Campin's TGP Radio Hipster Mock

Recommended Posts

First off I didn't do any trades because I'm lazy. The draft playing out like this is almost certainly not going to happen. Also, this isn't a mock of what I would do if I were each team's GM it's a mock of what possibly could happen in real life (but won't.)

1) :Texans:Jadeveon Clowney, DE/OLB South Carolina

Texans ultimately just take the top talent in the class, nothing much more to add.

2) :Rams:Jake Matthews, OT Texas A&M

Jake Long's rehabbing from the ACL so Matthews can hold it down at LT until he recovers and after he does Matthews can use his experience at RT to flip over for the rest of the season. In 2015 it becomes feasible to cut or trade Long and save money and let Matthews take over at LT full time with a much smaller cap number. Also, Jeff Fisher drafts his long time buddy/former player Bruce Matthews' kid.

3) :jags:Sammy Watkins, WR Clemson

The Jags seem iffy on the top QBs so they grab one of the top 3 talents in the draft and a play maker to help their anemic offense to pair with Cecil Shorts. Justin Blackmon's situation is up in the air, and when Mike Brown and Ace Sanders are your #2 options you're in the market for WRs.

4) :Browns:Mike Evans, WR Texas A&M

Browns use their high pick to grab one of the top talents and make a pick that causes the QB room to flood in excitement by grabbing the big bodied freak Mike Evans. Pair him with Josh Gordon outside, Andrew Hawkins out the slot and Jordan Cameron running up the seam and opposing defenses lose sleep.

5) :Raiders:Aaron Donald, DT Pittsburgh

Donald is a top 5 talent in this draft. The Raiders grab Donald to pair/or rotate with Antonio Smith inside. Interior pressure is king, it disrupts a QB far more than outside pressure — teams are waking up to this, and the Raiders grab this freak of an athlete to penetrate interior OLs and drive Peyton, Rivers, and Alex Smith crazy.

6) :Falcons:Khalil Mack, OLB/DE Buffalo

With the Falcons switching to a 4-3 Under scheme also employed by teams like Seattle and Jacksonville they grab a movable piece to generate some much needed pass rush in Mack. They can mix him in standing up outside or hand in the ground and grab a violent force outside.

7) :Bucs:JohnnyOVO, QB Texas A&M

The Bucs grab the first QB off the board and it's Johnny Ybor. One of those cases where the best smoke screen at this time is telling the truth because no one expects it and the Bucs pull the trigger. He instantly opens things up for Doug Martin by keeping the front 7 cautious of Manziel's mobility (think back to what Vince Young did for Chris Johnson, Mike Vick for Shady McCoy), and Johnny gets another big body go-get-it WR to play with in Vincent Jackson.

8) :Vikings:Justin Gilbert, CB Oklahoma State

In the first reach of the draft Mike Zimmer grabs what is perceived to be the best CB in the draft. The Vikings get gun shy on the QBs given their miss with Ponder and pass on QB this round to grab what they think is a top 10 talent. NFL teams love speed, and Gilbert has it in bunches along with great ball skills. They team him up with Xavier Rhodes and figure they can iron out his wrinkles by making him a full time press corner which Zimmer said he will be playing much more of than the Vikings did in the pass (which is good for Rhodes, and now here with Gilbert.)

9) :Bills:Greg Robinson, OT Auburn

One of those picks where value meets need in a perfect storm. Bills grab their RT to road grade poor defenders in the run game and open up holes for the Buffalo run game to help take the pressure off EJ Manuel. Robinson has the athleticism and feet to be turned into a pretty good pass protector too, though right now he is definitely really raw in that area.

10) :Lions:Eric Ebron, TE North Carolina

The Lions mull over reaching for one of the CBs left, or one of the WRs left or taking their top safety but ultimately grab another athletic play maker to drive defenses crazy in Eric Ebron. The eternal tease Brandon Pettigrew just got a new deal, but they can cut ties after 2 years and Fauria is just a red zone threat for now. Here they can use Ebron much like the Saints do Jimmy Graham — in the slot to team with Megatron and Golden Tate.

