    Recommend some good audiobooks?

Anybody out there listen to audiobooks? With me heading to Namibia Friday morning I'm stacking my ipod and ipad with entertainment for the flight. The flight from Atlanta to Johanasberg is 16 hours straight. And the flight home is Joberg to Paris-10 Hours, Paris to Atlanta is 10 Hours.. and of course all the connecting flights home. So anything you guys would recommend? Something interesting and easy to listen to. Maybe something fictional as I've never really dove into the fictional realm of books, I've always been a autobiography guy (not feeling it for this trip though). Thanks!

    Recommend some good audiobooks?

    I'll give them a shot...thanks bro
  10. Yes I do think we have a misunderstanding. Because I can see where you are coming from in not being morally ok with gay marriage. I'm just talking from a government level.
  11. And your logic doesn't follow. Incest can lead to lots of complications with birth. It's not wrong because of some religious sense, it's wrong on a biological sense. It doesn't hurt me, but the child produced from that relationship can mentally messed up. Now after first cousins the complications of incestuous birth drop off. And honestly I don't give a shit if you want to do it with your second cousin. But I'm not going to... If people are against homosexuality that's fine, that's not what I'm saying. That's your opinion and your entitled to it. But your opinions shouldn't be able to affect the lives of others. Then it's no longer just an opinion. But how does a gay marriage hurt people in the relationship or outside of the relationship? It doesn't... if the couple is getting married than there is a good chance that they do in fact love each other. It's not like they are being forced to marry. So I would love some clarification on this. Exactly, if you are morally against it...too bad. Because you have no right to actually tell someone they don't have the rights that straight people do just because they were, in fact, born that way.
  12. 100 years people are going to look back on this issue and think of it the same way we think about how we used to not let women vote, or we that we used to segregate black people from white people. It's crazy to think about these things now, and back then I'm sure there were a lot of people that were not in favor of equal rights. It's absurd to try and run a country with a religious iron-fist. Because not everyone shares the same religion, and many don't believe in anything at all. And if someone wants to quote Leviticus: Why don't they quote this: Oh you mean like tattoos? How come nobody ever quotes that one? Or how about: So....like football? You know, tossing around the ol' pigskin.. and screw giving up bacon. Just saying....
  13. I'll never understand anyone who is against gay-marriage. I can understand just not caring either way, but to openly deny people rights is just wrong. What does it matter to you? How does it hurt you in anyway.

    The American (in)Justice System

This is true, I was once in Zimbawbe (recently voted one of the corrupt countries in the world)...and on their bridge next to the border (over Victoria Falls I might add) is a large sign that says "Do not stop on bridge to take pictures" and of course some dumb American stops and then shortly gets hauled in by a rather large man with an AK-47... I watched this American repeatedly yell at the border patrol. To my, and my guides surprise the patrol did not just shoot the American. Because there that wouldn't have even been an issue. Anyways, this is a real shitty deal. This stuff always pisses me off, as Im the type of guy who would jump in to help. I'm surprised they didn't flip it and try and charge Madina Lake for not letting the man beat his wife. But as others pointed out, there are major flaws in our legal system. But there are flaws in any legal system. Look at the Oslo, Norway bombing case. They don't even have a punishment of life in prison, now that's fucked up.
  15. So I've been home for all of two days and I'm already ready for a post for you guys. But this is probably my last one before I leave for Africa this friday... then I'll be gone for two weeks and back with enough photos to fill 8 threads (hopefully) Anyway... Supermoon: Technically I didn't get much of the actual supermoon because of cloud cover, but I was able to experiment a lot with flash photography. Gone Fishing: Taken at this pond right in the middle of town ha. Silver Falls: Those last few shots of the waterfall involved some pretty intense free climbing, with one hand I might add as I had my camera and tripod in the other hand. As always.... favorites/comments/critiques <3, Sweetness

    Photography: Supermoon and Waterfalls

Thanks bro. The long exposure with my sister in it was me expiramenting with flash. I left the shutter open for 30 seconds while I ran around below her with my external flash... so while the camera was doing 30 second exposures of the background, it was picking her up really well because of the flash. It's the same with the shot of the old fireplace. While my camera captured it I was running from side to side force firing the flash to eliminate shadows. It was a technique I've never used but will be using from now on. Much love.

