  1. Chargers placed WR Dan DePalma, WR Mike Willie, and FB Chris Gronkowski on I/R. I'm not sure how serious their injuries are but to me this looks 100% like a stash move to keep all three until next season when we will have more space to keep them.

  2. I can't even express how much stupid hand wringing there was among Charger fans over cutting Tolzien out of camp a couple years ago. You'd have sworn we let go of Andrew Luck. It was amazing in how idiotic it was. Looks like he's really taking the league by storm.

They will be doing the same if and when we cut Dan DePalma, who many think is the next Wes Welker lol

  3. Just my thoughts;

-Can't see us cutting Whitehurst and having no real experience behind Rivers. I like Sorensen but I think we'll carry 3 QB's.

-Brown looks like the guy they want in during 3rd and long bc of pass pro. Baker hasn't been near good enough to take his roster spot IMO.

-Haven't like Schilling or Troutman much at all. Could see them getting replaced with other teams' roster cuts.

-I doubt we carry 7 DL because of needs elsewhere. And Jerideau simply hasn't been roster worthy to me. Moore and McFarland have outplayed him.

-Bird has been the starter in Te'o's absence and plays well on ST. Have a hard time seeing him getting cut for Jerrell Harris.

    My Stab:

    QB: Rivers, Whitehurst, Sorensen (3)

RB: Mathews, Woodhead, Brown, Whittaker (4)

    FB: McClain (1)

    TE: Gates, Phillips, Green (3)

WR: Floyd, Brown, Allen, Royal, Ajirotutu, Meachem (6)

    OT: Dunlap, Fluker, Starks (3)

G: Rinehart, Clary, Roster Cut (3)

    C: Hardwick, Molk (2)

DE: Liuget, Reyes, Scafe, Wynn or Roster Cut (4)

    NT: Thomas, Geathers (2)

ILB: Butler, Te'o, Bird, Smith, Gachkar (5)

OLB: Freeney, Johnson, English, Keiser, Williams (5)

CB: Cox, Wright, Patrick, Marshall (4)

S: Weddle, Gilchrist, Taylor, Stuckey (4)

    ST: Novak, Scifres, Windt (3)

That leaves one spot which I think will go to Jahleel Addae unless a good corner is a roster casualty like Byron Maxwell. In which case I'd prefer the corner.

Our lists are pretty close. I mixed up Harris with DJ Smith who I rate over Bird. Bird can switch with Jerideau....but I have just never been a fan of his. I figured they would carry Whitehurst and Brown but I wouldn't as I'd prefer to give Sorensen, Baker, and Whittaker their chance. It's really a wash between Baker and Brown for me. Whittaker has earned his spot IMO. I'd also rather carry Mike Willie or DePalma over Ajirotutu even though Rivers has a history with him. I've been impressed with Willie since last year so that's kind of why I picked him over those guys. I don't think we will cut Sorensen either but Whitehurst offers nothing more then a clipboard if you ask me but thats why we have McCoy, Wisenhunt, and Reich working with Rivers.

  4. :Chargers:

    QB: Rivers, Sorensen

    HB: Mathews, Woodhead, Whittaker, Baker

    FB: McClain

WR: Floyd, Allen, Brown, Royal, Meachem, Willie

    TE: Gates, Green, Phillips

    T: Dunlap, Fluker, Starks

    G: Rinehart, Clary, Schilling, Troutmann

    C: Hardwick, Molk

    DE: Luiget, Reyes, Wynn, Scafe

    DT: Thomas, Geathers, Jerideau

    ILB: Butler, Te'o, Gachkar, Harris

OLB: Freeney, Johnson, English, Williams, Keiser

    SS: Gilchrist, Taylor, Cattouse

    FS: Weddle, Stuckey

    CB: Cox, Wright, Patrick, Marshall

K: Novak, P: Scifres, LS: Windt. Rookie punter Kent has actually been better than Scifres statistically in preseason.

  5. Offensive line was still shocking against the Bears, won't be convinced until Rivers has a pocket to throw in and teams think twice before blitzing him on third downs. Give him time and I guarantee he will do just fine if not great and we will win games. Saying the o-line will be improved doesn't really mean much to me when they were terrible last year.

  6. Buy, but I do think he's quite good, so if the foot doesn't bug him, he should be fine.

Buy or Sell: Both Robert Griffin III and Colin Kaepernick struggle as defenses figure out how to shut down their run game.

