Franchises with/without franchise QBs
the Lions fan replied to DonovanMcnabb for H.O.F's topic in General NFL Talk
Wares pretty good too. -
You don't normally wear a helmet when your head is perfectly safe. They know the risks, made their decisions and now must live with them. All this reaching out to the media about concussion related stories makes me realize what a class act Ali is.

What is one thing you can say to another teams fan base to really piss them off?
the Lions fan replied to NaTaS's topic in General NFL Talk
Hard to piss off a Lions fan. My favorite though is laughter. Like... Random person: oh yeah, who you root for? - the Lions. Random person: HAHAHAHAHA Is it really that funny? I get it a lot. -
Would you take a guard in the top 10?
the Lions fan replied to DonovanMcnabb for H.O.F's topic in NFL Draft
Yes. Yes I would. Absolutely. If he is the best available and another need isn't more pressing you'd be a terrible GM not to. That being said though, let's say for arguments sake you have picks 7 and 39. And you want to address pass rush and interior OL in first 2 rounds. The odds say the guard is more likely to be available at 39 than a pass rusher/whatever and you usually get more bang for your buck with the top 10 pass rusher and 2nd round interior OL than vice versa. So the odds are not in his favor. -
Franchises with/without franchise QBs
the Lions fan replied to DonovanMcnabb for H.O.F's topic in General NFL Talk
I just want to throw something out there I probably won't retort. By some peoples standards, including mine, Romo is not a franchise QB. Ignore the recent stretch, had it ended differently I might give it to him. But the poor guy is a day late and a buck short, 0 clutch, he seems to lack leadership qualities and the ability to put his team on his shoulders. All of wich I would put highly on my list for a franchise QB. The dreaded Sanchize has more playoff victories and a higher from behind wins avg. (Comebacks/games total) something to think about. My only qualm with BWares list. But your a cowboys fan. You've watched more Romo than I have and he is coming off another fruitless yet impressive string of games. Scope out Staffords past 2 seasons vs. His as well, and add a hesitant 'debatable' to big D. -
Report: crown-of-the-helmet rule passed by wide margin
the Lions fan replied to NaTaS's topic in General NFL Talk
Can't wait for the first trip and fall 15 yard penalty negating a first down in crunchtime. -
Good. Take it a step further IMO. Emphasize safety in a common sensical way. Turnover advantage for teams that protect the passer.

NFL may prevent runners from lowering their heads...
the Lions fan replied to ATL_Predator's topic in General NFL Talk
Fine, lower your center of gravity. I read his quote. My disdain stands. Its a poorly thought out rule. Most tackles on mid-long outside runs being questionable penalties sounds like a tool for fixing games. The committee has proven to be loyal to owners and money, not love for the running game. Safety first, then football. That's the apparent $ recipe. I am curious though, what sort of things has Fisher done on the rules committee to make you think they'll behave otherwise? -

NFL may prevent runners from lowering their heads...
the Lions fan replied to ATL_Predator's topic in General NFL Talk
You tell me how to lower your shoulder without lowering your head and I'm on board. This rule wasn't well thought out and is hopefully a launch point for discussion on a rule than a new rule. -
Love the Bucs fans responses to this. Does it define him as a person or stand as a true statement of his character? No Did he taint his induction celebrations to hardcore NFL fans? Yes There was no need for any of it. It seemed to come from pride and we all know the classy thing would have looked nothing like that.

Harvin to WSH... just a hunch. They can aquire, need and afford him. I hope he goes to DET though a tremendous slot talent a short field home run threat for us AND a legit gunslinger plus more single coverage against worse backs than anywhere else he ends up for him. Mayhew said he'd get aggressive and I can see a Harvin/2nd rounder for a 1st/5th kind of a thing playing in our favor... maybe the Vikes even get trigger happy if someone slides into the late 30s pick-wise.

I just want to add my appreciation for Tweeners. We aren't there yet but the answer to the fast paced offense running rampant in the NFL today is a fully multiple defense. If everyone can play at least a position ~next to theirs... you can play personnel and scheme within the confines. Ya dig?

And to confirm I did mean Peyton. And confidence typo was not a slur... just a phone related typo. But it will all be about next year. I feel with a year of film on each guy Wilson will distance himself from the pack. How do you defend a guy who smashed our perception of seconds until scramble and throw? He's like a video game QB. Escapes the pocket and kills 4.5 seconds allowing everybody to get open. Unheard of... his QBR should be bottom 10 once you're around that 3 second mark. To put it into consideration he holds the ball about 30% longer than Roethlisberger... He scrambles, buys time and looks comfortable doing it. I realize Griffin had a remarkable season and most years should have won the trophy. But this year was about popularity. Imagine this... Wilson is 4" taller clocking in at 6'3" nobody gives a crap about Lucks heralded 172 efficiency rating and learns Wilson had a 192 (best ever... tmk) Wilson goes #1 has the same season and this discussion never happens. He wins the award with ease.

