  1.

By that logic, why not embrace the empire business and have football seven days per week? At what point what does the quality of the football factor into the conversation?

7 days a week is ridiculous and would screw up the scheduling.

I think 3 days a week is perfect, any more would be overdoing it.

  2. lol and this surprises you? He's been doing this in Chicago for so many years.

    1. Lovie was out of football for a year and claimed he had studied the game and learned some stuff. Like I said, I knew he was pretty conservative in Chicago, but I thought he was going to change it up a bit.

    2. I didn't think someone who went to the Superbowl could possibly be this conservative.

  3. So he's calling the plays? Or just dictating the game script?

Well, Jeff Tedford is our OC, but he hasn't been calling the plays yet this year because he's been in the hospital with a heart problem. Our QB coach has been calling the plays apparently, but these types conservative play calls have Lovie's fingerprints all over them. And the fact that he's said he doesn't regret it makes me thing that too.

  4. What the fuck?

Yep, this is the type of crap I've been dealing with the past 2 years (looks like now 3). I knew Lovie was a defensive coach and a bit conservative, but I didn't think it was Schiano level bad. This is just another typical Sunday as a Bucs fan though. :sigh:

  5. Yeah, I like Dotson, the rookie pass catchers, and Michael Johnson. What about Lovie's coaching has bugged you?

Not too high on Michael Johnson. He was invisible out there the entire pre-season and then got hurt in the first game. Really hoping he can step it up because we need it.

Lovie has been incredibly conservative, just like Schiano was. He doesn't play to win. For example, two times yesterday we were in the red zone, and he ran it 3 straight times to settle for a Field Goal (including a 3rd and 7). Heard him on the radio today saying he didn't regret it which pissed me off even more. Another example yesterday was right before the half, the Rams had a 4th down with about 1:30 left. Instead of calling a timeout (we had all 3 left), Lovie let the clock run down all the way and we sat on the ball instead of trying to get more points (we were DOWN by 3 points at this time too). Lovies reasoning when asked about this "we didn't want more points, only bad things could happen by going for that". This is the exactly the crap Schiano did and is why I wanted him fired so bad. I can't stand the conservative crap and the play to not lose attitude.

  6. Bucs are terrible. Gerald Mccoy, Lavonte David, Vincent Jackson and Logan Mankins are the only proven players we have. The rest of the team is either unproven or trash.

Alterraun Verner is unproven or trash… okay then. The 4 you listed, plus Verner are the only really good players we have, but that doesn't mean the rest of the team is trash. Complete overreaction.

I'd say it's between the Jags and the Raiders. I know the Bucs have looked bad, but I simply don't believe that that roster is actually as bad as they look.

The Bucs roster is much more talented than the Jags and Raiders. When Lovie Smith is coaching like Greg Schiano and Josh McCown is your QB though, you aren't going to be winning many games.

  7. Yea, both of our DE's have been nonexistent all preseason and the first game when it came to rushing the passer. It's about time Johnson steps it the fuck up because I'm losing my patience with that guy. I haven't seen a single thing impressive thing from that guy, not even in the pre-season.

I'm really excited to see William Gholston as the starter for the rest of the year anyways. I think he has big upside and could be a great replacement for Clayborn.

  8. Saints and Bucs.

The Saints are a top 3 team in the NFL, IMO, and will be able to slow down Atlanta's offense a little bit due to their good pass rush, and the Falcons crappy o-line. Saints will take it in a shootout.

Bucs/Panthers will be a defensive showdown, but with Cam hurt, I really can't see the Panthers doing much of anything. The Bucs will take it in a very low scoring game.

  9. I think it's a good deal for both teams. I like Wright a lot and think he will be very good for the Patriots (will be their new Hernandez), but we are pretty deep at TE and just drafted ASJ to be our future TE. Our guard situation is beyond a disaster (O'Neil freaking Cousins is starting) and Mankins is a proven and very good guard. I was against signing Incognito yesterday, but after making this move I really hope we do. He would solidify the line and we would have at least an average player at each position on the line.

  10. Best case- The o-line gels together and plays decent/good, McCown plays decent/good and our defense plays as expected. Finish around 11-5.

Realistic- O-line is extremely inconsistent which leads to McCown/Glennon being no more than mediocre, but we're still a decent team because of our defense and good coaching. Finish around 7-9.

Worst case- O-line continues to play awful like it did last week and McCown/Glennon both don't play well. Finish around 4-12.

I really think the season comes down to how the o-line plays. If they play well, I think McCown/Glennon will do at least an adequate job under Center which should be good enough because I am very confident in our defense (I think it will definitely be top 10, possibly top 5).

  11. Sucks to hear as I was really excited to see Sims on the field this year, but if we had to have a big injury, RB was a good position to have it at. I am very confident in the trio of Martin, Rainey and James. I think one of them can emerge into a good receiving threat and fulfill Sims' role while he's gone.

  12. I remember seeing him constantly talking shit after the play was over when he was on the Ravens and since he's been an Eagle, I've heard him say some pretty dumb stuff (since I'm surrounded by Eagles coverage). Dude sounds like a complete jackass.

  13. Sorry buddy, I give the slight edge to Jordy at this point. He's not quite the downfield playmaker that Jackson is, but he's close. And otherwise I think he's the more complete player.

But in any case, an extra 12M guaranteed is a bit more significant than just an extra mil per season. That's not to say that Jackson's contract is really bad, but I think Jordy's is a great value by comparison.

I think Jackson is a pretty complete player. I mean the guy had 78 catches and 1,200 yards + last year with Josh Freeman and Mike Glennon throwing him the ball.

You do bring up a good point with the guaranteed money though. Didn't realize how little the Packers gave Jordy.
