Notre Dame receiver Michael Floyd was arrested on the South Bend, Ind., campus Sunday morning on a misdemeanor drunken-driving charge, three days before the start of spring practice.

St. Joseph County Sheriff's Sgt. William Redman says Floyd was booked into the county jail in South Bend about 4 a.m. Sunday.

Redman says Floyd was released several hours later on $500 bond. Floyd is scheduled to appear in court May 2.

The legal trouble is Floyd's second in 15 months after a citation for underage drinking in Minneapolis in January 2010.

In that incident, Floyd was allegedly fleeing the scene of a fight with Gophers defensive back Shady Salamon, who was also charged with underage drinking. Both were passengers in a car driven by Casey Marylee Radcliffe, 20, who was charged with DUI, obstructing police and underage drinking.

A police report said Floyd had blood on his shirt and hands and had been involved in the fight at a party.

  2. There is continued speculation that the Oakland Raiders may be looking to select a quarterback in this year’s draft. Despite repeated praise from owner Al Davis and head coach Hue Jackson, Jason Campbell continues to be somewhat on the hot seat in the media’s eyes. Why? Perhaps it’s just a leftover unsettled feeling from the Tom Cable era. Regardless, Jake Locker has somehow popped up on the Raiders media radar. Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News believes it’s plausible for the team to trade up for a first-round pick in this year’s draft in order to take a quarterback, in this case, it could be University of Washington standout.

    Interesting.

  3. Sell, I really have no confidence in Clausen and I think the Panthers will find someone who will do a better job whether it's through the draft or someone already on their roster.

    B/S- Panthers take a QB #1 overall?

  4. For the most part, all the talks surrounding the labor negotiations have been a hodgepodge of he said this and he said that. It’s been pretty impossible to try and figure out who is telling the truth, how much of it each person is telling and to pick a side as the owners and players have been locked in a stalemate. After listening to this interview with San Diego Chargers linebacker Kevin Burnett, I don’t know that I have a better idea of who to believe most, but I do know that I’ve finally heard a player actually say something that’s entertaining and a strong opinion. Burnett says NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is full of it, that he is a liar and that he doesn’t have the best interest of the players in mind. He also calls the commish out for being too much on the side of the owners where former commissioner Paul Tagliabue had the players’ backs.

  5. Titans DE Jason Babin plans to begin mixed martial arts training in California, and if things go well he said he could enter MMA competitions. He’s also scheduled a bear-hunting trip to Alaska next month according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. “They would probably frown on that, but right now I am free and clear to do as I please,’’ said Babin, who was selected to the Pro Bowl for the first time last season. “I could play in the Canadian Football League if I wanted to.†Oh yeah, that’s the other thing. Babin is entertaining thoughts of jumping to the CFL or the United Football League if those leagues can build some momentum during the lockout. Both leagues have extended “feelers†to him and other free agents, Babin said. “I know those leagues would love to grow their awareness and if they got a certain amount of high-profile guys to join in, the money would go from the NFL pool to the CFL or UFL pool and maybe they could negotiate a TV deal,†Babin said. “Now that would scare the (stuffing) out of the NFL owners if they could pull something like that off, you know?"

  6. While some, like Packers RB Ryan Grant, have taken exception to Peterson’s statement – Grant makes the point that there is, you know, still ACTUAL slavery in the world – Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall sees Peterson’s point. Writes Mendenhall on his Twitter page (this transcript, by the way, is presented unedited and strung together over about 10 different updates): “@AdrianPeterson Anyone with knowledege of the slave trade and the NFL could say that these two parallel eachother. If you look back and disect what I said, I ddnt say that the NFL was slavery, I said that they parallel eachother. Look up the word parallel. This means that they're not the same thing, but they run the same course. These paths will never cross, but they mirror eachother. I could break down how, but that would take an amount of ideology and big words that a lot of you wouldn't understand. “Learn to LISTEN before you pass judgement. Because speaking without knowledge of subject is truly ignorant. Outside of the dollar amounts you see on tv, you don't know what's going on with the innerworkings of this buisness. I don't know what goes on at your job. But how dumb would I sound if I read about it in the newspaper and tried to tell you what's going on? Its bigger than what you people on the outside see on sundays, see on ESPN, read about in the paper. Just like any job, any business anywhere. Really think about that.†Since Peterson is traveling to Africa, his agent, Ben Dogra, was left cleaning up some of the mess. "I think anybody that knows Adrian knows that Adrian is a very strong-willed and passionate individual," Dogra told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "The game means an awful lot to him. People should not just take his statements per se word by word. It's a difficult time. He would love to play. I'm sure that everybody would love to see football continue in the NFL and I'm sure at some point it will get resolved. But Adrian, that's what makes him great. He's soft-spoken but if he has something on his mind he'll speak it. But I think nobody should really look at those words and take them out of context."
