    2014 MLB Season Thread

Yep Fielder could very well be out the rest of the season. Also of note today: Moustakas got sent down and Wandy Rodriguez got DFA. I knew Moustakas had struggled but didn't realize Wandy had regressed as much as he has.
  3. YEARS ago when I loss prevention was part of my main duties where I was working I had one cashier who in the span of 3 shoppers let more than $900 dollars sneak past her register. It was on Christmas eve and one of the main items was an XBox (one of the original ones). Initially we were aware of the guy with the XBox and from his behavior expected him to sneak out with it......we were shocked when the cashier didn't even ring it up but put it in the bag along with several other items. We realized the extent of everything after trying to verify EXACTLY what was rang up and what wasn't on that transaction. The guy was already on probation and hadn't long been out of prison. The two people from the other two transactions directly before that (where she underrang) weren't arrested immediately but those two spent Christmas eve and Christmas morning (from what i was told) in jail. To steal from most companies is pure lunacy. You may get away from it the first time but most of the time you will get sloppy and get caught fairly rapidly. Trust me hidden cameras and fiber optic ones are more prevalent than many realize and many companies keep 30-60 days worth of digitally archived video before erasing them. And over $900 is definitely a felony unless things have changed (at one time it was $300).

Update: Charges Against Greg Hardy Dismissed

My GUESS is before it is all over it will be ruled that both parties were drunk, she sometime in the night fell down (whose fault will probably never be determined) and that he will not be guilty of domestic violence simply because of the lack of evidence. What really happened will probably never be publicly known. Domestic violence is a bad thing, but too many times it gets totally thrown on the man when the woman was the one who was at fault and the man was just trying to defend himself (NOT saying that is the case here but just saying that it happens more than many people would think).

What Did You Spend Your Money on Today?

I won't lie...we are always tight on money. It ONLY gets spent on bills (including doctor visits and meds), food and gas (and occasionally clothes/shoes for the kids). We probably only eat out 5 times most month and then generally only when I am stuck out of town at the doctor. I guess you could say that the internet/cable tv bills (which we just got cable back last month) are entertainment but that would probably be the extent of entertainment.

    2014 MLB Season Thread

My first instinct was to off the cuff say the Yankees. While their pitching stinks overall tbh the Yanks don't really have tons in their farm system that will probably interest the already farm-rich Cubbies. So I am leaning toward either the Orioles or the Blue Jays, or even the Red Sox IF (and only if) they stay as close as they are for another month. With that said it is more likely that some contender has a major injury to a key starter and has to make the tough decision to pick him up (and pay highly for him). I think that type of scenario is most likely.

    The Real Draft Thread

TBH I think he should had been drafted by somebody (which he was) although he is imho a classic 'tweener'. If he hadn't been drafted by the Rams then I was half thinking that the Falcons might would have taken a shot on him. I do think that St. Louis was the best location for him though since he played college ball there more or less.

    Which Team/s Hit Homers?

TBH I am very pleased with what the Falcons have done so far. Although on the surface it looks like they may not had addressed the need for an edge pass rusher don't forget that they should be getting Biermann back, Perhaps one of the three of Massaquoi, Maponga, or Goodman is ready to take the next step too. If the big guys tie up the middle better it SHOULD help the edge rushers in theory (lol okay the more i think about that last statement the more unlikely it does sound). But as many others have said I like the draft of the Texans so far as well.

Interesting bits on Southward that I had missed before: http://draft.atlantafalcons.com/southward-shined-during-his-pro-day/ http://draft.atlantafalcons.com/southward-brings-versatility-toughness-to-defensive-backs/ nfl.com calls Southward one of the Ten plug-and-play starters of day 2 http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000349145/article/ten-plugandplay-starters-from-day-2-of-the-nfl-draft

    Stevie Johnson traded to 49ers

My only dislike about Johnson is that at times he has had some critical mistakes/ drops. Of course I don't mind anyone making those as long as they play for the 49ers LOL.

    The Real Draft Thread

TBH I like the Falcons draft picks so far. Will the first three selections live up to their potential this season? LOL not sure but if they do then the Falcons have addressed some needs which I like to see them do. On another note don't look now but the Texans still have NOT selected a QB which means my prediction they will end up with Aaron Murray is at least a possibility (growing stronger too). Of course they might take one of several including McCarron or Savage (but imho for what little it is worth Murray will be the one).

