Dutch 874 Posted January 17, 2013 http://www.thegridironpalace.com/forums/index.php?app=forums&module=post§ion=post&do=new_post&f=41 The Cleveland Browns made it official on Thursday, announcing the worst kept secret in the NFL: Norv Turner is coming aboard as the team's offensive coordinator. Instant Debate: Best coaching hire? The Eagles finally got their man in Chip Kelly. Across the NFL, which coaching hire holds the most promise for success? More ... New Browns coach Rob Chudzinkski worked under Turner in San Diego, and now will return the favor. It's a coup for Chudzinski to get one of the most experienced offensive minds in the game to work under him. Turner has developed quarterbacks wherever he's coached and is a noted play caller. We'd expect Chudzinski to pass over play-calling duties to Turner. The Browns also named other staff members: Brad Roll (strength & conditioning), Mike Sullivan (offensive line) and Scott Turner (wide receivers). In addition, Chris Tabor (special teams coordinator) and George Warhop (offensive line) will be retained from last year's staff. "Norv has been one of the most respected offensive coaches in the NFL over the last 25-30 years, and he has had a tremendous amount of success at each one of his stops -- as a position coach, coordinator and head coach," Chudzinski said in a statement. "I was able to learn a great deal in the time that I worked for him in San Diego, and I expect that having him as our offensive coordinator will make a big impact on that side of the ball." It speaks well for Chudzinski that Turner respects him so much that he is willing to work under him. Turner had options for jobs elsewhere in the NFL. You can question Turner's ability as a head coach, but he's always been an effective offensive coordinator. That's why he's been hired as a head coach three times. I think this may be a good hire. Definitely an upgrade.

Kardiac Kids 6 Posted January 18, 2013 Great hire. And since Chud looks to be headed to a 3-4 D, I'm hoping for Horton as his replacemant to Jauron.
Vin+ 3,121 Posted April 18, 2013 Browns OC Norv Turner has coached the NFL's leading rusher five times with three different players (Emmitt Smith, Ricky Williams, LaDainian Tomlinson). Turner took a lot of heat for his bungling of Ryan Matthews in San Diego, but that was an exception to the rule. Normally, he loves riding one back and usually devises schemes that lead to success. It's more good news for Trent Richardson, who is fully healthy after nagging injuries played a part in his disappointing 3.55 YPC average last season. Vin+ 3,121 Posted July 5, 2013 The Browns have installed more shotgun plays designed to increase Brandon Weeden's comfort level in new OC Norval Turner's offense. Weeden played in a shotgun offense at Oklahoma State, and Turner wants to "free him up to see the field and throw" after Weeden "struggled with the rigidity" of old coach Pat Shurmur's under-center West Coast scheme. The Browns are not sold on Weeden as a franchise quarterback -- and shouldn't be -- but they are "determined" to find out whether he's a viable short-term solution.
