Marshall praises Henne

Recommended Posts

Something new happened after the Miami Dolphins' 20-10 preseason victory over the Carolina Panthers Friday night.

Outspoken (and sometimes diva) wide receiver Brandon Marshall positively gushed about quarterback Chad Henne to the media.

"I love how Chad Henne took over the offense," Marshall told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Dolfans would be forgiven if they are taken aback by that statement.

"He's just done a tremendous job of taking over the huddle. You need that in a quarterback. The talent is there, but the leadership he's shown from the offseason into this camp has been amazing, a huge difference," Marshall continued.

Henne and Marshall might be able to make their relationship work after an up-and-down 2010 which saw Marshall sometimes yell at Henne in frustration on the sidelines and tell the media now-departed backup Tyler Thigpen might do better in the starting quarterback.

But that has all changed, apparently, thanks to improved play from Henne. He played so competently Friday that Marshall couldn't even find a reason to yell at him on the sideline. Instead, during the second half they were spotted by the Sentinel "standing side by side, sharing a lengthy conversation."

Perhaps they were gossiping about their book club or comparing their Chad Pennington impressions. Regardless, Miami fans must be relieved that the two can be in the same room without bickering.

This must be a boost for Henne seeing as the Dolphins fans have been on his back as they want a trade for Orton to happen this season. If Henne to Marshall can continue to progress well then they might surprise a few people.

Why not even though its only pre-season when Henne has been playing he has played very well, if he can get at least get close to Orton's level the Phins could have a shot at the playoffs.

In their first 3 seasons Orton and Henne's stats are almost identical:

TD's INT's Pass %

Orton: 30 27 55

Henne: 27 33 61

Overall they are very comparable in their first few seasons and ultimately there is some proof that Henne could come to Orton's level.

You act as if Orton repeatedly leads his team to the postseason. Orton is nothing more than a stat padder who sucks when the game is on the line. So even if Henne got close to Orton's ''level'', the Dolphins still would most likely have no shot at the playoffs.

Anyone really surprised by this? I mean there is no way Marshall throws his Quarterback under the bus...this is how teams work (Especially the WR-QB relationship..."that's my quarterback!") whether they are right or wrong. Besides all Marshall is praising is Henne's leadership... Not like he's saying Henne is the next coming of Marino.

Henne being a good leader (apparently) doesn't change the fact that he sucks and I'd be willing to bet Marshall thinks the same thing. Lol

Cromp I'm not saying that Orton is a top 5 QB far from it he is however better than Henne and all ready has a relationship with Marshall, they know how each over plays and if the trade was to happen would only benefit the Phins.

BucD I am actually as a lot of last season you cold see Marshall having arguments with Henne about pretty much everything and you could tell there was friction between the two. So far Henne's pre season play has impressed and even Marshall may be swallowing some pride here with this.
