  1. Sorry for coming in so late, but I just wanted to add my two cents.

First off, what he said is crazy shit. You have every right to file with the police. How he could escalate a small joke to that level is beyond belief.

Second, and I know some of you will think I am dumb for saying this, it really is sad how bombarded women are today with staying as skinny as possible. I am in no way excusing the actions that were taken, but it is sad that a small joke like SoCal made can offend someone to this level, and I think it does have some to do with the media and the beauty industry.

  2. The B1G is such a mess this year. Illinois and Wisconsin have both been losing to horrible teams, but have both beaten good teams like Indiana, Michigan, and Minnesota. I am really hoping that my Illini are back for real right now. I expect the Big Ten to do well come tourney time. IU, UMich, Minny, MSU, OSU should all go far. Illini and Wisky are so unpredictable that they could lose right away or could make a huge run. Think about it though: one conference has 5 teams poised to go far and could have up to 7.

  3. you work in a nice state, federal minimum wage is $7.25/hour, but states are free to impose a higher minimum (and 18 states have) but most states haven't (in fact, four states have minimum wages lower then the federal number, but the federal law controls there)

you do bring up an interesting point though in terms of summer employment, and I wouldn't be surprised if that becomes another exception since those workers are primarily people looking for spending money, very few people are entirely relying on summer employment, though I do know people who entirely work seasonal jobs, which would be more difficult

I was referring to Obama's $9/hour proposal. However, you are right about my state. We are at $8.25/hour right now.

I don't really agree with the concept of the government deciding which businesses abide by the wage law depending on how the employees use their money. The government really isn't here to decide who is using money for spending money and who is using it to live. I would rather see an age difference. Most teenage jobs are relatively easy and therefore I think we could make an exception for those jobs.

I do, however, favor the eventual elimination of the minimum wage, but that is another deal.

  4. Yeah but at the same point in time there's demanding work that might not be a challenge of skill or intellect but it's just hard.

I understand that, and I wasn't even trying to come in here to make an argument. I just want to share my personal story and show that while the minimum wage might need to be higher for people who are trying to earn a living, there are low-skilled, teenage jobs who need to abide by this and that is threatening to put those businesses out of business.

  5. I am a minimum wage worker in the summer, and I oppose the shit out of this. I am a lifeguard, which is obviously a very important duty if anyone needs help. At the same time, the amount of work that the job requires does not match $9/hour and the fact that the little private company that employs me has to pay all of these college kids to guard at $9/hour is absurd. I am afraid for my job.

  6. Losing your grandmother is a traumatic experience and by all accounts Lewis was very close to his. She just passed away last Friday and understandably he is taking it hard, but was playing through it. The National Media treats Duke with kid gloves and as if they have Halos, but what are they going to say about this?

If this was the NC State crowd chanting this to a Duke player it would be national news. We will see how the mainstream media and Dick Vitale addresses this. It doesn’t matte if it was one fan, 100 fans or 10000 fans. While they will spin it as a “Past your Bedtime” chant that did happened, they will ignore the chant previous to that about Lewis’ grandmother, which can be heard faintly in background.

A Duke fan in the stands confirmed and identifies the people who chanted about Lewis’ grandmother on a Duke Fan Site Blog.

Duke has denied the incident has occurred.

This is one of the most disgusting, obnoxious, and downright cruel things that I have seen sports fans do. They should be ashamed of themselves.

  7. We need a 5 Guys around here... Only been there once when I went to Chicago last summer and it was a mouthgasm.

But, Chicago is such a shithole! Why would you even go to that dump?

Major props and congrats to Duck Fallas! :beerchug: Go get 'em!
