Per Rotoworld: Well that experiment didn't last very long! I guess now that they've drafted Blaine Gabbert, it looks like Edwards is the odd man out. He'll definitely find a job somewhere. There are lots of teams that could use an upgrade to their depth at quarterback.

You know we all called it a reach for the Vikings to take Ponder @ #12 overall, but if that's the guy that the franchise is the most confident in to be their quarterback, who's to fault them for not risking the chance of him being drafted by another team after passing him up? Only time will tell if it was worth the risk, but now we have evidence that there were definitely other teams interested in taking him around that area. Who really cares if Kiper thinks he was a second round talent? It just matters if it works out. It's been well documented that Mike Martz has been a big fan of Enderle during this whole draft process. I don't think the Bears were interested in Ponder unless his draft stock took a severe hit and they could have drafted him outside of the first two rounds. (Which obviously wasn't going to happen)

Leonard Hankerson calls himself best wide receiver in draft
FartWaffles replied to BLUE's topic in NFC
Gotta love Hankerson's attitude. Now he's gotta put forth the time and effort to prove his opinion to others. -
WAY TOO LOW! There are only a few running backs I would rate ahead of Gore... Chris Johnson Maurice Jones-Drew Adrian Peterson Rashard Mendenhall So I think he's a Top 5 running back in the NFL. (You could make a solid argument for Jamaal Charles and/or Steven Jackson) I guess it really depends on players of other positions that are rated higher than him, but I feel like if I put in the time to compile my Top 100 players in the NFL that Gore would be much higher than #94 on my list.

Donte Whitner is the DeAngelo Hall of safeties. He's absolutely terrible in pass coverage, and yet for some reason he gets recognition from the media as being a good football player. If I recall correctly, Whitner is the only player last year that gave up more passing yards/touchdowns than anyone on Houston's fucking terrible secondary.

I totally agree. I'm sure Jack Del Rio isn't willing to risk what is potentially his "last shot" at making a playoff run starting a rookie quarterback, but my gut tells me we will see Gabbert on the field next season. I said it before that I think Gabbert was the best quarterback coming into this draft class, or at least the one that I would have drafted if I had my choice. It sucks that he's in the AFC South...

But is he worth more than $7 million just to be a stop-gap for Jake Locker? I'm honestly not sure... Per Rotoworld:

While I do think Ayers is better suited for rushing the passer in a 3-4, he can definitely drop back into coverage and be a solid SAM or WILL linebacker in a 4-3. Either way, Titans got themselves a playmaker.

Congrats to both RANGA and Bay! Very much deserved.

Nighthawks draft LB Mark Herzlich
FartWaffles replied to FartWaffles's topic in Miscellaneous Football Leagues
Totally agree with ya there Razor. Just for kicks, here is a list of other notable players who were drafted by the UFL... Source: 2011 UFL Draft Results Hartford Colonials - Jerrod Johnson: QB, Texas A&M (#1 overall) Omaha Nighthawks - Jeremiah Masoli: QB, Oregon/Mississippi (#38 overall) Las Vegas Locomotives - Mario Fannin: RB, Auburn (#46 overall) Virginia Destroyers - Jeff Maehl: WR, Oregon (#52 overall) -
Exactly. I find grading a draft pretty useless before the guys have even played one snap in the NFL. It usually takes about three years before you can prove who the real winners of that particular draft are.

BLUE and I were talking about this in the Shoutbox last night, and it is a very good question to ask. Before the draft Wade Phillips stated that Shaun Cody (who they did re-sign) and Earl Mitchell were the prime candidates to play the nose. After the selection of J.J. Watt, Phillips said that Watt will definitely see some time at the nose on obvious passing downs. There are also rumors that Antonio Smith could see time there as well... Also I strongly believe Okoye will not be on the team next season. This is one of the bigger mysteries that us Texans fans are just kind of left in the dark on, but since the Texans didn't draft a big-boy nose tackle last weekend it's a good guess that he is currently on our roster. What I do know is that Wade is going to have these guys jumping all over the place on the d-line, and he expects them all to be versatile enough to do so. He's also hinted at Mario playing rush linebacker at times. I guess only time will tell...

Helu will beat out the injury prone Ryan Torain, and barring injury will be a 1,000+ rusher this season.
-
If Avery gets cut by the Rams, I would absolutely love to see him come back to Houston. There's no guarantee that Jacoby Jones will be back with the Texans, so I hope the front office keeps an eye on this situation.

I subscribed to Fitzy years ago for these NFL Draft bits. They are classics. I like his "Pats Superfan" stuff as well, but I totally ignore his videos when he's talking about the Red Sox. He's a very funny dude.

Way-Too-Early Rookie of the Year Predictions?
FartWaffles replied to SteVo's topic in General NFL Talk
I'm going out on a limb here and throwing out some less than predictable names... OFFENSE: WR - Vincent Brown, Chargers -Brown will likely be the slot receiver in a very deadly Chargers passing attack lead by Philip Rivers. With weapons like Antonio Gates, Vincent Jackson and/or Malcom Floyd occupying defenses, Brown and his precise route-running skills could leave him open for plenty of opportunities at many receptions. DEFENSE: OLB - Aldon Smith, 49ers -Smith has so much upside that if he even shows a hint of it during his rookie season, he could have a shot at a double-digit sack season. While offenses prepare for Patrick Willis and Justin Smith, they could be in for a rude awakening with Aldon Smith's freakish athletic ability wreaking havoc in the backfield. -
Can you tally these all up Razor when you have the time? I seriously have no clue who has won...
-
So I guess I won either way!
-
Not too shabby! I ended up getting three of 'em right.

B+ I like all of the picks, but there are some things I would have done differently. Though obviously I'm not paid millions of dollars to make these decisions, so I guess I can't really say much...
-
I'm thinking the Cardinals will end up with Matt Hasselbeck or Marc Bulger. (Just a guess)
-
I'm pretty optimistic for the Barwin/Reed pass-rush combo, especially when they'll be getting help from Mario, Antonio, and now Watt as well. Very! I didn't really like seeing Texans part ways with their third and fifth round picks, but it's hard to be too mad when you know they're getting a feisty and quality corner in Brandon Harris.

Like I said in the Shoutbox earlier, if Bush could come back down to Earth and realize his true value he could restructure his contract to a fair, yet reasonable price so he wouldn't have to leave 'Nawlins. Since we all know that's not going to happen, when he's released and finds out that he's not being offered the mega-contract that he thinks he deserves Bush will go to the highest bidder which will probably be the Washington Redskins. (You know this has Dan Snyder written all over it!)
