Greatest Team Tournie: Round 1, Day 3

Normally I do a quick briefing, but I just got Persona 5 Royal today so.... here are my picks: 1984 Dolphins, both teams had absurdly high powered offenses for their days, but the Dolphins defense back then wasn't an active liability like the Vikings were. Give me them in a close one. The 2011 Giants were actually a decent well rounded team, and peak Eli was more than enough to handle business. The 2015 Panthers were good, but I'd give the edge to the team that took out a lopsided 15-1 team in the playoffs before. The Rams and Pats were neck and neck for me, I almost had to flip a coin, but I think they were a lot better as a team, and both squads were dangerously close to having alternative outcomes in their super bowl games. I preferred the 2015 iteration to the 2013 iteration of the Broncos, because amazing defense gets the upper hand on amazing offense. Handholding Peyton was the best thing the Broncos ever did.

Greatest Team Tournie: Round 1, Day 2

And my thoughts: The first match is really close, the Raiders were at the peak of their dynasty, Ken Stabler had his best season and that defense was stout. The Vikings don't match up in the skill positions in level of talent, but their trenches were insane on both sides, and that's how they walked into a super bowl berth. I took the Vikings cause I love me some trench warfare. The Cowboys may have been starting their decline in 1995, but they still had more raw talent than every other team in the league, and that's why they won a super bowl. The 09 Vikings were a really strong team, they had good balance on both sides of the ball, and they were an overtime period away from being the NFC reps in the 2009 super bowl. I think these Cowboys edge out the Vikings. So fun fact about the 1986 Bears, they actually gave up less points per game than their 1985 counterparts. The big difference in the results? Healthy Jim McMahon, and they played an actual QB in the 86 playoffs. Their defense was stellar, but their offense was all on Walter Payton. Compared to the balanced 1990 Bills, I don't think they stand a chance. Even if the Bears were to hold them to 17, the Bears couldn't score that many on that Bills team. Not with Bruce Smith and that front seven providing disruption. And for the last one, well the Colts by the Jim Caldwell days were carried by how far Peyton Manning could drag them on his tired old back. Which turned out to be pretty far, as they made the Super Bowl, and were in it until an untimely pick six at the end. The Broncos were a more balanced team, with a healthy running game, stout defense, and just a more physical squad overall. Plus they sealed the deal, even after being a wild card team.

Greatest Team Tournie: Round 1, Day 1

My thoughts: The 92 49ers had a case to be the best team in football the year they played, they just came up against a stronger team in the 92 Cowboys. Their offensive output was insane, and I think it puts them over a team that while having a great defense, definitely overachieved to make it to the super bowl. The 2016 Falcons had an incredible offense led by an MVP caliber player, but ultimately fell just short in the last game of the season when their defense gave up a 25 point lead with a quarter and a bit to go. The 2017 Eagles had an incredible offense led by an MVP caliber player... but he got hurt, the rest of the team stepped up, and Nick Foles decided to play like an MVP in the finale. This one isn't a contest to me. I think the 71 Cowboys and 88 Bengals are actually pretty closely matched. The Bengals were 30 seconds away from winning a super bowl with their high powered offense, while the Cowboys had an all time great at QB and a swarming defense. I leaned toward the Bengals because that offense was so impressive, but that may just be me. Lastly the 12 Ravens and the 04 Steelers. The Ravens actually went 9-2 to start their season, before taking a 1-4 slide in December. Fortunately for them, the AFC was fairly top heavy that year so they settled into the 4th seed without incident, and then Joe Flacco went god mode on Ray Lewis' retirement tour. The 04 Steelers came out of nowhere, going 15-1 thanks to a smothering defense and a healthy load of Jerome Bettis and Duce Staley in the backfield. Unfortunately, they met their match in the Patriots who easily confused the rookie Big Ben and gave him the first loss of his career. This one is also a close match for me, but I feel like the Steelers defense would harass Flacco far more than that Ravens squad would harass Roethlisberger.

they should be coughed on and if they get corona, they don't get medical treatment. Sounds reasonable to me.
  21. We just have to make sure people get infected at a slower steadier rate, enough so the hospitals and clinics can handle the cases at a reasonable pace. It's going to take a while for herd immunity to work, unfortunately. Because it's not just the people who get the virus who are risk. It's the people who get into accidents and the hospital can't take them in. A mild heart attack that could be fixed with a AED but doesn't happen because first responders can't get there in time. Stay safe Americans, you need to be way more cautious than I am, and I'm already quarantining myself.
