The Nick Mangold Era has come to an end

God how I wish the Colts had a 10 year stud on the o-line like Mangold.

Jags finally trade for Branden Albert

Colts finally addressing their o-line as well. I see the entire AFC South as trending up. As Razor said...might be decent.

Extremely well said. I have gained major respect for you. I haven't been here long enough to really know the poster you are referring to, I am merely respecting you for your thoughts on the interaction...and that of selfishness in general.

Definition of welfare (Merriam/Webster) 1 2a : aid in the form of money or necessities for those in needb : an agency or program through which such aid is distributed I see the description 2:a,b... as being used commonly to describe this countries current system. Yet I also see rich companies getting tax breaks and tax free land usage in the name of their corporations, as being a type of welfare as well. It does not apply to 2:a, but it is a massive redistribution of wealth. This is just my view, but when someone tells me, I am tired of welfare....I ask which kind they are referring to. i am personally tired of being taxed my whole life, to fund both.

Take this personal experience for what it is worth. I was running my own contracting business in the 90's when the heath care debate was raging. I usually never mix politics and work, nor religion for that matter, but there was one time I broke my own rule. I was remodeling for a doctor. He was a well established, successful surgeon. Near the end the kitchen remodel they had hired me to do, I considered this opportunity to speak with a man in the health business at that time, to be too valuable to pass up. So, I asked him what he thought of all of it. He began softly and lightly, pointing out various aspects of both sides of the debate, being quite thoughtful to the entire process. But as he continued on, his focus and actual likes and dislikes began to form. By the end of his answer, he was inspired, opinionated, and to paraphrase, quite disgusted with any changes to the health care system. He final statement was, "....besides...how are you going to feel when you have to pay for other people's health care?". I said, "I don't know....I currently can't afford health care". His facial expression changed, and was silent, and he left the room. Never spoke to me again. His wife payed me the final check. So, my point in sharing this was not a debate about socialized health care, nor private, or any such thing. It is merely to say that one's perspective is the ultimate filter. It unfortunately affects all of our opinions. Each person's existence, or universe, has a range of awareness. An extremely selfish person for instance, sees all opinions on how decisions affect them and them only. As you begin to broaden your universe, your caring begins to include other family members and close friends. Some include others like themselves, or even begin to care about their city, or state, or even country. Yet.....in my world, it is those who care about all things, both present, and in the future... that I revere. It goes beyond enlightenment or humanity, or civilization...it is simply extending YOUR veil of influence by your actions and decisions, to all things, both present and in the future. I try to live this way, but even at 57, I catch my own selfish acts daily. So as to my opinion about Presidents and their worth or value, it begins with how they act in all things, and make decisions that are not just for themselves, their party, their friends...and especially......their special interests. There's something happening here What it is ain't exactly clear There's a man with a gun over there Telling me I got to beware I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down There's battle lines being drawn Nobody's right if everybody's wrong Young people speaking their minds Getting so much resistance from behind It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down What a field-day for the heat A thousand people in the street Singing songs and carrying signs Mostly say, hooray for our side It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down

I like the Bradshaw argument. Surely he is top 5 with all those rings?

    Tom The Great

No one changes anyone else's mind about powerfully charged subjects...sports, politics, religion, etc. If you love Brady, hate him, or just respect him, your opinion will not change except by your own accord. All one does here is sharpen their own slant, by grinding their opinionated knife on the whetstone of other's opinions. So here is mine....sharpen away. I do not judge QB's by their rings. The QB position is the most important in the game of football, but it's importance does not lend to directly connecting championships with greatness. Brady was a big factor in the number of championships that the Patriots have won in the last 20 years. To say that they would have been accomplished with another QB is absurd....to say that he was the main reason why they were accomplished...is equally absurd. I judge a QB by many things. Accuracy, intelligence, toughness, strategy, athleticism, speed, strength, knowledge, preparation, and on and on. In a previous post, I alluded to Brady's short to mid field accuracy. I also highly respect his preparation, knowledge, mental toughness, strategy, and football intelligence. But he lacks some aspects of the position that remove him from being the best.....although it is folly, IMO, to actually choose one that is the best, because in every scenario, we are comparing apples to oranges. But if I had to consider one QB, it would not be a commonly chosen QB. It would be based on all those things, and many more. When I think of all things, my choice is Warren Moon. He did all things possible out of the QB position. He had top accuracy over the middle, short range, and could throw a deadly accurate 35 yard frozen rope. He could tuck it in and get tough yards. He did it with different coaches, different coordinators, different teams, and even in different leagues. But, as I said, it IS folly to choose the best, so therefore, Moon is not the best.