    The Real Draft Thread

I know I am NOT the biggest football expert here but it wouldn't be surprising to me that before it is all over with Aaron Murray ends up with the Texans. I don't think they will pick him early in the 2nd round, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was taken late 2nd or early 3rd. I think he could find success there with the defense the Texans should have.

    Your plans for the draft?

My internet/phone/cable all went out as part of a large outage in the area by Mediacom around 6pm yesterday and didn't come back on until sometime after midnight. By that time I was already in bed with no ideal of whom anyone had drafted (my cell phone coverage is poor at my house with virtually zero downloadable internet on my phone if not connected to my wifi). Woke up (as I sometimes do) around 4 something this morning and finally started seeing who drafted whom.

    Russia and Crimea

I will readily admit that this is a touchy situation...to begin with I doubt seriously we (the American public) have all the facts. I will say that it doesn't surprise me that Russia has went into Crimea with troops. There are stronger Russian ethnic ties there compared to some of the other parts of the Ukraine as well as the resources and infrastructure there is important to Russia (major ports on the Black Sea for instance). Obama claimed before hand there would be significant costs for Russia if they sent in their military which is now happening. I think Obama has very little cards that he can or will play. Once again Putin has shown that he cares little what the 'rest of the world' thinks and is being aggressive any chance he gets. The biggest thing I am afraid of is that other countries (most notably North Korea) will continue to downgrade their opinion of this current administration and perhaps start something major. I have no real clue what we should do about the situation (if anything) but I feel as something have started rolling that may end up becoming an avalanche of events over the course of time. http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/ukraine-crisis/russias-upper-house-approves-putins-military-intervention-plan-n41861 http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/ukraine-crisis/russias-upper-house-approves-putins-military-intervention-plan-n41861 http://news.msn.com/world/russia-sent-several-hundred-troops-into-ukraine-us-official?ocid=ansnewrel1

In 3 days, Johnny Football will be a __________.

LOL I fully expect him to be an overhyped soon to be proven failure no matter where he goes. But it does seem that the gambling management style of the Cowboys is a 'perfect' match for Manziel setting up a 'perfect' failure.

    A Message

Let me say that I fully realize it is doubtful that many of you will take the time to watch this fairly lengthy video, but to me it was a very well delivered message. Perhaps after watching the video you will agree with me to some extent at least. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phVakkGSle0 For those who have never heard of him Ravi Zacharias is a Christian apologist. He spends a lot of time on various University campuses throughout the world debating and defending his faith in Christ. The link above isn't one of the debates but instead is a message that he delivered in 2013.

How Many Pro Athletes Are Younger Than You?

Derek Lilliquist of the Cards. I had a few classes with him although tbh I was much closer to Cris Carpenter who was also a former baseball first round draft pick. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derek_Lilliquist http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cris_Carpenter both guys were big time competitors and excelled at the college level. Lil hit two dingers in one game when he started for the Braves. Carp shot a lot of pool with me at times (I was on the UGA billiards team and finished 5th in the southeast ACUI 8 ball tourney in 1987). I also watched more than a few games with Jim Callis who is big time baseball writer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Callis But in all honesty I haven't spoken to any of those 3 in at least a dozen years. Everyone just kinda goes there on way and gets busy with the business of life. The student athlete at UGA I was probably closest to was Willie Anderson. But I haven't spoken to him or his brother Shandon in over 10 years either. Willie played 1st base on our intramural softball team (we finished in the final 4 all 4 years I was there...one time having 5 ex-uga baseball players on the team including one that had been drafted by the braves before he tore up his arm). Lots of good times at college. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willie_Anderson_(basketball) I will say that I have never understood 'hero' worship that some people put on athletes.....they are just normal people with normal flaws. God just blessed them with special abilities to play certain sports.

How Many Pro Athletes Are Younger Than You?

u must be around the same age as my oldest son...his results were: 2.5 percent of NFL players 9.8 percent of NBA players 15.1 percent of NHL players 1.6 percent of MLB players 22 turning 23 in August? His birthday is in late July when he too will turn 23.
