  1. :Seahawks:

    Strengths:

    1. Run game. Beast Mode + ZBS... enough said.

    2. Defense. Unit has led the league in points allowed three years straight. There's a slight question mark with this group heading into the season due to ET's recovering shoulder injury, Kam's holdout (and its affect on the locker room), and losing Byron Maxwell. If the LOB takes a slight step back though, I can see it being negated by the DL taking a step forward with the addition of Frank Clark (who looked outstanding last night) and a couple of younger players coming back who've been marred by injury (Jordan Hill, Cassius Marsh, and possibly Jesse "The Monstar" Williams).

    3. Play action. Homerism aside, I find it hard to foresee any team surpassing Seattle in big/explosive plays this year. Hawks led the league last year with 110, and the addition of Jimmy Graham's size to go with Luke Willson's speed... well, let's just say good luck to those defense facing our double TE sets.

    Weaknesses:

    1. Offensive line. Losing Unger (Saints) at center hurts, as does a road-grader at guard like Big Carp (Jets). The (big) holes in the line will be patched by unheralded, undrafted and late-round young guns, who may or may not be transitioning from the the other side of the ball. While Seattle called a pretty vanilla game plan for last night's game, a sieve would've bought more time for the QBs. Wilson's health and scramble ability will be as important as ever this year.

    2. RB depth. Robert Turbin is average with rare moments of brilliance when spelling The Beast, but it remains to be seen if he could carry the load should the need arise. Former 2nd round pick Christine Michael has all the physical talent in the world, but his mental game leaves everything to be desired. Undrafted rookie Thomas Rawls threatens to replace him on the depth chart.

    3. QB depth. Tavaris Jackson going down with a sprained ankle last night against the Broncos is unnerving. He's solid to get us through a couple games if needed, and from what I've read the sprain isn't serious and will only take a few weeks to heal. Our lack of depth at this position is more concerning considering the #1 weakness, which is the OL, particularly pass protection.

  2. Bad timing on Chancellors part. For 1 he's hurt and needs surgery and 2 I think Seattle has a hell of a back up plan in Dion Bailey. Kam is a great player, but I don't think he'll get paid by Seattle. He should go get his surgery and come back healthy.

Unless you're his doctor, I'd like to see what evidence you have for this, considering he's recently stated that he's healthy and feels better than any preseason prior.

  3. :Seahawks:

    1. Wilson to Graham, all day errry day.

    2. The return game with Tyler Lockett. We weren't the same after we let Tate walk.

    3. The young bucks on the DL: Frank Clark, Cassius Marsh, Jordan Hill. Clark for his freak athleticism and how he transitions into the NFL. Marsh for his motor, and how he'll come back from a lost season. Hill, to see if he can pick up after he left off when he got hurt... 5.5 sacks down the stretch last year.

    The rest of the league:

    1. If 49ers can rally under Tomsula, or if they will revert back to a dumpster fire of entertainment for another decade.

    2. The outcome of the Bradford/Foles trade. Can Bradford stay healthy and finally show his 1st overall potential? Can Foles thrive in a new system and prove he isn't a one hit wonder?

    3. How Dan Quinn does in Atlanta.

  4. It's not about what he is or isn't capable of. It's about the Big Sky Conference having a boatload of shitty defenses and because of that, his stats may lead to people expecting him to be great when he very easily could be mediocre at best.

Did you not watching him throw 7 TDs and 400+ against UW and almost win the game despite EWU starting the game down 21-0? Did you not watch him account for 500+ yards and 6 TDs in a win against OSU the year before?

He will do very well at UO, and I wish him success. But fuck Whoregon and their $$$ and $hady recruiting tactics. They used his HS coach to let him know they wanted him.

  5. More so than him being in actual peril or discomfort ? Absolutely. He had a well planned and thought out opening statement... I think part of it is that a lot of you think he is just incredibly stupid. He's weird... He's different. But he isn't stupid. He's building an image for himself. A rebel that gets 'picked on' by the big bad NFL...

    Branding at its finest.

It's neither. I don't think he has anxiety about it, and I don't think he's trying to draw attention to himself, despite that being the end result. He just doesn't give a flying f*ck what others think of him, and will bow to no man. He's got issue with the NFL forcing him to give interviews he doesn't want to give, and he's made it pretty clear, in Thursday's session even, that the media asking loaded questions in attempts to get a story they want to write or portray him in a way he doesn't want to be portrayed, pisses him off. That's all media around the NFL (and in general) does; try to find and exacerbate controversy and drama. I don't blame him for giving those "reporters" and the NFL a big middle finger.

And it most certainly isn't an act. He's like that all the time, at least from all interviews I've seen him give, and accounts from other players.

