My thoughts exactly. Wish we would've signed a certain LB before BAL did too.
-
First and foremost, I am not endorsing some hybrid role for Watt, he should stay on defense. But when the story broke my brain kept going to a young Julius Peppers lining up at WR or FB on goal to go situations for CAR back in the day. And it is a fun thing to think about, at least for me. So I propose to you, can, will and how effective do you think he could be, even if only used to give the opposition a headache in certain situations? For me, I don't think we will see him on offense this season. He is too prominent and valuable as a defender. The defense would definitely want to send him a message. But he is a freak of nature who has great hands, and is capable of contributing on offense. In a TE capacity do you think a LBer could muscle his way across Watts body? I do not. In a FB capacity do you think he could blast the line of scrimmage? I do. And in a WR capacity do you think he could line up, if not played closely catch a screen and give some DB nightmares? I do, and he would manipulate coverage out of fear the way Peppers did. Peppers didn't catch many jumpballs in the endzone. But he did force the defense to tip their hand on how to cover a 6'8" crazy person either by substitution or by sliding a LB far outside the box in goal to go situations, and he did blast the line like a beast a few times at FB. I could see Watt doing that and apparently, so does he. What do you guys think? He's got the freak factor going for him.

What happens if... (Regarding AP and HGH)
the Lions fan replied to Glanvilles Grits's topic in General NFL Talk
Just wanted to point out currently without often and long term (2x a day, for years, ideally immediately before puberty and then their entire careers) testing, it is impossible to test for HGH. Esspecially within the upper tiers of the mesomorph athlete community where escalated chemical and protein levels are commonplace. Hypothetically some sort of implant could be devised all would-be athletes are encouraged to get... before puberty. Or we could all acknowledge we live in an age where this testing is impossible and athletes are at the very least incentivised via fame and fortune to tip the scales. As for AP? Nah, never. Edit - forgot about round the clock surveilance by incorruptables. That is also an option. -
Officials warn players: Spinning the ball can result in a penalty
the Lions fan replied to BLUE's topic in General NFL Talk
That joke is based in truth. Refs should just grab the ball anyways and do their thing instead of throwing the flag IMO. But it does delay substitution protocol from time to time, usually disadvantageous for the offending team but it is a tiny factor. I still think the refs can and should just grab the ball and expediate the process as quickly as possible, if the ref is interfered with no one would argue with a penalty, or more. I think its hilarious to think of the meanings of the words penalty and celebration though. If this is the road they want to go down, do it right. You can set up a rule of guidelines based on intention, not doing the hulk. What's so bad about them? Delay of game? Profane gestures? Singling someone out? Group celebrating? That last one makes me laugh, but my point is they're handling it wrong, celebrations should be celebrated. Set a list of parameters and fine the players (it all goes to charity and is thus tax deductable FYI) upon review. Then set rules with in game implications based off of intent. -
That's impressive, damned impressive.

Al Davis deserves a mention in a career killing topic.

The 4th Dimension: How the Lions Could Have Won the Super Bowl
the Lions fan replied to Mentch's topic in General NFL Talk
The 4th dimension is time. You mean alternate dimension. Interesting what if scenario, as a Lions fan id have liked to see it based less on circumstance and more on angst, I remember that season and I didn't feel robbed, I actually was looking forward to next year for once. GB deserved that one. NO from '11 did not deserve that victory and IMHO would have made a more interesting what if scenario. Edit - as far as imaginary scenarios go wed most likely haved faced GB then NYG then NE. Throw Megatron and 50 points a game, those all look possible. Consider the momentum if they beat GB in Lambeau (think of it as a compliment Pack) and didn't get refrobbed by NO (as for saints fans, 2 TOs and 14 points is a hard thing to get taken from you by awful officiating). Of course peoples opinion of DET might make it seem entirely impossible but DET had momentum and got robbed. Interesting to imagine the what ifs of those teams covering Megatron and putting up 50 points... -
Watch the Saints Lions playoff game from a year back with the same lens. It happened.