11) :Titans:Anthony Barr, OLB UCLA

Titans grab Barr to be their speed off the edge in their new 3-4 alignment under Ray Horton. I got nothing else to say really this is one of my handful of boring obvious picks in this mock. The tacks suck.

12) :Giants:Ra'Shede Hageman, DT Minnesota

With Aaron Donald gone and it being too early to reach on the DE or interior OL left the Giants decide between their top FS and their next top DT, and decide on the freak athlete at DT in Ra'Shede Hageman. The Giants have a history of grabbing raw defensive lineman and turning them into play makers, Hageman is next in line.

13) :Rams:Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix, FS Alabama

Jeff Fisher (a former safety) gets a safety he can play around with. Some feel HHCD can be a better pro than college safety — the thinking being he could do much more than what Alabama's scheme had the FS doing. Fisher figures he can do just that and also fill a desperate need.

14) :Bears:Dominique Easley, DT Florida

A shocker, I know. However Easley is a top 10 talent in this draft and after hurting his knee he fell into the 3rd and even 4th round projection wise. Well news just broke about him impressing at workouts with multiple teams displaying that same quickness and agility that made his tape so engaging. It seems as if he's on track to even start training camp. There's legit rumblings that he's now entered back into the late 1st round. The Bears here however decide to take a chance and grab a potential steal before a team in the 20s steals him away.

15) :Steelers:Kyle Fuller, CB/FS Virginia Tech

The Steelers mull over taking the WRs left, the safeties left, or going heavy needs based with Nix or Jernigan, but ultimately decide on the versatile Kyle Fuller. They figure they want a big WR for Ben since they had smaller shiftier guys already and Kelvin Benjamin is a major reach at this point so they wait for that later in the draft. Ike Taylor is a fossil and they miss their former big CB in Keenan Lewis and see a lot of him in the big, polished and smooth young DB Kyle Fuller who can also play some FS and roaming LB for them.

16) :Cowboys:Calvin Pryor, S Louisville

The 'Boys grab the big hitting ball hawk safety Calvin Pryor to improve their secondary. They weigh their options and choose a potential play maker over possibly reaching on a DT or OLB. There's debate over whether he's a FS or SS but he can likely do both, and the Cowboys could use both.

17) :Ravens:Taylor Lewan, OT/OG Michigan

The Ravens think about grabbing C.J. Mosley here but ultimately are cautious of his medical flags as well as finally giving Arthur Brown some burn next to Daryl Smith and take what they see as value in Lewan to improve their pitiful run blocking from last year. Some think Lewan is a OG, some think he can survive outside, Ravens give him first shot at RT and at worst can plug him in at LG. Power and mean, Lewan brings some nastiness to your OL.

18) :Jets:Odell Beckham, Jr, WR LSU

Geno needs weapons plain and simple. Jeremy Kerley being your best WR means you need WRs and Odell Beckham just so happens to be an outstanding prospect. Good hands, great body control, can win contested catches and go up and get it, speed for days — Geno has his new bae.

19) :dolphins:Zack Martin, OG/OT Notre Dame

Tannehill gon' die. Zack Martin helps to possibly solve that. Play him at OG or RT if his arm length doesn't prevent him from struggling outside because the guy is just all around solid technique wise.

20) :Cardinals:Derek Carr, QB Fresno State

The second QB is off the board finally and it's the big armed Derek Carr. Bruce Arians loves the vertical passing game and while Derek Carr's accuracy deep was actually poor in college Arians figures he can coach up the kid's mechanics to improve that and reign in his good arm. They plan for Carr to sit behind Palmer and take over within the next couple years.

21) :Packers:C.J. Mosley, ILB Alabama

Pretty obvious pick, Packers need to shore up their run defense and pass on Nix for what they feel is the better value with the best LB prospect in the draft. They feel good enough to pull the trigger despite his medical concerns and add a really good inside linebacker.