Quality of Life Changes for the NFL

I personally find the newer "hey look at me" type celebration to be a bad step in the direction of the NBA. The NFL is king BECAUSE it is a team sport, not an individual sport. Cameras are trying to get any action that they can to boost ratings, but are those ratings boosted from long time/hard core NFL fans...or the casual...I have to entertained with something new every three seconds fan? The NFL can do whatever the hell it wants, but just as I no longer watch NBA games, if the NFL allows it to become about individuals over the team. I'll do something else. So I vote to keep doing the only thing they can to stop that crap, foul it or fine it. One thing I really dislike is game changing plays that are blown dead by accident. I think that when a play involves a significant advantage for one team, and was blown dead by accident, that under review, the team who is lessened by the lost play should get an extra time out. I am also quite sick of seeing players head early to retirement, and players lives or at least the quality of their lives lessened by brain damage. Some of it is part of the game, some of it is players not giving a fuck as to the damage that they bring on purpose. Since I have been watching for over 4 decades, I have seen quite a few players careers shortened by unneeded spearing hits. John Lynch laid one on Dallas Clark that he will likely pay quite dearly for in the very near future. First spearing/launching/helmet to helmet - fine and warning, second offense - fine and suspension, third offense, dismissal from league. I still like good hits, and that is not what I am talking about. Marijuana as a pain reliever should absolutely be removed from the banned substances list in the NFL. It is far and above, easier on one's body to alleviate pain than opiates. It is each players responsibility to adhere to the state laws it is in. The NFL should not be policing this. For the record, I do not partake.

    My guitar thread

1989 made in Japan 62 Reissue Fender Stratocaster. All damage of over 25 years of my abuse was sanded, matte clear coated, and I did a complete refret with a 10 degree radius on the fretboard. Installed Paul Gagon Bladebuckers and added all black accoutrements to match the pickups. Sanded the pickguard to match the matte finish. The amp is an AC15C with a Blue Alnico. I prefer a black Brain pick...1.0mm, play sometimes with my fingers, and I lean towards blues and power funk.

Super Bowl LI - Falcons vs Pats

Since this seems to have morphed into what "is and isn't"...regarding the Patriots...I'll chime in. As a long time Colt fan, I have seen the Patriots so many times against my team, even out of division,...it is dizzying. I should like to give credit to the order of importance in my opinion, as to the aspects or qualities of their team that makes them so successful. I choose to leave out specific cheating comments, but I in no way excuse them, nor minimize their effects on their last almost 2 decades of play. BB's player development/Scheme fit - I hate his attitude, his poorly shrouded smugness, and his hatred for the league, which is his nemesis. That said, his is simply the best today...and is in the conversation for best ever...at finding players to fit what he designs, and developing them for performance. Yes, I know he is head coach, but his coaches do things to his design, and he is unquestionably good at it. Brady's accuracy in the short game - If I alluded to my dislike of the above coach with restraint in the above paragraph, I shall alleviate it completely from this player...save one caveat. There are not adequate words, time available, and allotted character space to properly share my vitriol, and none of it has to do with his winning. That said, he is one of the most accurate passers in the short game in the history of the NFL. His long ball, considering how much stupidly extended time he is allowed in the pocket, is simply not of note. He hits players in stride...attacks the middle of the field on crossing routes, with the same artistic prowess that Ichiro Suzuki and Dave Concepcion attacked at the plate. I could extend the list, but the proof in the pudding has already been stated. It is not one of these things, it is the rare marriage of these two together. Take Brady away from them, and they still won a lot of games. Anyone who thinks that Brady going to another franchise would net the same results, I would give them a kind, yet hearty chuckle. BB's prowess as an evaluator is solid, but his development/player to scheme fit is unrivaled in today's game. But what makes his genius achieve star status, is having a deadly accurate QB over the middle who is a major student of the game. It is the pairing of these two skill sets that drives the current Patriot machine. As a Colt fan, I have been lucky enough to have experienced a SB victory recently, so I am very satisfied, and look forward to the next one. But the ending of this pairing in the Pats franchise, is near. I will quaff a large goblet of Merlot when that happens, and sing as many fight songs as I can think of with fervent alacrity....and likely wake the next morning with a well deserved and welcomed hang over.

He definitely brought swagger to the ST unit...which was pretty poor for years (with the exception of Adam). He was a huge weapon for field position. Hard to replace, but we'll be fine.