    Junior Seau Dead at 43

Yes it does, but there are a lot studies that link dopamine as well. Obviously I don't want to give a lecture on neurotransmitters. But just look up head traumas and depression, a lot of studies link the two. That is what I'm getting at.

    Junior Seau Dead at 43

As someone who has studied a lot on concussions because I've suffered them myself, I can tell you even a few can change someone's brain chemistry. And as a psychology major I've done my fair share studying depression. But I've also suffered from depression, and it's no joke. Unless you've suffered from depression, you would not understand. It tore my life apart and made me distance myself from all of my friends and family. Countless times I sat on this cliff outside of town and contemplated jumping off. If you have depression you want nothing more than to escape. If it wouldn't have been for my dad identifying it and making me see a therapist I don't think I'd be alive today. And it can affect anyone, I had a great life. Dopamine is a chemical in charge of happiness, depressed people have less dopamine in their brains. And brain injuries can reduce dopamine transporters in the brain. So if you take a person who maybe already is susceptible to depression, there is a much better chance of a severe depression with repeated brain trauma. So yes he had lots of falling outs, but those may have come after the depression, not be the cause. Depressions changes the person and often ruins close relationships.

    Junior Seau Dead at 43

Posted this on SI, but I'll post here too. Hopefully add a little insight as to why he may have done it I think Junior's was related to all of the head trauma he went through after so many years in the league. That much trauma can really screw up how a person's mind works. In Feburary, ex bear Dave Duerson committed suicide in the same fashion to preserve his brain to be studied. I think that Junior did the same thing. There is a disease caused by repeated blows to the head and it is common in ex-NFL players. These brains will be studied to help further concussion research. This really is a blow to my heart though. Junior Seau was an idol to me growing up. By far one of my favorite players and was a true inspiration. He was a class act and a good role model. R.I.P.
  22. Hey guys, sorry I haven't been around much... just finished up spring ball on Saturday and now I'm preppin hard for finals coming up. News that hasn't graced this site yet is that I'm heading back to Africa... this time as a photographer! This is my first real big photography gig and I'm stoked. I'll be down there for two weeks come May 12th, so if you haven't already go like my facebook fan page- facebook.com/peakphotographer and I'll be keeping that page up to date with pictures as I get internet. Now for the actual pictures portion. As many of you know, I'm a landscape/nature photographer and I rarely take pictures of people. Well a buddy of mine asked if I'd take pictures of him and some friends and do a country themed portrait shoot. Here are the results: ^favorite And of course I had to incorporate some of my favorite shots... done in HDR So I'm really curious as to what you guys think... I'm not a portrait photographer nor do I have the setup for portraits, but I'm pretty satisfied. Anyway, favorites/comments/critiques/ect p.s. I have a shit ton of stuff for you guys that I've failed to keep up to date here

    Justin Moore

So my favorite country singer right now is Justin Moore. And I'm going to see him and Blake Shelton this Thursday (second time seeing JM, first to see Blake Shelton). But thought it was kinda cool, I get to do a meet and greet with Justin Moore before the concert. So that should be pretty chill. Anyway, any other JM fans out there? I don't think he gets nearly as much credit as he deserves.

Photography prints need to be sold!

Hey guys, I hate to ask you guys for shit, but would anybody be willing to buy any prints from me??! I broke my favorite lens and it's either going to cost me a couple hundred to fix or $300 for a new lens to semi-replace this one. So even if you buy a $5 4x6 every little bit helps me to get back to taking pictures again. The lens I broke happened to be my everyday lens, all of my other lenses are highly specialized and are difficult to use for everyday things. So really anything helps: my website is http://peakphotography.org love you guys <3 ps: I have a shit ton of pictures from spring break I have to post up for you guys.
