  1. I sure missed a good back-and-forth there

The debate between Ngata and blots covers a very important base--accountability for bullying behavior. The reaction, public shaming, etc. should be the same for any bully, regardless of their race, sex, sexual orientation, etc.

There should not be any special groups that are considered exceptions to our expectations of individual and/or collective conduct.

  2. Yeah, the Jesus painted by the liberals right now is hilariously inaccurate.

Back on topic, I think there's a kind of fiscal conservatism that resembles financial responsibility much more so than greed.

Case in point, imagine someone who wants to both provide themselves financial security and ensure they can continue to donate to the charities of their choice for the years to come. That person likely doesn't want high taxes. I think you're associating fiscal conservatism with greed when really it's about not allowing the government to take more money from us that we can reasonably part with. I for one am bit hard every tax season, and I don't even make 75K. I sure hope to see a difference with Trump's tax cuts (I doubt it, though).

  3. Sure you can. Conservative in the sense of what the government takes from you, but you better damn well make a bunch of charitable donations. If I were wealthy, I'd prefer to get to choose where I make my donations than have it taxed out of me.

I think everybody here is intelligent enough to have questions about "God" but nobody is so anti-religion that they look down on religious folks.

We're very centrist on many issues, which in my opinion speaks well for the overall intelligence of this collective.

  4. No guns unless you have a damn good reason for it. And no "I need to protect my family if a burgler comes" isn't one. Stories like that are massive outliers. The "good guy with a gun" is a myth.

In the very unlikely scenario that someone breaks into your house, by law you must be completely helpless!

  5. Suicide rates are lower in countries with stricter gun control. Turns out suicide is often a rash decision and not having a super easy way to kill yourself in your house gives you more time to change your mind.

This would require a ban of common firearms. People aren't blowing their heads off with automatic weapons.

  6. I think extensive background checks are our best option--2 week waiting period, but no more than that. I don't think banning anything will cause anything but constant uproar until it's rescinded.

The only worry I have about a waiting period is the inefficiency of our government, especially when it comes to bureaucracy . Pretty soon the wait would be several months.

  7. Because they've purchased enough of our representatives to ensure that American policies on the topic do not follow public opinion. When the voters go to vote on those representatives that are ignoring public opinion, the NRA and Co (AFP, Heritage, etc) run ads unrelated to the issue in an attempt to keep the rep in office. If they aren't successful, they just buy the next guy.

This is not the case with Planned Parenthood, where public opinion is indeed on PP's side.

Can you honestly say that you think our policies should follow public opinion when you look around and listen to all these idiots in the media and regular old citizens on social media blathering on and on about issues they don't really understand?

If we can somehow get through this period of utter mindlessness without severe consequences in terms of rights, we'll be very, very lucky.

  8. What exactly is included in humanities? Logic classes, critical thinking courses, philosophy, art? To argue that all of those aren't legitimate is foolish indeed.

There are absolutely too many people taking those courses, but a society with no artists, philosophers, and just generally people who use logic and reason is a society that will go downhill very fast. To claim they are "not even legitimate" is way too far.

I think of those things as liberal arts majors. Granted, perhaps I'm thinking Humanities are something other than what they are. I thought the Humanities included all the useless Gender Theory and Feminist courses that don't teach anything verified as factual and instead indoctrinate students into the preferred line of thinking