22) :Eagles:Jimmie Ward, S Northern Illinois

With Mosley sniped from them a pick prior the Eagles debate over grabbing a WR, or CB but decide the depth of both of those positions make it smarter to go ahead and grab a position that isn't deep that they need and take play making versatile safety Jimmie Ward. Ward also gives them a safety who can match up man-to-man with TEs and backs out the backfield acting as both a safety and nickel back as he has the skills and ability to play both.

23) :Chiefs:Xavier Su'a-Filo, OG UCLA

Now barren at OG due to free agency, the Chiefs grab the best one in the draft in XSF. Charles needs lanes to run in, and Alex Smith needs protection up the middle. Pretty obvious pick.

24) :Bengals:Blake Bortles, QB Central Florida

SHOCKER. The Bengals are quietly rumored to be a dark horse "QB team" in this upcoming draft. Andy Dalton is on the last year of his contract and given his struggles in the post season the Bengals aren't sure if they should give him that big money extension so they decide to hedge their bets and grab a falling Blake Bortles. This move can result in two ways: with the new added competition Dalton clicks into another unforeseen gear and takes the next step — or he stays Andy Dalton and the Bengals let him walk and slide Bortles in with the same rookie wages instead of giving that big money deal to Dalton.

25) :Chargers:Darqueze Dennard, CB Michigan State

The Chargers need CBs bad. Dennard has been falling because word is the NFL isn't as high on him as the media or fans have been given some of his flaws. The Chargers like what they see regardless and take him to be their physical press man CB outside.

26) :Browns:Teddy Bridgewater, QB Louisville

The fall has ended. Teddy goes into a good situation now with Josh Gordon, Mike Evans, Andrew Hawkins and Jordan Cameron to throw to behind a good offensive line. They have Bridgewater and Hoyer compete and either one wins and gets pushed by the other.

27) :Saints:Marcus Martin, C Southern California

The Saints lost their starting Center and can upgrade with the physically impressive Martin. They brought him in for a private workout and visit so the interest is definitely there. This draft is thin at Center so the Saints strike while they can and take the top one to help shore up the middle for their RBs and to protect Brees from interior pressure.

28) :panthers:Morgan Moses, OT Virginia

Before the Panthers can grab some weapons for Cam to throw to they need to make sure he has time to get it to said weapons. They grab Moses the big LT out of UVA who some have even said might be the best OT prospect in the draft. He's certainly a nice big piece to mold. They think about Brandin Cooks to replace Steve Smith but take the big guy while he's still there and wait to grab from the larger pool of WR depth later.

29) :Patriots: — Brandin Cooks, WR Oregon State

Cooks falls and the Pats can't say no. Pats add a much needed weapon for Brady with the shifty Brandin Cooks who knows how to fight for the football and win contested catches. He reminds me of Victor Cruz, if he's even close to that Brady will be pleased.

30) :49ers:Bradley Roby, CB Ohio State

The Niners consider taking Weston Richburg here, Verrett and the WRs left are in play too but they take what they see as value and grab Roby who falls to them here. Brock and Culliver are good CBs but Culliver is unreliable off the field so they grab a talented corner they feel they can coach up and minimize his flaws.

31) :Broncos:Ryan Shazier, LB Ohio State

Buckeyes back-to-back, the Broncos grab who they view as Wesley Woodyard's replacement because Nate Irving is not the move. Del Rio gets another quick, fast LB that can run sideline to sideline and has excellent coverage ability just like Woodyard did.

32) :Seahawks:Cody Latimer, WR Indiana

There's a reason Latimer was invited to the draft because he will be going late Day 1 or early Day 2. The Seahawks debate over grabbing OL help in the versatile Joel Bitonio but ultimately fall in love with the potential of Latimer to come in and replace Golden Tate.

Now let the outrage commence...

Manziel :megusta:. Would be crazy if Oakland took Donald there. Would be a Raider like move though.
