Dolphins @ Vikings

Recommended Posts

Over the last 25 years, all six meetings between the Dolphins and Vikings have been decided by six points or fewer. Miami has won the last three after Minnesota won the previous three.

Last week, the Dolphins beat the Patriots on a 69-yard, double-lateral touchdown pass on the game's final play. It marked the first game-winning TD pass with no time left in regulation since the "Minneapolis Miracle" by the Vikings' Stefon Diggs in last year's playoffs against New Orleans.

Minnesota fired offensive coordinator John DeFilippo after back-to-back losses in which the Vikings averaged just 8.5 points and 277.0 yards per game. The Vikings have had little balance offensively this season, as 67.0 percent of their plays have been passes, second highest behind Pittsburgh (67.2).

Last week's win over New England was Miami's fourth this season when trailing in the fourth quarter, tied with the Rams and Saints for most in the NFL. On the other hand, Minnesota is 0-6-1 when trailing in the fourth quarter and 6-0 when leading in the fourth quarter.

Ryan Tannehill is coming off his third game this season with 3+ TD passes and fewer than 25 attempts, the most such games in a season in franchise history. For the season, 8.1 percent of his passes have gone for touchdowns, which would rank second in team history behind Dan Marino in 1984 (8.5 percent).

Kirk Cousins is 25 completions shy of Sam Bradford's single-season franchise record of 395, set in 2016. Cousins is 96 passing yards shy of 20,000, and if he gets it this week, he'll tie Kurt Warner for fourth fastest to the mark at 76 games, trailing Matthew Stafford (71), Andrew Luck (74) and Dan Marino (74).