the Lions fan replied to DonovanMcnabb for H.O.F's topic in NFL Draft
I wouldn't count it out. If he is the best player available id be a poor GM not to consider it. But as its been mentioned the tradeoff of guard value in later rounds to that of the other needs most top 10 picking teams usually forces the top guard picks to 20 or so. When a ~top 10 talent team feels the long standing best player available probably won't be there at ~50 and could use some immediate help up front. That being said in my mock a certain team bows out of the top 10, does some hustling and picks up Warmack around 15 and some mid picks in a mid rich draft. -
Has to be Wilson, hands down. From watching as much of these guys as humanly possible I believe Wilson is the best leader, decision maker and elevates the level of play of his teammates more than the other gifted young QBs. RG3 has the most impressive physical tools and a good mind for the position. But he has his buts, I don't need to point them out. He had a great season but is #3 on my list. Hope he gets healthy. Luck gets my #2 for doing more with less. Say what you will but if you stack up the Colts with the other teams its hard pressed not to rank them 3rd in most categories. Wilson wins for being the Offensive rookie of the year. Flashy play gets more attention is what I tell myself, not slighting RG3s stats, just watched nearly every game and week by week and Wilson seemed way ahead, even early on. Usurping (in some eyes) the spot and then playing a very conservative playbook for 6 weeks and still tying Peytons rookie TD record, but with considerably less INTs and considerably more on the line. And he was unshakable, consistent to the point of inspiring coonfidence all around him. He is a special player and IMO most likely to be here to stay. If you're into weird stats look up his seconds til throw, seconds until he runs, seconds after scramble and distance from scrimmage per pass... very interesting. Oh and he's got a great arm, can make every throw look easy, handles pressure like a diamond and he can run... remember that block where he ran PAST Lynch in full stride? In my world for a QB that trumps a big run.

I haven't watched it in years... on principle. As it currently is, I couldn't care less if they decided to get rid of it. As a fan though I feel it can be improved vastly and I have given it severe thought. Here are a few ways... Blitzing... 20 sacks gets you into the probowl to show off your elite cover skills? And you wonder where the effort went Allow gameplanning and give the units a practice week or two to at least find some rhythem or figure out what they should and could do with all this firepower. Well learn more of the coaches as well. Injuries happen, what better time to end a season? Fan voting needs to go. Sure let them have their popularity poll, give the coaches more power to add and subtract(substitute) for the best possible teams. Move it back after the superbowl. Let's imagine Ray wins another ring and then let's imagine him in Hawaii with all his peers. You can see the kind of thing they're robbing us from as football fans in the current system. Tiny ratings bump trumps fandom every time. Incentivize the damn thing. You want effort? Dangle a carrot. Someone already said it so I won't drum on. But even for the coinflip in the superbowl the following season will conjure up some effort. I disagree with home superbowls though. Also bring back awards and skills competitions. You might get some more effort out of these guys if you just threw out a wider net. Money, respect, accolades, competition and even the coinflip in the superbowl will get more effort than a little money... I lost track of time... ill be back to ramble more.

Which new Head Coach will have the most success in their 1st year?
the Lions fan replied to Dutch's topic in General NFL Talk
Also... can we stop pretending Reid is some defense whisperer? Reid without r.i.p. Johnson is not impressive on that side of the ball. I do wish KC the best... just tired of everyone still having that correlation about Reid. What you'll see in KC will be more production from the west coasties and an overall less predictable approach to the game. Oh and the players won't have lost before the game started, they'll believe in making a name for themselves. They might even get inspired. But a top defense attributed to Reid? Nah -

Gotta like the Arians hire in AZ. Looking at the available coaches after black Monday I couldn't help but think at least 4 of those teams shot themselves in the foot. While they may not win the most games out of the newly coached teams. I feel they won this round of coaching carousel. My gut tells me Chi, to answer question more directly. -
Aqib Talib traded to the Patriots
the Lions fan replied to CampinWithaMissingPerson's topic in General NFL Talk
Another great decision by the bucs recently. Love watching them so far this season. They look very capable so far, and are young, looks like a good time to be a Bucs fan. I predict this will work out well for both teams and hopefully even Talib. -
Does JJ Watt have a shot at MVP?
the Lions fan replied to AllYouNeedIsLovie's topic in General NFL Talk
Originally I really wanted to vote no simply because he plays defense. But he does have a chance, the operative word here being chance. As fans, more importantly as purists, we love defense. And it makes us pull for the Watts and Tillmans out there appearing to us to be the legitimate most valuable players. But there's still half a season to go and plenty of opportunities are out there. Second half playoff runs tend to usher in more offensive candidates as well... Feels to me like Peyton will win it again though, I've been having deja vu about that all season.
