Not the most athletic. You have reading issues.

DeMarcus Love to be swing tackle for Vikings

Could've said the same thing about having Joe Webb take snaps inside of catch balls last preseason. Granted Webb isn't the next Warren Moon but the decision did pay off to an extent.

Brady On Mallet: "I want to play for 10 more years"

A couple seasons ago, the Patriots don't go near players like Mallett or Spikes in the draft, regardless of ability. 10 years ago, Drew Bledsoe became bigger than the team, got hurt, and was no longer a Patriot soon after. Now Brady has obviously reached a level Bledsoe can only wet his bed dreaming about...but it's something to think of. Okay..so a 4-year extension, I said 1-2 seasons, we can say more likely 2...at which time the guaranteed money has been paid out & then what? You know as well as I do that salary isn't guaranteed. Is Tom Brady in the same place with Patriots and the league in 2014? I doubt it.

Broncos to address tailback in free agency

Should look at a guy like Ahmad Bradshaw, someone John Fox is familiar with. Bradshaw is obviously much better as part of a platoon and he'd be ideal for grinding out the shorter-yardage carries. Pierre Thomas also comes to mind for the same reasons, probably comes a little cheaper, but he's got the durability issues. Tim Hightower? Not a sexy name but maybe. Another vet that Denver could consider making a run at is Ronnie Brown. Brown finally came off a full-healthy season & he'd be a back Denver could really utilize in their passing game. Brown is believed to be seeking a 1-year deal, proving himself, and then seeking one final long-term deal that would carry him towards the end of his career.

DeMarcus Love to be swing tackle for Vikings

Because that is what Training Camp is for...should we have one. Its really not that complicated to give the guy a shot at protecting against the outside rush & should he not make the cut, move him to the interior. If anything, working him in at tackle during the preseason should help upgrade his footwork.

    Best Rookie at each position?

QB - Greg McElroy: I know, I'm nuts...just a hunch. Talking long-run here and I've thought this for a minute. RB - Mark Ingram: Perfect situation for a bigger-athletic back. That air-attack will really, really open up the ground game for him. TE - Kyle Rudolph: Please let this be true. WR - Julio Jones: One of the most talented collegiate players I've ever watched play the game. OL - Anthony Castonzo: I'm thinking this is the Jake Long of this draft. DT: Marcell Dareus: Watch how much Buffalo's defense is able to stuff the run and pressure passers now. DE - JJ Watt: Opposite of Mario Williams...you kidding me? LB - Von Miller: He'll likely spend more time on the outside rush but I think John Fox has this kid racking up the sacks. CB - Jimmy Smith: Not the most athletic but I believe the best cover corner in the class S - Quinton Carer: Another hunch, just love his smash-mouth style of play.

    Palmer Wants Out of Cincy

Exactly my point. The Bengals have once again become the Bungals since. Palmer doesn't want to deal with that shit again. Not while he's still got the ability. I mean shit, he's already gone through one nasty knee injury behind that putrid O-Line.

Clausen won't give his number up

The Newtons on the other end of a football payout...? Ironic & interesting, at the same time. This could be Clausen's subconscious "fuck you" to Cam Newton.

Brady On Mallet: "I want to play for 10 more years"

I really, really think Belichick is becoming over-arrogant as far as his personnel assembling and coaching abilities. He made a name for himself in pawning through draft picks and drafting high-class men...but now he's beginning to reach on some of the more problem-children in the draft. I only raise this point b/c, (even though it's tough to imagine right now), I see Brady's relationship with the Patriots becoming extremely stale within the next year or two. I said last year that he was on the downside of his career and I believe that the time is coming soon enough, where New England doesn't want to pay him & Bill decides that Tom is simply too much bigger than the team. Should Mallet learn & grow from Belichick soon enough, Brady's time in New England will get shorter and shorter.

DeMarcus Love to be swing tackle for Vikings

DeMarcus Love needs better footwork and speed to cement himself as a tackle but I believe the Vikings are are thinking about those two-TE sets Musgrave has everyone pipe-dreaming about. I mean...I hope the kid can develop himself at the position, God knows, our current tackles need something to motivate them to do their job consistently.
  11. Love the Sherrod pick, very smart. I mean when you're coming off a Super Bowl & you went through personnel hell to get there, what do you even have to add? Sherrod adds much-needed depth to an O-Line that has seen some key injuries over the last couple seasons. Comparing Randall Cobb to Percy Harvin is where I draw the line. Randall Cobb is no Percy Harvin. Don't let all the highlights you see on television fool you. Cobb is an athlete but he's not nearly as dynamic as Percy Harvin, nor will he be as much of an x-factor on offense. Cobb can be a good slot-guy/returnman....but I'm skeptical as shit. I just don't think the wildcat qb/wr/returnman is GB's style anyway.

Vikings draft Ponder, still going after McNabb?

