  1. Sorry Vin, I don't fully understanding what you are saying. It seemed to me you are saying that because I don't care about the other ones in the vote that the computer someway read my mind and won't let me vote. LOL and I know that is impossible. What I THINK you mean was that because I didn't vote for any of the other three parts that the system won't let me vote for any of them.... Back to my question ...what I was asking was WHY it won't let me just vote for one? Is it just the way that all the polls are set up? Or is there an option to change these in the future to where you can choose to vote in some parts of the poll but not in all parts of it? (in other words I see FOUR specifically different questions instead of just ONE---so should be four different answers---I know not other people's problem and I am not trying to split hairs but that is just how my mind perceived it initially no matter how it was meant ).

    2014 MLB Season Thread

I know there is still a ton of season left but I am wondering if all those 'experts' who said that Gattis was basically going to be a one year wonder and that the braves were sorely going to miss McCann at catcher have noticed what he is doing this season. Gattis 48 games, 168 ab, 22 runs, 7 2b, 1 3b, 13 homers (most of all catchers), 31 rbi (2nd most), 11 walks, 41 k's, .280 avg, .330 obp, 565 slg, and 895 ops McCann 58g, 204 ab, 22 runs, 7 2b, 0 3b, 7 hr, 28 rbi's, 13 walks, 29 k's, 225 avg, 282 obp, 363 slg, 645 ops At this point I'd go on to say that imho the only catchers performing clearly better overall all stats offensively would be Jonathan Lucroy and Devon Mesorosco (although like Gattis he hasn't had as many at-bats to qualify offensively for things like avg, obp and ops--- you need 3.1 plate appearances per team game). So the Braves saved money and Gattis has stepped up. With that said the Braves offense still stinks for the most part and I am shocked that McCann isn't having a better year than he has in Yankee stadium. I never thought he'd regress this much but just felt like he wasn't worth all the money he was offered by the yanks (for the braves to sign him that is) when I felt Gattis having consistent playing time at one position would benefit him.

UPDATE Sean Weatherspoon out for season

And so it has started. Season ending injuries just plain out stink.

Well I know that the Braves are still in first place but the truth is they just aren't hitting the ball very well at all and I don't expect them to make the playoffs at this point. Uggla needs to just be gone (I don't care if they get anything for him or not at this point). B.J. needs to sit on the bench and be VERY SITUATIONAL. The dude isn't hitting against lefties or righties and his OBP is horrendous. I'd at least try to give Jordan Schafer some regular at-bats to see what he can do (his playing time has been ultra sporadic). Chris Johnson hasn't hit a fraction of what he did last season and has forgotten how to walk. La Stella has really hit well but needs to move up in the line-up. Don't get me wrong I like several things about Fredi Gonzalez but he stinks at making a line-up. At least Justin Upton, Freddie Freeman, Evan Gattis (9 game hit streak) and Jason Heyward (11 game hit streak just ended today) have been good. The emergency corps pitching has been decent...I can't complain too much but tbh they over performed at the start of the season and are paying for it now. If the Braves finish at .500 I will be surprised.

Falcons' Mike Nolan comments on defensive rookies

Yeah I had read this article too and my first impression was that they thought Southward was 'coachable' compared to DeCoud.

State of the Franchise: Atlanta Falcons

Norwood just absolutely couldn't stay healthy. I have HOPE for all the rookies that the Falcons drafted. However I am going to be patient and try not to be overly enthusiastic since so many have failed to produce in the past.

    My Cancer Surgery

I will keep you in my prayers. My own father survived skin cancer (even if he didn't survive policystic kidney disease).
  10. Why want it just let you vote ONE of the four matchups? I like both Van Zant and Gilmour but could care less about even voting for any of the other groups. I'd prefer Van Zant but it would be close.

I have to be honest I love fangraphs. I am a baseball stat junkie in so many ways and have been since the late 70's. I do wonder however since I didn't see a chart of how that figure was derived how EXACTLY that figure was determined and if it includes just games at catcher or also includes input from other positions (since many of those players have played more than one position in the last 2 years).

    2014 MLB Season Thread

I didn't get to watch the game so admittedly I missed the point that it was Floyd that was charged with 5 runs (although 2 were unearned I am guessing from CJ's error?). I do know that the Braves bats were held silent after BJ's homer in the 2nd and that Wood gave up 2 earned runs in the 7th to collect the loss (he did better as a starter but I understand why they moved him to the bullpen for now). Thanks for pointing out my mistake lol. In any event I think in 8 days the Braves have blown two leads of at least 4 runs (the other I can think of was against the Red Sox). Those types of leads shouldn't slip away but a handful of times all year normally. Hopefully those are two of the very few times it will happen to the Braves this season. I have a big feeling that every win will be important in trying to get into the playoffs this year.

CRUD! The Braves bullpen is supposed to be one of it's strengths but geez they have now lost a couple of games in which they had big leads. Those games may come back to haunt them before it is over with! Oh and I read that there is a good chance Polanco gets called up on Friday for the Pirates.

Singleton will probably strike out a ton but walk a bunch too (if he performs like he did in the minors). He has good power but little speed. He may not hit for high average for the next couple of years but is projected to eventually be a .285 + hitter. The Astros are beginning to make use of all that deep talent they have in the minors. They could be very tough in a couple of years.