  6. Every day that he goes back to that podium, it seems like his act is less and less "anxiety" and more "attention whore"... Seems more like just a different guy who thinks and acts differently than what we perceive to be 'normal'. Nothing wrong with that, of course.

He's an attention whore? What? That's what you got out of today's interview? Interesting. Lol.

Seriously though, if you pay attention to his words and actions, it's pretty clear he doesn't give a damn about attention. He is who he is and won't acquiesce to anyone. The only attention he seeks is for his teammates and his charity/Oakland.

  7. I know both Sherman and Thomas will play, but at what percentage they can play will be huge. If Sherman's left arm is strong enough to jam his man on the line and handle contact when going up to contest catches, I really like Seattle's chances. There's nothing wrong with Thomas' legs and range, so as long as he can avoid destroying his shoulder and leaving the game early, he should be fine.

    The way I see it:

Seattle gets no turnovers: Patriots win by 7-10.

Seattle gets one turnover: Coin flip.

Seattle gets two turnovers: Seattle wins by one score.

Seattle gets three or more turnovers: See XLVIII.

  8. These two have really never been hurt. Been two of the healthiest reliable guys in the league since entering. I bet Bill runs some plays at him in the earlier goings of the game. That would be wise. Just like screens and short Gronk routes of whatnot. See if either one of them show ineffectiveness. That would be a good tactic to go with. Earl's seems a little more concerning. Hands are resilient and can heal up quick. Shoulder tweaks can keep you from doing all kinds of things.

Sherm's injury isn't his hand... he hyper extended his elbow. His elbow was across Lacy's body while trying to get him out of bounds, and Kam came in with a lowered shoulder and essentially smashed right into the back of Sherm's elbow. Made me cringe when I watched the replay.

  9. Hell of a game by the Pack today. I had given up pretty much all hope on that 4th pick. I gave us maybe a 10% chance after the Wilson TD, because I didn't think we'd get the onsides. What a game. GB's OL impressed me, but not as much as their D. They were relentless and gave Seattle all they could handle.

  10.

You're smoking something, but it definitely isn't going to be the Hawks.

    :Seahawks: 34

    :Packers: 20

Upon hearing there's going to be a lot of rain and wind, with potential gusts up to 60mph, I'm going to adjust my prediction.

    :Seahawks: 27

    :Packers: 10

The wind and Rogers' limited mobility are a huge dagger. Seattle's run defense >>>>>>>>>>>> Green Bay's run defense.

  11. I see national people saying the Panthers have a shot, sure. I see Tony Dungy making the comment, (which I think is silly, given the presence of a team that has already beaten Seattle at home) that the Panthers are the only team that is equipped to beat Seattle at home, but Dungy has had a love affair with the Panthers for three years. I think he likes Cam.

I have not seen a single national pundit or expert actually pick Carolina to win the game. We are 11 point underdogs.

That's okay and I'm not saying we shouldn't be large underdogs, (though I'd kinda be shocked if we lost by more than 11 points, given the nature of these two squads, unless it came on a late TD), but it does seem like most people just assume it will be Dallas @ Seattle or Green Bay @ Seattle. I just hope they use it as motivation.

You've got nothing at all to lose, no one expects you to win, very few expect a close game. Just go out, play loose, play your best and let the cards fall where they may.

    They already fell.

    27-10 Seattle.

It's worth noting that Seattle has the 5th most available cap space in the NFL this offseason. Even with expected extensions, they'll have plenty to make a move.

I don't understand how this is possible. Sure, Percy's off the books, but, Wilson will be going from what, 800k to 20M? Plus, we have to get a deal for Wagner since there's not way we let him hit free agency. Not sure what the cap space looks like with Wright and Avril's deals also.

  13. When your team holds an NFL opponent to under 20 points, nobody single-handedly wins a game.

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to get in line to praise this dude until I see something other than every day quarterback play with running ability, with very occasional flashes of greatness.

Best roster. Some of the best special teams, as noted above by AllYouNeedisLovie, one of the best coaching staffs, the best straight ahead running back in the league, the best defense in the league.

    This is getting really old.

Just because a black belt in karate or similar master in whatever martial arts you prefer typically isn't going to need to use that skillset to defend himself, doesn't mean that in those rare situations where it's required, he/she isn't going to kick that attacker's ass. Flame the analogy all you want, make excuses that because Wilson isn't required to carry the team all the time because his defense doesn't suck that he by default isn't an elite QB, but nearly every time he's been faced with a situation where he's needed to carry the team to a win, he has. See the OT Chicago game in 2012, the division playoff game in 2012 against the Falcons where the defense was sieve, or similarly the Buccaneers game in Seattle last year, Russell Wilson has proven time and time again he can put the team on his back, arm and legs and put the team in position to win. He did it at NC State, he did it at Wisconsin, and he continues to do it in the NFL. You can think he isn't elite all you want, but his career body of work pretty clearly displays that he is.

