  1. The Pats don't look like world beaters anymore, or at least until they can shake the rust off in the wake of all the weapons lost. And Buffalo provided a glimpse at a possible blueprint on how to get to Brady without sacrificing coverage downfield. The Jets had a pretty decent looking pass rush against Tampa, so the keys here will be pass rush, turnovers and field position. Let's face it, Smith is a dynamic player, but only a marginal upgrade over Sanchez right now. He has the physical skills, but the intangibles and IQ need work. He will need all the possessions he can get against one of the most successful TO differential defenses in the game (and some help from Ivory and Powell) to make it work.

I think it stays close for a half, then NE begins to pick the Jets apart thanks to experience and home field advantage...30-17, :Patriots: .

  2. Shane Vereen, along with Jared Cook, have begun what I believe is going to be yet another frustrating fantasy year for me. I had him on the bench, thinking Ridley would do just fine against the Bills D. So shame on me for not cuffing him. The minute I resolve to start cuffing them in future matchups, what happens? This happens. The fantasy gods are already mocking me.

  3. The Good:

    - Tannehill looks even sharper this year, and he looks way more comfortable now with a year of this system under his belt. That isn't to say more improvements can't be made.

    - Cameron fucking Wake. That is all.

    - While we're talking about Wake, the entire pass rush was exactly what I have been hoping for. Weeden was on the ground or had a hand in his face for more than 50% of his dropbacks. I'm also taking that with a grain of salt until I can see them against a better O-line.

    - The secondary are a bunch of opportunists this year. 2 INTs off of tipped passes, and the first one by Patterson was nothing short of extraordinary concentration.

    - Brian Hartline was worth every penny of that extension, if not for the sole fact that he and Tannehill have the best chemistry...and it isn't even close.

    - We won? All kidding aside, we closed it out, and that is huge in my book, since closing games out last year was the difference between a WC spot and sitting at home.

    The Bad:

    - While we did win, it wasn't really that pretty.

    - The O-line needs serious work. Tanny didn't take too much punishment last week, but it will happen in the future if they don't toughen up and figure their shit out.

    - Wallace was nowhere to be found, but I credit this to him being the primary target of the Browns secondary. This in turn opened things up for Hartline and Gibson.

    - The man coverage still needs improvement, especially on the deep ball. Cleveland was a couple of dropped bombs away from having a better box score.

    The Ugly:

    - Um, at this time we apparently don't have a run game, and I have a hard time discerning if it is a lack of talent (I doubt it), terrible zone blocking (likely), or Cleveland's front seven is just that monstrous (most likely). The containment was damn near perfect almost every time a runner got the ball. It was impressive, and I think AFCN runners are going to have a tough divisional season.

  4. Pick up Harry Douglas. I know that sounds bland, but any targets that were going the way of White are going to end up on Douglas. I know it makes more sense to say that Julio will get all those looks, but he won't. He may get more than usual, but Ryan isn't afraid to throw to HD. Not to mention, he showed his ability yesterday with a near 100 yard performance, he has huge big play potential.

Douglas looked pretty darn good when the ball came his way. I was impressed, at least.

  5. Never done a live draft offline before, so im curious to know how I did. One thing I did notice is how little the average person knows about current rosters and schemes. Anyway...here are my results...snake draft...I had second pick.

    1. Aaron Rodgers

    2. Julio Jones

    3. Steven Ridley

    4. Dwayne Bowe

    5. Eddie Lacy

    6. Owen Daniels

    7. Mike Wallace

    8. Bernard Pierce

    9. Patriots D

    10. Jared Cook

    11. Ryan Tannehill

    12. Sebastian Janiskowski

    13. Andre Brown

    14. Deandre Hopkins

    15. Keenan Allen

It was harder to track who had and hadn't been drafted than I thought it would be, so I already found some names I should have grabbed. I think I took Pierce way too high but they wete enforcing the time limit pretty fierce. Panic pick. As a whole I think RB is my weakest position.

