    Prop 8 and the SCOTUS

Ideally for me, the government should not be involved in the marriage business. It should be left to the two individuals who would like to enter into a covenant. They should be permitted to do so on their own or through their Church. However, while the government is involved, they MUST extend licenses to gay couples. Refusal to do so is discrimination in the same way that denying interracial couples would be. DOMA is unconstitutional beyond belief because not only is it discriminatory, but it is also an example of a federal overstep. Prop 8 is also unconstitutional because the State of CA is bound to the Constitutional amendments and discriminating goes against the 14th Amendment. America is ready for it. Both of these laws need to be struck down.

Update: Brian Urlacher, Bears unable to reach deal

The Bears are a cheap-ass franchise, and I am not saying that because of this. I have been saying it for years. I thought it would get better when they fired Jerry Angelo, but it really hasn't.

Update: Brian Urlacher, Bears unable to reach deal

Will be weird with him not on the team. He has been a member of the team since I became a fan. It was a great run and I wish him luck.

  7. This speech was amazing. Republicans better heed his advice, or they'll keep losing. Rand's on our side.

    My Logos

Just playing around because I like the idea of a state behind a sports logo. Yeah, some of them don't turn out so well, but I like the ones that do.

Yep, and every step of the way the German people gave him as much power as he wanted because they trusted him. I can't even believe we are arguing this right now. Checks on the executive are an integral part of the system and all that is required to understand that giving power to one person is dangerous is basic human logic.

Would you have trusted Hitler to not do what he did? I am not saying we are going to elect Hitler, but the way he came to power was because of thought processes like yours.

Who said you can't have your opinion? We are simply refuting and giving our opinions. I know I can speak for myself when I say that I am very passionate about this and that is why I may seem to be a little harsh, but you can still give your opinion. The bottom line is that freedom is a beautiful thing. Many people in the world can only dream of being able to tell a cop, "No, you cannot come into my car" or getting a trial when the government suspects you of a crime. When we take away these freedoms, what makes us different than some of the most human rights-abusing countries in the world? And to see you guys putting so much trust in one person is sad. I am sure Obama is a great guy, but there is a reason that the founders wanted checks and balances. They were coming from places where one person or family had ultimate power, and as the saying goes, "absolute power corrupts absolutely." Maybe not now or in the next 50 years even, but if you continue to give absolute power to the President, a person with bad intentions will win the Presidency and realize that they are unchecked. Like Reagan said, we will then "spend our sunset years telling our children and grandchildren what it was once like in these united states, where men were free." I know I sound like I am fear mongering, but we have an intricate system of checks and balances for an important reason.
  16. Alright, so I am in a political discussion group, and recently a radical social conservative was added. Discussions had with him led me to really look into what the Bible says about gay marriage. There are some verses that condemn it, namely in Leviticus and Romans. However, some further reading and searching led me to four verses that suggest that homosexuality MAY not be a sin, including one from Matthew, known as a book that is practically from Jesus himself. In addition, I have included three related verses. I am interested in what you all thought of this. The common understanding is that Christians should stand firm against homosexuality, but could the way that the Bible has been interpreted thus far have biases and prejudices covering the real interpretation? Do you believe these verses actually sympathize with homosexuality or no? I am just hitting the surface of a new "progressive Christianity" journey I have been on, so I am new to all of this. I am also especially intrigued to see what DMac will have to say.

    Live by the border?

Lol I was genuinely concerned. No need for the sarcasm. But yes, that makes it much worse. That includes NYC, LA, Boston, Philly, Miami, Houston, SFO, Portland, DC, Oakland, etc. :(

    Live by the border?

This includes: Buffalo NY, Rochester NY, Detroit MI, Cleveland OH, Seattle WA, San Diego CA, and Tuscon AZ. This is absurd. Our rights are disappearing by the day. It makes me very, very sad.

I don't want to live on this planet anymore. Take me somewhere where people still value basic human freedoms and actually question things once in a while. EDIT: I meant to neg you. The things you are saying are absurd and make me lose faith in this country.

The President is not judge, jury, and executioner. If he is, then this is no longer a free country. I am sorry, but free countries don't give their leader the power to hand out the death penalty to whomever he wants. That is a power that can be substantially abused and puts the country at risk of losing all of the freedoms that we have gained over the past two and one half centuries.