Let's put this to bed. Give me Andrew Luck.
the Lions fan replied to Dutch's topic in General NFL Talk
I have to say it is uninformed to rain praise on Pagano and criticise Arians when talking about Luck or last years Colts. Chuck was 2-2 at the reigns, Bruce was 9-3 and Bruce had to play clean up. You can't measure the team playing their hearts out, but Paganos games were arguably both easier and more important. Was he deserving of the COTY award? That's a different subject. -

the Lions fan replied to Dutch's topic in General NFL Talk
Wilson played the most 'NFL style' of the offenses, and as his attempts show he was eased off the training wheels in a run heavy offense. Ill end with they're all TOP 10 potential and I wouldn't be shocked to see any of them get a ring. Ill take Wilson for what I like in a QB though. Would happily have any, but given the option, Wilson. -

He also led the league in dropped INTs by defenders and had 10 fumbles. He was also in the most 'wreckless' of the 3 offenses in question. We can come up with lots of facts to back ourselves up. Watch them play, I am most impressed by Wilsons behavior waiting for things to develop, he also plays in the most traditional of the 3 offenses in question and poise goes a long way there. But the media has incentive to sell the other 2 much aggressively. -
Different skillsets, yes. Harder? No. I'll take Peterson over Harris, unless of course I already have 2 Petersons.

OP ignores runs for 3rd down conversions (and everywhere else) and doesn't include YPA. Also doesn't mention the journeys each player took. RG3 was given the reins and a designer offense, same with Luck. Wilson beat out Flynn, kicked the training wheels off after 6 weeks, and still had that year. He went furthest in the playoffs and has the most poise. He was also a much scarier NCAA QB, he's been outdueling them for 3 years. It will continue. Go Wilson. The first QB that makes me feel like I'm watching some bizzaro universe football where Madden is real. -
In AZ Mendenhall and Williams are both reinjured. I like Taylor from what I've seen. He fits the offense better, looking best in pass protection, receiving and running between the tackles, Ellington will be c.o.p. back. AZ fans should be excited, he's a good fit in a vertical system and will surprise a lot of folks.
-
Because it happened in DET.
-
I also think he has a shot. I live in AZ and see lots of cards coverage. He didn't get a fair shake QB wise and impressed me when healthy. He has a big radius, Wilson will like.
-
Both former AZ TEs as well... usually a bad sign. Pope had serious potential at one point. Tall (I think 6'8") and athletic, decent hands and blocking pedigree, but never put it together come gametime.

NFL adopting 'fantasy-like' Pro Bowl format
the Lions fan replied to BLUE's topic in General NFL Talk
What if Von Miller has to hit Peyton Manning. The format should remain AFC vs NFC, then pick squads from a larger pool. -
I like Rivers, say what you will his shit talking seems to serve one purpose, getting under peoples skin. Its so transparent when it gets people, it gets them on that additional level. I think its hilarious.
-
I didn't consider the teams effect on your douchemometer. But I can see its tie breaking relevancy.
-
Hasn't happened since then. And you can't keep holding the Millen era or its logic against us. We don't have the worst owners in the league and our front office is no longer garbage. Maybe because we haven't cleared the Lambeau hurdle in the last 20 years. This is the first front office making those strides, I feel we are out of the basement, I can understand why you don't. If you don't. I don't know. My point is, if this group took a step backward last season, they started a few steps in the hole and every other one of them was forwards. GB is blessed with a football town essentially owning the team. No other team has that luxury, you just wait, the day is coming when some Mogul Corp buys up GB and gets into the jersey business at glorys expense. Mwahahaa...

Smells like a NE pick up to me.

Born in Ore. Gre up between CAL. (Bay area) and AZ... oh, BARRY SANDERS and my insane loyalty is why I've always been a Lions fan.

People forget Stafford was implanted into a freshly dismantled organization. I doubt bar an organizations first season no team had a greater turnaround in personnell/staff and in success from the end of one era to another. Stafford is a talent and in todays league would command a comparible deal on the open market. Better to keep that talent in DET. You should know better. McNabb is an envious commentator and contributes nothing with his writing and critique, can't wait for a less washed up QB to retire with nothing better to do and take his spot.

Why Russell at 26? Its opinion based so I'm not attempting a debate here to move him up. In my opinion he's been nothing but a class act since Wisconsin. For example he led the Badgers, Seahawks and NFL Rookies in community service hours. He's been as upstanding as any I've ever come across. Was he an ultra douche in high school? Id obviously have him lower so I'm curious about your douche criteria and its impact on the bottom players. Is 25+ kind of a douche free zone? And the others have held that title longer?
