  1. Texans could be this year'a chiefs. It all adds up. Good pass rush, game manager QB, offense runs through the back, cakewalk schedule... the targets are better and the QB is worse but it's a comparable situation. They could end the year with a PO berth on an inflated record.

These Thursday Night Games Have To Go

I hate when the Chargers have to do it so I wouldn't wish it on anyone else.
  3. I'd take Kyle Williams all day long. Big filthy, nasty man... I love it.

    Your All Underrated Team

QB- Ryan Tannehill, I don't think Tannehill gets enough credit for how much he's shown and done in one of the worst situations in the league. Protect him and he'll shine all the more. RB- Ryan Mathews, I think his early disappointment as a top pick still clings to him, but Mathews was a true work horse last year. He's become a poor man's Marshawn Lynch. TE- Zach Miller, Usage has taken this guy's name completely out of the conversation, but he's a do-it-all tight end who puts out some really impresses plays in every facet. WR- Golden Tate, Arguably made more out of his opportunities than any other play in the league last year. The offensive approach limited him, but when they targeted him, good things happened. WR- Kendall Wright, An underrated Tennessee Titan? Shocker... Wright is a consistent and dangerous player despite spotty QB play. In a big market, he'd get tons of coverage. OL- Geoff Schwartz, All Schwartz does it put forth really good play. I don't really understand why he keeps bouncing around the league. But I think the Giants have a good one. OL- Matt Slauson, Slauson left a bad offensive situation for Chicago and emerged as a really good player. I don't think the perception matches how solidly above average he was last year. OL- Demar Dotson, The Bucs knew what they had, which is why they locked him up to a team friendly deal. I still don't think most people realize how good this kid is at RT. OL- T.J. Lang, Sitton rightfully gets all the attention, but Lang is catching up quickly. His efforts in the running game are especially impressive. OL- Chris Myers, He might not be very good in O'Brien's offense, but Myers has been a consistently excellent center in Kubiak's offense for years. DL- Corey Liuget, Injuries limited his effectiveness in 2013, and thus kept the talk on him quiet, but Liuget will put himself squarely in the conversation with the top 34DE's this season. DL- Jurrell Casey, Casey is starting to get more attention, but it still is nowhere near being commensurate with his level of play. Consistently great in both phases. DL- Ahtyba Rubin, Rubin is one of the tougher run defenders in the game and has positional versatility. He doesn't put up a lot of nice numbers, but he's really important to that defense. Edge- Michael Bennett, Bennett is getting a lot more love lately, but he's been underrated for so long that I still had to add him to this list. Versatility, power, quickness... he's just so good. Edge- Lamarr Houston, Houston wasted away in Oakland for his first four seasons, and should have a chance to show his skills on a better team this season. Great run defender, sneaky effective off the edge. Edge- Junior Galette, Talented pass rusher who has been ascending for a while now. Certainly doesn't have the name recognition to go along with a 12 sack season. Off LOS- Chad Greenway, It's not that people don't know about Greenway, but I don't think most understand just how good he is. He should be mentioned right alongside the other elite 4-3 linebackers. Off LOS- Bobby Wagner, It's easy to get lost on the Seattle defense, and I think that has partially happened to Wagner. He's a big time impact player and should be mentioned in the top tier of the position. Off LOS- Jerrell Freeman, My sense is that Freeman is perceived as a high volume guy who just cleans up a lot of plays, but he makes a lot more impact than that from what I've seen. DB- Jason McCourty, McCourty doesn't catch a lot of interceptions, but he's got great coverage skills. This type of corner tend to go under the radar. DB- Keenan Lewis, Lewis is another example of a guy who people tend to know, but I think he's way better than they realize. DB- Harrison Smith, Out of sight, out of mind, but Smith really came on fast when he entered the league and has continued to improve. I think we're talking about a top 5 safety in time. DB- Reggie Nelson, The best safety who know one talks about. Nelson has had quite a good career go by right under people's noses. He's versatile and consistent.

    Patriots @ Vikings

I can't claim to have watched the Vikings much to this point, but I will say that a QB with the pocket presence of Matt Cassel can make the pressure look worse than it is.

These Thursday Night Games Have To Go

I would be on board with scrapping TNF.
  7. The Bills and Texans actually have somewhat similar rosters and situations. It really will come down to QB play. Fitz and Manuel will dictate how for their teams go.

    Eagles @ Colts

Yeah the Eagles as a team I have no issue with. They're impressive. But Foles' inaccuracy doesn't look great. We'll see how it develops.
  9. It's really just wishful thinking that made me vote the way I did. The story on the Bills has all along been that they have good pieces and just need Manuel not to blow it. So far, he isn't. For the Chargers sake, I hope he does on Sunday.