What do Matt Ryan, Mark Sanchez & Joe Flacco have in common? How about the playoff team around them. Our offensive line is overpaid, half over-aged, and fucking unmotivated. Our defensive line is bound to see the most unproductive season in 10 years. Our secondary is still a joke. We can't even bank on beating the Lions twice a year anymore. Yea...um, thanks for the comparisons Leslie but I wouldn't be so quick to think like that.

    Osama Bin Ladin is dead.

We just ripped the heart out of Al-Qaeda's cause but does it take the wind out of their sails....or really, really piss them off? This is a huge victory in the war on terror but the tension in the Middle East is far from over.

    Palmer Wants Out of Cincy

Jesus Christ, some of you are being harder on Carson for wanting out of Cincinnati than you were Ocho and all his Miami bullshit. The guy in an All-Pro quarterback who has no interest in going back to the basement of the AFC North. Can we blame him? I mean he's heading toward the downside of his career...so who wouldn't want to go somewhere with a better opportunity at winning a ring? Bottom line, the guy wants to win...not another rebuild.

Vikings draft Ponder, still going after McNabb?

Webb has ability, he's still wet behind the ears but by no means was he a disaster in spelling Brent last season. Like I said, we know what we have in Webb...young guy, learning, can make plays with his athleticism & is basically doing exactly what he is told to do through the speaker in his helmet. One thing I like about Joe Webb's starts was that he didn't often give the ball away. You know, like Favre did all last season.

    Draft Thoughts

I don't care who literally pulled the trigger on draft day, fact of the matter remains....we drafted like shit before Chilly & we're drafting like shit now that he's gone. I really don't think Spielman knows dick about personnel, especially draft prospects. This immediately priority of our draft for 2011 was clearly centered around Bill Musgrave's offense.

    Draft Thoughts

By the end of day 2, it was very clear to me that the first 2 picks were all about Bill Musgrave's offense. I normally wouldn't have a problem with that, except for the facts that we have a terrible offensive line, our defensive line is poised to be the worst shape in years, and our secondary remains an Achilles' heel. One thing Brad Childress did well in Minnesota was draft. Regardless of who we needed & who we already had in place, Chilly lead the war room in selecting players that he knew would make a big & immediate impact. He drafted Adrian Peterson the year after we gave Chet Taylor a nice deal to be starter. In his 2nd draft, Childress saw a much better value in acquiring Jared Allen, rather than having the 17th pick in the first round. Last year, despite the success of our passing game in 2009, Chilly took Percy Harvin. For the first time ever, I found myself sort of wishing the guy was still in charge. One thing I know for sure, Nick Fairley is a Viking right now, if Childress was still running that war room. Round 1 - Christian Ponder, QB, Florida State In a perfect world, the Vikings trade down & select Ponder towards the end of the first. Well with New England plotting to hold the entire draft hostage at the end of the first and early second, that wasn't going to happen. Once the Vikes caught word that Miami was poised to take Ponder at 15, done deal at pick 12. Ponder is what he is, thee one quarterback Bill Musgrave feels best suits the offense and can be molded into a star. I think Ponder has all the raw talent and leadership to make this happen; however, his poise, playing under pressure, and mental toughness when the game is one the line, are all concerns. I don't have as much of a problem with taking Ponder here as I do have a problem with who we didn't take. This could be a draft pick of Adrian Peterson proportions...or could go down as another Troy Williamson. Round 2 - Kyle Rudolph, TE, Notre Dame Another smart kid who will suit Musgrave's offense very well. Massive, good hands, and will definitely help in max protect situations. Rudolph will project to be a solid NFL player but did we really need to reach on a TE, this early, with Shiancoe and Klein already on the roster? Taking Stefan Wisniewski seemed like the way more needed pick to bolster our QB protection here. Round 4 - Christian Ballard, DT, Iowa Okay, no we're starting to address the bigger needs of our team but is it too late in the draft to find potential starting talent? Ballard is a very rugged player and his run-stuffing ability makes him the perfect fit for our defense. Playing most of his collegiate career with Adrian Clayborne helps but it's not like Ballard's time in the NFL won't be spent playing with All-Pro linemates. Great value pick here, could definitely beat out Jimmy Kennedy and Everson Griffen for a starting spot on the interior. Round 5 - Brandon Burton, CB, Utah I love this pick as you can never have too many corners, especially in Minnesota. Winfield is at the end of his career and both Cedric Griffin and Chris Cook come off of injury, making Burton a valuable commodity. Burton only logged 2 years as a starter at Utah but many draft analysts have said that he could be one of the best defensive backs taken in this draft. Great open field tackler, size, speed, can blitz; was the guy opposing offenses tried to avoid while playing against the Utes. Round 6 - Demarcus Love, OL, Arkansas We could've taken offensive lineman, every pick, through the rest of draft...and kept our fingers crossed one will emerge as a starter, and I'd be happy. Love is a big boy who's projected to be a RT, definitely a position that needs depth and some motivated talent in Minny. Love started at Arkansas since 2007 and some mocks had him as high as the 2nd round. Round 6 - Mistral Raymond, DB, South Florida Raymond is a taller safety who loves to play aggressive. Overcame a lot of personal tragedy as a youth to be named 2nd All-Big East Team as a senior. This is a guy who will be very interesting to watch throughout the pre-season as our worst roster talent is currently at safety. Round 6 - Brandon Fusco, OL, Slippery Rock Love this pick for 2 reasons: 1, it's another O-Lineman and 2, these small school picks are some of the most intriguing. A lot of these smaller school guys can have the talent to match the BCS school talent; however, their draft status suffers due to lack of exposure. Fusco is said to be an excellent pass blocker with good footwork. Played center in college but could be on depth chart at RG. Round 6 - Ross Homan, LB, Ohio State High motor, good football IQ, and plays with a lot of intensity. 3 year starter who lacks the adequate size and speed for the NFL level. I'm thinking at best, Homan makes an impact on our special teams...another area which needed to be addressed this offseason. Round 7 - D'Aundre Reed, DE, Arizona A like this pick b/c it's a kid with a lot to prove & it's round 7...so we really have nothing to lose at this point. Stuck behind Brooks Reed and Ricky Elimore at Arizona, Reed's biggest knock is that he was never a full time starter. Does have the size and speed to play at the NFL level and should be really motivated to make a name for himself and earn a spot on the depth chart. Round 7 - Stephen Burton, WR, West Texas A&M Good frame with nice speed but has trouble running routes and will likely struggle to create separation in the NFL. Looks as though his best bet is fighting to get on the roster as a returnman. I'm looking at him as another Jaymar Johnson-type of player.

