David Diehl announces retirement

New York Giants offensive lineman David Diehl announced his retirement Friday.

Diehl, 33, spent his entire 11-year career with the Giants after being selected in the fifth round of the 2003 draft.

"I've accomplished everything I could possibly dream of as a football player," Diehl said. "If in 2003, anyone would have said that Dave Diehl, a fifth-round draft pick out of Illinois, would win two Super Bowls, play in the Pro Bowl and win every single Giant award possible, people would have said you're crazy. I have a lot to be proud of."

Diehl was known for his versatility and toughness in a career that saw him miss just 12 games. He started at right tackle and right guard this season and played every position along the line except center in his tenure with the team.

The Giants' offensive line is expected to receive a major overhaul after a terrible 2013. The team ranked 29th in rushing at 83.3 yards per game and gave up 40 sacks, twice as many as in 2012.