  14. NFC West - :Cardinals: Why not? I'm not a believer that Seattle is going to perform well this coming season. There are a lot of young guys who just got paid, couple that in with the dreaded "Super Bowl Hang Over" and I smell trouble. San Francisco should be just as good as they were last year. I wanted to go out on a limb here though and take the Cardinals. While Palmer wasn't anything special, he was a huge upgrade at QB to what they had in previous years. If Andre Ellington is as good with a full work load as he was with a shared load, the league is in trouble. He's got the home run ability of Jamaal Charles. Skeptical that he can stay healthy with such a small frame though. The Cardinals defense is just as good as SF and Seattle I believe, I think everyone will be turned believers at the mid-way point. Even with miscues between Palmer and their receivers last season, they still managed to hang in there with the 49ers and the Seahawks. Larry Fitzgerald, hang on, you're going to get back to the playoffs.

Don't have a problem with you not picking SEA (or SF for that matter), but your reasoning sucks. If you think that Pete is running a ship that lets its crew get fat and sassy, or that those young guys that got paid don't have a huge chip on their shoulders still, then you haven't been paying attention. Kam Chancellor got paid before last season, and he went out and destroyed fools. Sherman's perceived slight from where he was drafted drives his chip and his mouth... that ain't going anywhere. Earl Thomas constantly talks about being the greatest to play the game, and he's dead serious. And Pete's philosophy of Always Compete has been driven into the core of the team. They scratch and fight to win every rep, every practice, every game. If a player gets fat and sassy, you get shown the door; Michael Bowie is the most recent example. He showed up to camp out of shape. He might've started half the season as a rookie at RT, but he didn't buy in and got left by the wayside.

All that to say, if Seattle doesn't win the division, it isn't going to be due to fat and sassy players only giving 70%.

    4. :Seahawks: Richard Sherman - Amazing corner and is a bonafide pic magnet. In some eyes, it may be hard to justify having him this low. However though, I consider the circumstances that Sherman is in. He only plays on one side and doesn't follow the #1 receiver like the best guys do. That shouldn't take away from his game but being in that one area, he doesn't even have to prepare for a lot of different types of routes he'll be facing in that cover 3 scheme. Also, the Seahawks pass rush was elite AND Sherman has an all pro safety who's the best in the league over top of him. Sherman's numbers are great but I can't put him over guys who are on lesser teams and having more difficult jobs and still play at an elite level.

With most defenses, their secondary is helped out by the pass rush forcing an early throw. In Seattle's case though, it's the other way around. More often than not, the QB's holding onto the ball longer than normal because he has nowhere to throw to, giving the pass rush more time to get there. While Bennett and Avril are good players, our pass rush is not elite. Our secondary is.

Houston's a borderline playoff team, but they're going to give it to Seattle this weekend in Houston. I expect a mass entrance to this thread to give the Seahawks fans some real shit, folks. Talk that smack right on back!

    lolBware.

I should have been right. Nobody but Matt Schaub would have thrown that ball. Fucking moron.

It's crazy how bad;y Russell Wilson can play and the Seahawks can still pull it off.

You're clueless if you think RW played terrible against the Texans. The OL, missing the three best players at the 3 most important positions (LT, C, RT), was dogshit against the Texans and JJ Watt. Any other QB would have lost that game by 20+ with that non-existent protection, especially without RW's savvy scrambling ability.

  17. Great game. Wilson missed on 2 sure TD passes and that was the difference. In a game like this where scores are going to be traded like body blows, you have to hit on those. Earl Thomas had such a great game. Shame we had to lose.

The stat line between Luck and Wilson was virtually identical passing wise. Was a great matchup and sadly one team had to lose. I'd like to say that our secondary had a bad game, but really I think it was Luck making big time plays under severe pressure. Our OL played it's best game of the season and our depth guys are developing nicely. Out 2 pro bowl starters -- they really improved over last weeks' immolation by Houston.

Wilson has yet to really put a great game together against a team not located in Jacksonville. This is the stretch to get healthy as we get some much better matchups the next 4 weeks (Titans, @Ari, @StL, TB). It's possible we see Harvin's return for the Bucs.

In all just a great game. Both teams played well. The result notwithstanding, I'm thrilled that we are this competitive and haven't come close to putting our best out there yet.

Good post. The fact we went 1-1 and could've been 2-0 against @HOU and @IND despite Okung, Unger, and Giacomini out... is impressive. Once we get our best OL back, and add Harvin, I have a hard time seeing Seattle losing.
