Charles Haley headlines Divisional Hall of Fame Class of 2011

Oh yeah. It’s officially “one of those daysâ€.

 

One week after the National Football Foundation revealed the College Football Hall of Fame Class of 2011 for the Div. 1-A level, the caretakers of the collegiate game announced the Divisional Hall of Fame Class of 2011 Tuesday. Launched in 1996, the Divisional Hall of Fame program acknowledges players and coaches from the I-AA, II, III, and the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) levels of college football.

 

Headlining this year’s class is former James Madison linebacker and San Francisco 49ers/Dallas Cowboys defensive end Charles Haley. Haley played for the Dukes from 1982-1985, earning first-team All-American honors his senior season. He’s the first player in the history of the JMU football program to be inducted into the collegiate Hall of Fame.

 

In addition to Haley, three other players as well as two former coaches make up this year’s class:

 

– Dexter Coakley – Appalachian State, LB (1993-96)

 

– Mike Favor – North Dakota State, C (1985-88)

 

– Mickey Kobrosky – Trinity (Conn.), B (1933-36)

 

– Mike Kelly – 246-54-1 (81.9%); Dayton (1981-2007)

 

– Bill Manlove – 212-111-1 (65.5%); Widener (Pa.) (1969-91), Delaware Valley (Pa.) (1992-95), La Salle (1997-2001)

 

“We are very proud to highlight the outstanding careers of the 2011 Divisional Class,†NFF chairman Archie Manning said in a statement. “They have reached the pinnacle of success in our sport, and they should be applauded for their induction into college football’s ultimate shrine. We look forward to celebrating with them and their families this summer.â€

 

This year’s divisional class will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame during the Enshrinement Festival, July 15-16, in South Bend, Ind. The 16-member Div. 1-A class will officially be inducted into the Hall of Fame during a December ceremony.