Sell, I'm not sold on defenses figuring out either of them. I actually think RG3 would be fine even if they do figure out how to stop his run game because they have been focusing on him running less and throwing more! I expect his pocket passing to be even better this year. Kaepernick, I could see struggling if he can't run. But then again, Harbaugh worked his magic with Alex Smith, why can't he do the same with Kaepernick?

Buy or Sell: Brandon Weeden outperforming Philip Rivers this year.

  7. Sigh. This again. Cam Newton is NOT a rushing QB. He is a QB who can run. There is a huge difference.

    OT: Buy.

Buy or Sell: Carolina gets a ROY (either OROY or DROY) for the 3rd straight year.

Sell, Star was overlooked and I could easily see him break out but my favorite for DROY is Ziggy Ansah. I doubt a 4th round guard or Kenjon Barner do enough to get OROY.

B/S: The Jaguars winning 5+ games.

  8. Uhhh... sell. He didn't even hit 18 last year as the most sacked (per attempt) QB in the NFL. Now the protection has modestly improved, the running game looks viable, and he's going to be attempting more high% stuff. How would it go up?

B/S- Mike Vick is responsible for 18+ turnovers (INT/Fumble).

Sell, chances are he either lights it up or gets injured or replaced before he hits that mark. I could see it amounting to 18+ if he plays a full season.

Buy or sell: Cam Newton scoring 10+ rushing TDs and 10+ passing TDs

  9. The OL was bad last night- there's no getting around it. But three things:

    1) The sack, fumble came against Max Starks who has looked behind in the LT competition all camp long. It's some small consollation to know that the guy who got beat does not figure to be the starter.

    2) Rivers' pick was a good throw. Tim Jennings basically took Keenan Allen's legs out from under him while the ball was still in the air. The pass went right to where Allen should have been if he hadn't been impeded. I don't see how that wasn't blatant PI. The announcers said it was because he was "going for the ball" which really amounted to cutting Allen by diving in the direction of the ball way before the ball was actually due to arrive.

    3) The run blocking continued to look much improved. Mathews has room to get solid chunk yardage, and Fluker's makign his presence felt in that regard.

Again, I'm not trying to say that the OL wasn't bad because it was. Clary and Fluker both got beat, and they both figure to start. But the worst of the sacks came against a backup and the interception should have been a penalty IMO.

Jennings made a break for the ball and beat Allen to the spot. Could argue that Conte didn't make the catch but I don't think it was PI on Jennings.

  10. Tonight, to some credit of the Bears defense, looked a lot like last year. Sacks,INT, and fumbles with shoddy o-line play. Fumble would be harsh to blame Rivers for but the INT was bad. The only silver lining is that Mathews and the run game looked good. Really dread passing downs nowadays cause I always expect something wrong to happen. Preseason or not our passing game tonight should've looked quite alarming to us Charger fans.

  11. My god, I used to always get on Norv for never running the ball but if I had LeSean McCoy and ended up 32nd in carries I would be PISSED. That's absolutely shocking. Reid has been successful over the years but I've always felt that the best coaches adapt and play to their teams strengths. KC has talent in the passing game no doubt and Charles is a good weapon whether running or receiving out of the back field but you are right, I don't see Smith excelling in a pass heavy offense. The Chiefs are set up, in my eyes, to be a more run focused offense with big plays coming from play action.

  12. Smith has been reliable when his team runs the ball early, often, and effectively. When he's asked to throw more than hand off, his numbers take a nose dive. Doesn't jive AT ALL with an Andy Reid offense and I kind of feel like I'm taking crazy pills because everyone seems to think it's a good marriage.

I see your point and the Chiefs should have a effective running game with Charles but I think a lot of Eagles fans I know were annoyed that McCoy didn't see the ball enough last season. Wouldn't be surprised if that carries over to KC.

  13. Alright that's it... Bill Barnwell just wrote the 67,340,204th article about how the Chiefs are a sneaky sleeper pick with Alex F@#$@#g Smith at QB. I am going to go buy a top hat, throw up in it, and make Bill wear it. All season.

Yeah we will see how much of Smith's success was on his own and not because of Harbaugh's doing. I actually think he will be Schaub-like in KC. Good but nothing to write home about. They have enough talent on offense to help him out.