Draft picks in baseball don't have the same value as they do in football. From my understanding the only picks that can even be traded are the ones the MLB bestows for competitive balance. These are only even tradeable during the season and not the offseason. The pick in question although it is the 39th overall pick in the draft from my understanding would had been the third pick in the draft for the Marlins. The Marlins have a legitimate shot at the playoffs this year but in many opinions their bullpen is the weakest part of the team. As bad as i totally despise their owner I have to agree that while not the best possible option of a reliever out there, at least they are trying to address their biggest shortcomings. As far as the Braves, it seems that the addition of Tommy LaStella has lengthened the line-up and that is a good thing.

TBH I have gotten to the point where I think that the Marlins could very well be a contender all the way to the end. Young pitching and young hitting could be gelling. Of course one more major injury to that team and they might be toast (for example Stanton).

Yeah you really kicked my butt last week. You had an awesome week statwise and I just had the wrong match up. I checked the stats and there would had been 4 teams I could had beaten if matched up against them ...one I would had came out with 9 wins myself. LOL oh well...we all have good weeks and bad weeks. If someway I can pull out of this disaster and finish in the final four I will be satisfied after starting off as horribly as I have to begin the season.
  19. So my question to you is what temperature is your thermostat set on? Here at the house it is generally set at 72 in the summer for the A/C and 68 in the winter for the heater. My mom keeps her's set at 76 in the summer and 70 in the winter.
  20. The kids have been outside any chance they have had this week (first week of summer vacation for them). Often they are playing baseball in the middle of the day and haven't complained about the heat at all. They have also picked blueberries, blackberries and wild plums as well as riding their bikes and fishing. When I was young we'd play outside all day long in the summer. Never really gave it a thought as being hot and certainly didn't let it stop us from anything we were wanting to do.
  21. I have lived in Southern Georgia, Northern Georgia (and there is a huge difference), NW Kentucky and Pennsylvania. After around late April in South Georgia it seldom gets below 60 degrees even at night. That will continue until around early October. MIGHT get first freeze here somewhere as early as late October to late November. During the summer it many times is still 75-low 80's even at night. You get accustomed to it. North Georgia (Athens/Atlanta and on up) will generally see MUCH cooler temps at night even if it is almost as high in the day time. I recall several times where it was 80 something during the day and low 30's at night (and seemed with more wind too). Not sure if the elevation made as much difference with that either....But many places down here aren't very high above sea level (our small plane airport for the county is on a hill and it is only 255ft above sea level. It snows (and sticks) roughly only 1 time every TEN years here compared to it seemed at least 3 or 4 times each year when I lived in NGA. I also remember well when I went swimming in a pool in Pennsylvania. I had asked if the water was warm before I got in and was told yeah it had been warm for a couple weeks. I got in and felt like I was freezing. I promptly got out and was told it was just over 60 degrees. LOL I was used to pools being around 80 degrees in July in SGA. HUGE difference. I will admit when I was younger I could handle snow (I even remember being outside in shorts with temps in the high 30's and beginning to sunbathe to catch a tan when the temp was just over 50). But since I have lived back in SGA for the past 20+ years and my health has taken a turn for the worse the last few years I can't even breathe well in cold weather.
  22. Actually to me it doesn't get hot until around 90 degrees. I love anything from 65-85. I can't handle anything cold anymore because of my health. Absolutely intolerable for me if it is below 45.

No disrespect meant Blue ---but I HATE trying to transition over to yahoo after I have played approximately 10 espn leagues a year for the last few years. I haven't even played CBS or MLB ones in at least 3 or 4 years. LOL I struggle everytime I go to my yahoo team page to figure out who is pitching that day, who hits well against who, splits, who has hit or pitched well in the last 7 or 15 days and even how to drop a player or add one (espn I can add up to one minute before the first game that day and it appears roster changes on yahoo never take effect until the next day). Maybe I am just to set in my ways and don't want to change lol. I do know that probably millions successfully use yahoo fantasy and enjoy it so I know the problem is MINE. I will still stick around and last out the season (my team is getting clobbered this week lol) but in all seriousness this league isn't fun to me at all this season compared to what I am used to . I MIGHT check my team once or twice a week when I generally check my espn teams at least twice a day (partly cause with the exception of one they are all large leagues with many players and tons of transactions). I hope by the end of the season MAYBE I will be more comfortable with yahoo, but right now I'd almost rather go to the dentist.

Revenge of the Sith was just plain out hard for me to watch. Not because it was bad but I had spent YEARS connecting with the characters in the Star Wars universe and we all knew Anakin was slipping down the slope to the darkside and there was nothing we could do to stop him from that journey. Also although it was far from perfect it was devastating to see the Republic fall because of lies and half-truths. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cp069Y_P-9M (that isn't the speech by Palpatine but Padme's words in anguished response to Bail Organa) For the movies to end on such a depressing note (although they had to since the end was the middle) was just hard for this long time star wars fan.

    Nostalgia Time!

My favorite non-animated one was: although it had been out several years my parents took me to the theater to see it sometime before I was 5 years old (I know that because my dad was still stationed at Ft. Knox). The banshee terrified me. My favorite animated one was the first movie I recall seeing at a theater (although I was probably no more than 2 or so when my parents took me): followed by with a close second by:
