"Until we cure literally 100% of people affected by a disease, we haven't figured out how to treat it." I am not saying that literally everyone who uses hormone therapy lives happily ever after. But acting like transitioning itself is the issue that causes trans people to commit suicide, rather than the frankly disgusting way the political right and their base treats trans people, is just mind-bogglingly head-in-the-sand stupid.

When you are bullied day in and day out for something that- regardless of what you think of trans people- is simply a facet of your own identity, and you already have issues with your mental state, given that it doesn't match your physical one, this can drive plenty of young people to suicide.

These are the exact same arguments that people used against homosexuality, and in 50 years it will be seen in the same light and for what it really is. A dying set of "traditional" values disguising hatred towards a group of people that has zero effect on your life.

I notice you didn't answer my questions about how you're gonna know what pronoun they should use. Because all you actually care about is how they look, not who they were at birth. You think its weird for a masculine looking man to dress in women's clothes. But when a dude walks into the bathroom and looks like a dude, even if he was born female, you don't care because it doesn't make you uncomfortable. It would in fact make the women uncomfortable if he did use the women's bathroom.

You do realize that the majority of this "bullying and hatred" from the right wing is a constructed perception used as a political device by the left wing, right? It's their go-to line when right wingers don't get in line immediately on every ridiculous idea Democrats have to address social issues.

You look at what most right wingers are actually doing and saying on trans issues, and you find it comes from logical questions that come to mind. Even the hated guys like Ben Shapiro aren't saying things worth getting riled up over.

Also, define bullying, because we've all known people who took the slightest thing and claimed it was bullying. Trans people are already insecure and susceptible to suicidality. Is it not possible that they perceive a lot of bullying that isn't actually there, or isn't intent to be bullying? Let's actually look at trans interaction with non-trans people and try to find out how much bullying actually occurs, what kinds of bullying occurs, and then let's address the actual problem instead of just taking their word 100% and creating legislation with a vast, overreaching umbrella that sets dangerous precedents and will never make it into law.

I mean, would you not agree that bullying in general is ridiculously overstated? Look in our workplaces--most reported bullying comes from lazy and/or incompetent people. You can call that a blanket statement that can't be proven if you want to, but if you've worked with a crew of more than 10 people, you've seen it firsthand.

I'm not using wrong or made-up pronouns. I'll just address the individual by name.

So what you're just gonna ask them what they have between their legs before deigning to call them female or male pronouns?

What would you call an actual intersex person?

The medical community has stopped trying to treat it because we found out how to treat it. We let them transition so they are more comfortable in their body.

Until hormone therapy and catering to delusion actually curbs the suicide rate among trans folks, we haven't figured out how to treat it.

I believe you have fallen for the idea that is being pushed by the right-wing here. Yet more scare tactics from them. No one is arguing that gender is the same as sex. No one is claiming a biological woman can become a biological man. What we are saying is that what you identify as can be different than what you biologically are. You are correct that a biological male cannot become a biological woman. What is more, no one is attempting this argument. It is a strawman.

It is in fact imperative to know that one cannot change your biological sex as a fact, for medical reasons. Some friends I have in the medical field tell stories all the time of trans people telling the doctor what gender they are instead of what sex they are. Your body reacts differently to different things and you are at a higher risk for certain things as a woman than as a man and vice versa. This is your sex and its not changeable. It is not the same thing as your gender, which is.

In essence you are arguing that gender must be the same as sex, and then making your argument assuming the two terms are interchangeable. They are not the same thing. Again, it does not hurt you in the slightest to call someone by the pronouns they wish to use. Trying to use the government to legalize discrimination against a very small minority is shameful, but it is what entities backed up by the political right try to do on a near daily basis.

I'm not saying I'd actually be rude and mean to a transgender person. That being said, I would refer to them by name and not use pronouns at all if asked to use a pronoun contradictory to their biological sex, or a pronoun contradictory to reality (the ridiculous x and z pronouns), or a plural pronoun such as "they." Not going to happen. Reality for others doesn't change based on delusions that our medical community has stopped trying to treat after years of no real answers found.

The scientific stance, you mean. As in, what actually are the facts on the subject at hand.

Look you can disagree with certain shit, for sure. But reality is reality, no matter how much you might wish otherwise, or think those people are icky, or what have you.

Gender is different than sex according to basically all prominent psychological organizations. People who get upset at other people identifying as a different gender are almost always doing so because they are trying to strip trans people of basic rights. Thus why the Trump admin is trying to re-define gender to be based on the sex organs you have at birth. Newsflash: You have almost certainly been in a bathroom with a trans person and didn't know it.

There's a significant difference between the absurd idea that gender has nothing to do with biology and the progressive insistence that the concept of gender identity dictates reality.

"Reality is reality"? I'm not sure what you're getting at there. A biological male can't be a woman, and vice versa. Some of us are never going to pretend otherwise for the sake of feelings.