    Don't all clap at once...

Came back specifically to argue with F4E....as another season, sooner or later, will be upon us.
  21. The UFL is about a season from going completely kerput. They were supposed to be growing by their 3rd season but all that's happening is original teams move closer and closer to folding, nobody is watching, and the debts continue to pile up. This league still owes Mark Cuban and HDNET a handsome payback for a loan that was handed out a year ago.
  22. Of course he will, that playbook is going to be totally designed around him & his ability. It's sad because this time last year, it was all about how "perfect" Jimmy Clausen to be going to Carolina, given the offensive system they were running. Clausen got thrown to the wolves way too early b/c of injuries, he was about as horrible as anyone could be with that team, and now the world thinks he's garbage. I really hope Clausen can find his way out of Carolina and get a more legit chance to start elsewhere. Cam is going to be running for his life in that division.

Reggie Bush done in New Orleans?

Can anybody honestly say Reggie Bush has had a single season where he's proven to be worth $11.3 million? The guy is a beast in the open field, makes plays, and is a nice extra dimension to an offense....but that doesn't change the fact that he's been oft-injured & will never be that every down NFL running back that teams give $11 million per to. Ingram is the perfect fit for Payton's smash-mouth running plays which off-set the passing attack. In my opinion, Ingram is going to be an absolute BEAST in the NFL. Nobody will give a shit about Reggie Bush in the Big Easy, halfway through the season. And to think most of us thought the Texans were nuts once upon a time.

Vikings draft Ponder, still going after McNabb?

McNabb isn't happening & thankfully so. Ponder was saying that he understands a lot of the basics to Bill Musgrave's offense & there's part of the basic packages which are extremely similar to what Jimbo Fisher was doing at FSU. That said, Ponder's learning curve will be very small & I think he's our day 1 starter. If Ponder fails in camp or simply isn't ready, then we already know what we have in Joe Webb. People seem to have already forgotten how well Joe Webb can play while under center. Joe Webb isn't going to be winning any Super Bowls but he's a hell of a stop-gap.

Trent Dilfer: "Ponder Is Elvis Grbac"

Dilfer was cast out of Baltimore in favor of Grbac once. Grbac put up numbers for the Ravens Dilfer has wet dreams about; however, Grbac didn't have that nasty defense of 2000, hence he didn't win a ring. Anyways... I love how every single analyst I've heard mention Ponder's name since he was drafted, has compared him to somebody completely different from the next guy. Dilfer says Elvis Grbac but Jim Mora says a combination of Joe Montana and Drew Brees. I think it would be fair to say Ponder is somewhere in the middle of those names. Ponder has the skill set, he has the leadership abilities, and at the same time, he's smart as hell. No kid will study harder and learn the playbook faster. If you're looking for the prototypical west coast qb to groom, look no further. BUT...Ponder's had his issues at Florida State. Never matured into the star-Heisman player he was projected to be and he does struggle under pressure. I've even heard some claim that he plays with anxiety, a trait you don't want any qb to have.
