    Anyone play Football?

I played in junior high and high school. I was pretty good. When I was a senior I played nose guard on D and guard on offense. On defense, I'd destroy any attempt to run at me and teams usually ran outside after that. Offensively, I shut down every big-time defensive tackle I faced during the year. I was 6'2, 220 pounds, so I was actually a lot smaller than many of the guys I played against. I still kicked most of their asses. A good buddy of mine was a monster lineman for an opposing team. We always had good battles. Unfortunately, my teammates sucked...so yeah. Received several awards and consistent praise from opposing players and coaches, but not winning sucked.

    McNabb to Minnesota?

Your homerism is hilarious. The team isn't that bad...

Visanthe Shiancoe: Vikings have to go with a veteran quarterback

While it's not good to openly admit you have no confidence in your young quarterbacks, it's good to see that he just wants to win. Kudos to Shank.

Marion Barber not expected back in Dallas

I'd love to see him released and then restructure his contract to a fitting bill for a closer, which he would return to. He would be his old monster again. He can't handle the load. It's been clear for ages.

Where Did You/Do You Want To Go To College At?

I am in my fourth year at the University of North Dakota. Our hockey team is better than yours. I'm majoring in English with an emphasis on Creative Writing. I'm one of the better undergraduate creative writers at this University. I hope to pursue writing as I start farming this spring. It'd be the perfect life for me. I'd be doing the kind of work I love during the summer, writing minimally, and when stuff slows down during the winter, I could concentrate on writing. I love life.

    McNabb to Minnesota?

I think McNabb's done, but this would more than likely put them comfortably in second in the division with the possibility of challenging for the title.

Seeds 2-4 still open in the West

The Thunder match up with everyone now that they have Perk. They will make some noise this year. Expect a trip to the WCF.

    Stephen Garcia suspended indefinitely

Yeah, who knows what his issues are? He's got some talent, and potential, so I'm intrigued by what he could be in the NFL, but who knows if he'll see a football field again?

    The Last Cowboy

Here's the intro to my new fiction piece. I have no idea if it will remain the intro though. I should be able to play around with the structure of this piece. Please comment. It's short. The Last Cowboy If the rain would end, so could Jake’s harvest season. But it wouldn’t. Over and over again, water would appear between his pinto bean rows. Over and over again, the river would rise and ravage the line fences of his pasture, where his cattle needed a month more to graze. The rain had also prevented him from hauling all his bales. They sat in highway ditches, alfalfa fields, and on the stubble of the wheat he’d managed to thrash. The workload piled up as water pooled up. At the moment, Jake was fixing his chisel-plow. Each shank had to be rotated so he’d be able to tear up all the wheat stubble when the fields dried up. Arlen, his hired man, had put new shanks on three weeks ago. Each shank required two bolts and two nuts and Arlen had used bolts that were too long. Threads stuck out a half and inch past the nut and the rocky groud had stripped the threads on nearly every bolt. Jake had to use a hacksaw to remove nearly every bolt, turning a half hour job into three grueling hours. He was angry. The rain didn’t help. The day had brought scattered showers, but the sky remained grey throughout. The sun had become an illusion.

    The Last Cowboy

Understandable. I'm possibly going to put this near the end of the story. I'm going to try a structure I've pulled off once before. The end of the story first, then the beginning. It's an interesting format.

    McShay & Kiper Mock Drafts

Why does it seem that Dallas is going to pass on Prince? I do not understand this.

Which team sport relies the most on individual talent?

It's way different from basketball or soccer players shooting one at a time. His teammates don't pass him the damn bat or throw the ball to him. Crimony.

Which team sport relies the most on individual talent?

Excuse me? It's baseball, hands down. Why? Because each player has his own zone on defense. It's not like basketball, where you can help your lesser defenders. Each of these guys has to have the individual talent to control their area. Plus, a good pitcher is sometimes all you need to become a legitimate contender (didn't any of you watch the Rangers last year?) Offensively, it's only one player at a time coming up to bat. It's not like it's a collective attack, like basketball. Baseball requires individual talent more than any other sport. By a great margin.
  18. See, this is the real problem with our tax system. It's not that the wealthy get taxed more than everybody else, as the Republicans claim. It's that the middle class, who is doing all the work, pays the good majority of the taxes. We don't need to take care of the wealthy because we already are. It's time we restructured our tax system so that it actually does tax the wealthy the most. They can take the damn hit.

    Rams to pursue Sidney Rice

In other news, NFL teams often pursue positions of need. Well, except the Bills, who drafted an RB in the first round when they were already stacked at the position.

    The Sin Bin

Pros: 1. Believable characters. Most get far too into the game to realize when they make mistakes. Few act like Richards, so only one player accepting his penalty was very realistic. 2. Good dialogue. 3. Tremendous diction. The variety of words is very interesting. Sports heighten the emotions. Emotions are very complex, so the descriptive language works well. 4. The penalty box is a character. I love that 5. You avoided using hockey jargon. When students try to write sports stories, they often use terminology that many readers won't understand. Cons: 1. The sentences get too long, at times. Separate some of the thoughts into two sentences. 2. Hockey takes a physical toll and these guys have to sit down and feel their bumps and bruises. Describe some pain for each character. Overall, a very good read and much better than most of what I have to suffer through in my own fiction class. This should workshop well.