It isn't though. To me there is no argument. A vast majority of the time they are the same thing.

Me and Razor most likely disagree on that but I would hardly say we are at each other's throats.

It really is. And knowing that the progressive stance on it is total nonsense is supposedly offensive

  6. Super pissed about today's loss, and it falls at Zimmer's feet because his defense is loaded but they don't produce. This is the second backup QB who looked like a good QB against this defense.

Check that, the third because Case Keenum is also backup quality.

Chase Daniel, even though he's pretty clearly better than Trubisky, is a backup quarterback. Matt Moore is a career backup.

I'm so tired of this team. We get the QB going and the star-studded defense falters.

  7. Stone Cold Lock(s): Harrison Smith, Anthony Barr (so long as Barr maintains his level of play)

Had potential but is slowing down: Xavier Rhodes. If he regains form and carries it for 2-3 more seasons, I think he has a chance. I don't see it happening, though. I think he's washed.

Young but with the potential: Dalvin Cook, Danielle Hunter, Stefon Diggs, Adam Theilen. MAYBE Eric Kendricks

  8. Reactions from Night 1, 10/22:

Is Fred Vanvleet a potential star in this league? I don't want to overreact to one game by any stretch, but since the ECF last year, he's playing at a completely different level. He's likely too small to find ways to score high totals when his 3s aren't falling, but he's a pitbull who will find other ways to contribute.

Toronto needs to commit to the defensive side of the ball in order to have any chance at repeating in the Eastern Conference. Even of they do, Siakam has to take another step offensively. He had 34 last night. We shall see.

Not a good look for LeBron and AD to lose to Kawhi + role players.

  9. I did not think Darrius Shepherd would get a single UFA phone call, let alone make an NFL roster. Easily the least talented NDSU player to ever play in the league. That being said, he was wide open to tie the game against Philly when Rodgers forced it to MVS (Rodgers himself noted this mistake). I don't fault him for the INT--he slipped and that shit happens to everybody. He certainly needs to not muff another punt, though. I'm honestly wondering if they'll cut him.

The only non-QB skill player from NDSU that's ever had a chance at an NFL career was John Crockett, who the Packers also had.

  10. Are Democrats primarily responsible for the current overregulation of the over the road/long haul trucking industry? Because some of the after effects of that are a prime example of good intentions with horrific unseen consequences.

Democrats throw their capes on, come in to save the day, then leave everything in a state of FUBAR and noticeably worse off than it ever was. IE: poor communities in most major cities.

  11. One side being clearly better than the other used to be the truth. Now the left just has better promises. Problem is, there's no budgetary feasibility that comes with those promises that doesn't involve taxing the shit out of the middle class. The right says, "hang on a minute, we can't possibly afford that" and then they all get thrown in the same bowl as someone like Mitch McConnell, who I consider the worst of the worst hard right.

  12. The officiating is bad, but the rulebook is the size of a Bible. It's time to shrink the rulebook and streamline all reviews. It's also time to mandate minimal flags. It sucks to watch a game with more flags on the field than football being played.

  13. It fits their preferred narrative of Trump doing unprecedented things, which is obviously false. You can't combat evil with lies and expect the American public to get in line with you. We might be unfathomably unintelligent as a whole, but there are enough smart voters (which consists of everybody in this thread, regardless of disagreements) to know bullshit when we see it. The irony is that each side points out bullshit with more bullshit.

  14. Years from now, History books will be unkind to Trump for obvious reasons. Here's to hoping they're as unkind to all the petulant, whiny, violent protesters we see in this country these days. But of course, they'll likely be portrayed as heroes, even if they're all cowards. That poor bastard who had someone spit in his face in Minneapolis. I'd love to give him 5 minutes alone with the prick who spit on him. He'd likely be kind to the asshole, mind you, but our world could use a little more frontier justice.

I mean, seriously, these protesters can't even articulate what they're upset about. A good 99% of them are just sheep following the shepherd of fabricated, practically non-existent problems, or false equivalences, such as LGBTQ people facing discrimination similar to black people in the past (yawn--it's not similar. We all know that). We're seeing resistance mostly to the absolutely, 100% crazy elements of their group (which consists of a very small portion of LGBTQ people). Take the forthcoming SCOTUS decision regarding trans discrimination. One of the cited cases is a funeral home being unwilling to let a man wear dresses while at work, looking strange and out of place while a grieving family is trying to focus on final care for their deceased loved one. When the employee refused to comply with wearing sex-appropriate clothing, they fired him. And rightfully so.

You can do and be whatever you want on your own time. If your workplace has reasonable expectations of you, you comply or deal with the consequences.

  15. He didn't really deserve it until the end of the season given how bad they are talent wise but oh well. Thing is, why make Callahan interim coach instead of the young OC? Makes no sense. You're not going to hire Bill Callahan as your head coach after the season.