  6. What upsets me the most about this, aside from the fact that it continues the disturbing trend of starters dropping like flies this off-seasons, is the excuse Swearinger ponied up after the fact. If you watch the replay a couple times, it's obvious how much time he had to prepare for that hit. The slow development of the play itself was one of the nails in the coffin to begin with. But to say he went low to avoid a fine...whatever. He went low because he was too fucking lazy to wrap a guy up.

It was a completely legal hit, but a completely unnecessary one, and now our one best option at TE is done for the season. Fuck yourself, DJ.

  7. The NFL All IQ Team

These are the kind of articles I love to find, because not only do the true dual-threats get recognized, but I always walk away pleasantly surprised. Some of my favorite highlights...

    - Ryan Fitzpatrick - People rag on him, but he's still managed nearly a decade in the league. He's pretty set after the NFL with that Harvard degree, too...

    - Kealoha Pilares - Not gonna lie, I have no idea who he is, but double majoring in kinesiology AND Rec Science with over a 3.5 is impressive. He shouldn't have any trouble after the NFL.

    - Jacob Tamme - A Master's before even reaching the NFL...nuff said.

    - London Fletcher - Every ounce of recognition he gets is long overdue. He earned his time on the field and payed his way through a school that doesn't hand out scholarships.

    - Both cornerbacks - For all the shit Nnamdi has been taking, he's a smart mother fucker with doctoral parents. Sherman was the best surprise of all...did a 5th year to work on his Master's. I made the mistake of judging the book by its cover...lesson learned. Good on him.

  8. Not to come off as a health nut, but I'm a sucker for grilled salmon with steamed rice and veggies. I usually like it with lemon, too. Pair it up with a nice glass of wine and I'm more than happy.

If I'm going the unhealthy route, a buddy of mine cooks the best fall-off-the-bone ribs I've ever had. I'd probably settle for a rack of those slathered in chipotle bbq sauce and a pitcher of Coors.

  9. This is just a way for me to keep all my Phins posts in one thread to avoid spamming the AFCE forum.

Biggest news right now is the confirmation that Binns will miss the entire season due to tears of the MCL and ACL.

    Binns Out For Season

There's a pretty big thread of articles speculating on what Miami will do now that he is out. Free Agency is sparse, and there is a good chance that some guys on the bubble now have a real shot at making the final 53. Unfortunate for Binns, of course, but it could be the big break somebody needs to show their stuff.

  10. With the 25th pick, the Patriots will attempt to fill the void left by Hernandez by drafting TE Jordan Cameron. It's a bit of a gamble, but he shows promise and the athleticism necessary to get the job done.

  11. Bullshit. THAT'S annoying. People who really believe in their abilities don't feel the persistent need to tell everyone about it.

Not always true. When I was in Afghanistan I briefed fighter pilots every day. Trust me, they won't hesitate to remind you how bad ass they are. In almost all cases, though, it's simply the truth. The slightest error in the cockpit can equal a crisply folded flag being shipped home. They have to reassure themselves, sometimes loudly, that they won't be next.

I think the same psychological phenomenon affects professional athletes. It's do or die, and when you're part of such an elite percentage of human beings, it's human nature to strut and talk yourself up. I'm not saying I really approve of the "I'm sexy and I know it" approach, but I think it's kind of natural in such a dog eat dog, testosterone driven career field.

  12. Based on how Odrick performs at DT, I wouldn't be completely opposed to Starks or Soliai going on the block. Based on no deal getting done with Starks, I'm beginning to think he's the lesser favorite anyway. Not sure what we could get out of a deal involving him, but he's 29 so he still has a little gas in the tank.

  13. This isn't even close to being as sad as another article quoting teen girls who think there's no way Tsarnaev could be a terrorist because they thinks he's hot...and everyone knows terrorists can't be sexy.

If that logic doesn't take the cake, I don't know what does. Perhaps someone should teach those girls what social engineering is. Pretty sure Quasimoto doesn't get the "flirt for information" roles...