    Eagles @ Colts

Ok. I guess we will wait and see. As a 3rd party observer with no rooting interest, I'll say that I think Foles looks bad/inaccurate.
  11. KempBolt

    Seahawks @ Chargers

I know about a ton of Charger players who played before I was born. And it's not like Matt Hasselbeck is an obscure player. Also, Russell Okung?
  12. The Bills and it starts in week three.

    Eagles @ Colts

So Eagles fans-- are you concerned about how Foles has looked? Because I have to say I am not impressed really at all. He's had the stick throw here and there, but otherwise I've seen a lot of inaccurate balls and big plays on blown coverages or YAC.

So he's calling the plays? Or just dictating the game script?

Worst team as of now is...

Yeah, I like Dotson, the rookie pass catchers, and Michael Johnson. What about Lovie's coaching has bugged you?

    Top 10 CB

Peterson looked better against us than Sherman did. Haden has struggled, but Pettine's defense is exceptionally complex and demanding. I'll have to defer to his elite play to this point in his career while he adjusts to a new defense.

I don't see the difference between the windows to win throughout a game, and the window that presents itself at the end. If a QB leaps through 7 windows by playing well in minutes 1-55 to give his team a chance, but not that last one, I think it's crazy to say nothing he did matters up to that point. All the points count. I guess if a guy always fails late you can say he doesn't have the nerves to come through, but I certainly don't think that's the case with Wilson. Or most good QB's.

    TGP Pick'Em Week 2

I picked OAK because I think JAC will be better once Bortles takes over. But with that line, I understand playing Henne.

Worst team as of now is...

I'd say it's between the Jags and the Raiders. I know the Bucs have looked bad, but I simply don't believe that that roster is actually as bad as they look.

    Seahawks @ Chargers

I am one who disagrees with that premise. If an offensive line or receiving corps craps the bed for 55 minutes, but somehow the team stays in the game and the QB doesn't get it done on one last drive, I don't think it's all on him and you just write off everything that happened up to that point. Or vice versa with a QB playing terrible right up until the last drive behind great protection, and then the line lapses at the end. What you do throughout the game matters. The best QB's in this league are still hit and miss when it comes to making that last key drive to win it. The rest of the offense should share the blame if they've played poorly enough to put the team in that position. Again, using Chargers week one as an example-- Rivers stood in a messy pocket and delivered catchable balls all night. Receivers dropped passes, or defenders got their hands on balls at the LOS and we didn't do nearly as much damage as we should have with the way Phil was playing. He still had a chance to drive and seal it at the end, and he didn't get it done. A lot of fans wanted to pin the whole thing on him, and frankly that pissed me off. The whole offense put him in a position to have to drive in obvious passing situations against a good defense in a hostile environment. If they had done their job, Rivers would have already done more than enough to win. I'm not going to say their shortcomings don't matter just because we had that late possession in a close game.

Ok so I have a lot of respect for the Seahawks fans on here, and many others that I've met. But a friend of mine was at the game yesterday, and polled 20 of the "twelves" that were tailgating in SD. He asked them two questions: -Who was your starting QB who took you to the Super Bowl in 2005? -What is the name of your starting left tackle? 20/20 didn't know the answer to either question. Safe to say the fan base has been adding some noobs en masse recently.

I think there's a difference between playing a solid defense, and getting no protection. Rivers ripped up a great defense because our line gave him the chance to do so. On a lot of plays, I didn't think Wilson had much of a chance. And he still had a decent game. I'd compare it to Rivers in week one. He had interior pressure in his face all game and his receivers kept dropping balls. So when he didn't pull out a game winning drive, the Charger fan tantrum brigade started throwing him under the bus for not being clutch. Next week, he has a pocket and dudes catch passes and suddenly he's hall of fame bound.

In defense of Wilson, our coverage is much tighter this year and he was running for his life much of the time. I was surprised that they didn't give Lynch the ball more, but then again we possessed the ball for 42 minutes. Hard to give anybody enough work when you hardly ever have the ball.

Some thoughts: Rivers and Gates were absolutely nails in this game. We really need to get our run game going for sustained success. Seattle's run D is sort of like a tree stump surrounded by a bunch of yoked up squirrels. Mebane is an immovable object, forcing you to go sideways, but the rest of the front seven is too fast for them. I was impressed with the pressure we got on Wilson. Okung isn't right yet, and Britt isn't good at this point. Our special teams looks like it could actually be a positive this season. I thought that we received an extra down on Gates' first TD, but I was wrong. The TV graphic just showed 2nd and goal after our holding penalty, and it was actually still 1st. Was glad that the refs gave us such a bad time, because there's no loopholes here for why we really shouldn't have won. I would like to warmly thank Bobby Wagner for stoking the fire in Rivers' belly, and Bruce Irvin for being very unintelligent.

Ryan Mathews' early diagnosis is sprained MCL

I'm not happy he's injured, but I have to say it's a little bit of dark humor that Ryan Mathews got injured while trying to recover his own fumble.
