoiding hits. He's literately slamming into and through guys every play. That's not good long term. Honestly I think you could get MJD for a 3rd round pick right now. Foot surgery, getting older, contract dispute. He can be had once the new GM comes in.

Tebow To Jacksonville A Virtual Certainty

Agreed. He so obviously went to New York over Jacksonville for the spot light too (not that I'm complaining — AT ALL.) The guy is an attention whore, plain and simple. With that said, he's not alone, and most NFL players are. But my biggest beef isn't with Tebow, it's with his following and the media coverage. He's painted as this darling, when he's just not. He's just a guy. Yet he gets all this attention and he knows it and exploits it. You can't really blame him, but at the same time, he plays the righteous role and it just doesn't sit well with me. If he were to "turn heel" and just admit to himself and everyone what he's about I'd actually respect him more. Like Kobe in a sense. Be yourself Tim, not just behind closed doors or some of the time, be yourself all the time.

    Gronk'D Overrated/Underrated

Could of sworn I already posted him but re-read and I didn't. Since his coach left, he's likely to enter the draft now and this guy is a major sleeper in the draft: QB, David Fales, San Jose State. Most efficient QB in the draft, teams could stay away due to his size (*cough* Russell Wilson *cough*) But this guy is a fucking field general. Not in the "game manager" way either. He sees the field exceptionally, very very accurate, good feel for momentum. Smart QB. He gave Stanford all they could handle, and his team is ranked 24th in the nation, ranked in the BCS for the first time ever. Mostly thanks to his outstanding play. Major sleeper in the middle rounds if he declares.

    Best rookie wide receiver?

Interesting, even over Gordon? Like you said though, he is a 3rd option. Which makes the stats impressive. But again, who doesn't have 30+ receptions on the Colts offense? Their rookie TE Allen was even up there in a few of these stat categories too, but obviously since he wasn't a WR I left him off. The Browns run more than both the Colts and Jags. Rams run a lot too. Last I checked anyways. I agree about Jeffery too, shame about his injuries.
  22. CampinWithaMissingPerson

    Best rookie wide receiver?

Let's revisit this as we've been through 16 weeks with one more to go in the regular season. Receptions: 1) Kendall Wright 62 2) Justin Blackmon 58 3T) T.Y. Hilton 46 3T) Josh Gordon 46 5) Chris Givens 40 Both Wright and Blackmon are used exclusively as possession guys, while Gordon, Hilton, and Givens are asked to be deep threats for their teams so the slight gap in catches makes sense. Rec. Yards: 1) Justin Blackmon 786 2) Josh Gordon 766 3) T.Y. Hilton 750 4) Chris Givens 644 5) Kendall Wright 586 This was surprising, being Blackmon doesn't run as many deep routes as the others (possession WR, Shorts is the deep threat), and was about 100 yards behind Gordon when this thread started. He was also 4th in yards amongst the top 5, now he's 1st after going on a tear in his last 6 games (all since Gabbert got hurt), gaining 587 yards in that span. Gordon, Hilton, and Givens have more or less kept pace with their usual output. Rec. Average: 1) Josh Gordon 16.7 2) T.Y. Hilton 16.3 3) Chris Givens 16.1 4) Rod Streater 14.5 5) Justin Blackmon 13.6 Anyone under 30 catches I left out, for obvious reasons. No real surprise here. Gordon, Hilton, Givens are again — deep threats, and surprisingly effective ones at that. Great big play rooks. Streater cracks the top 5 here (35 catches), Blackmon is a possession guy so no surprise with him not being near the top. However, compared to Kendall Wright he's Randy Moss — Wright sits at 9.5 yards a catch, and only has 4 more receptions than Blackmon so it's not misleading. BONUS: Longest receptions for WRs go as follows: Blackmon 81 yds (TD), Gordon 71 yds (TD), Hilton 61 yds (TD), Givens 65 yds, Streater 64 yds (TD.) Strange is how the top 3 receptions for the rookies are exactly 10 yards apart. DOUBLE BONUS: Leaders in 20+ yd receptions: Hilton 12, Gordon 12, Givens 9, Blackmon 8, Streater 5. SUPER DUPER TRIPLE BONUS!?: Leaders in 40+ yd receptions: Givens 5, Hilton 4, Gordon 3, Blackmon 2, Streater 2. Streater had to fuck up the straight on the river. Yards per game: (aka the production stat) 1) T.Y. Hilton 53.6 2) Justin Blackmon 52.4 3) Josh Gordon 51.1 4) Chris Givens 46.0 5) Kendall Wright 41.9 For being a 3rd option, Hilton's production is impressive, but then again, the Colts are a pass heavy offense. The other guys have consistently been the 2nd option for their squads (although Givens played a bigger role when Amendola was out for a bit.) Touchdowns: (aka, the other production stat) 1) T.Y. Hilton 6 2) Josh Gordon 5 3T) Justin Blackmon 4 3T) Mohamed Sanu 4 3T) Kendall Wright 4 Sanu cracks the top 5, and has 4 TDs in only 16 catches (all he does is catch touchdowns?) Nothing really much more to add to this, pretty self explanatory. First Downs: (aka the... uh... other, other production stat...) 1) Justin Blackmon 38 2T) Kendall Wright 37 2T) Josh Gordon 37 4) T.Y. Hilton 26 5) Chris Givens 23 The possession guys (Blackmon, Wright) are at the top predictably. Hilton and Givens are more exclusively deep threats so the gap is understandable. The most impressive here is Josh Gordon. Which brings me to an extension of the last stat... SUPER SECRET TOP CLASSIFIED RESTRICTED BONUS: First Down catch %: (aka, what percentage of catches go for 1st downs) 1) Josh Gordon 80.4% 2) Rod Streater 65.7% 3) Justin Blackmon 65.5% 4) Kendall Wright 59.7% 5) Michael... Floyd? 59.5% Josh Gordon converts a first down on 80.4% of his catches. That's very impressive. He's not just a chain mover, he's an elite chain mover. The possession guys are competent chain movers as expected, and hey look! Michael Floyd is in the NFL! (who knew!?) Givens and Hilton come in right after Floyd but not enough to crack the top 5 at 57.5%, and 56.5% respectively. ------------------------ OKAY... after digesting this rambling mess of a post in which I decided to write up at 6:30 AM in the morning, where do the rookies rank for you now? In this poll, I voted for Blackmon just to be a homer/dick, since he had no love when the thread started, and if a Jags player needs anything right now it's some TLC. But in terms of being objective and how I would really rank the rookie WRs... As of now, I got: 1) Josh Gordon 2) Justin Blackmon 3) T.Y. Hilton 4) Chris Givens 5) Kendall Wright I struggled between Blackmon and Hilton, but being Hilton has Andrew Luck throwing to him (even if he is a rookie), and Blackmon has/had the two-headed-monster-of-suck that is Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne, I gave him the nod. Plus I did a little points scale for how each guy finished in each category, I came up with: Gordon 28 pts, Blackmon 25 pts, Hilton 22 pts, Wright 16 pts, Givens 9 pts. But in spite of my points system I didn't feel right having Wright ahead of Givens, because Givens has done more with less opportunities so he got the nod over Wright. So yeah...
