    Your Favorite Vocalist

two guys come to mind immediately, and I'm not sure they could be much more different: Trace Adkins: I'm not sure I need to post any other examples, he's got such a smooth bass voice, I'm not sure there's anyone I could compare it to and that song showcases it better than any other. He's a country artist, which turns a lot of people off, and he does a lot of really weird songs, which turns off even more people, but when he's taking himself seriously nobody's better. I didn't post any other videos but I'd be happy to make some suggestions if anyone wants to check out more of his stuff, if you go through his singles you'll find yourself wading through some weird shit. Brian McNight: Just listen to the videos, the guy's incredibly skilled, I got to see him in concert last summer and it might have been the best concert I've been to.

    2017-18 NBA Season Thread

My favorite suggestion to reduce tanking is to base lottery odds on wins after elimination from playoff contention. With that you still help the bad teams because the worse your team is the more opportunities you'll have to boost that stat, but ultimately you're rewarding wins. Now it doesn't quite account for the truly terrible teams, but it'd be a step in the right direction. I also think you could balance it out in a hybrid system where odds are still partially based on standings, but it would give you what you want, which is a system that would ultimately reward winning games down the stretch.
  12. I couldn't find the thread with earlier videos from Boston Dynamics (if someone can find it please merge this) but they've got one now with robots figuring out doors: and we're all fucked

    Jags extend Bortles - 3YR, $54M

As bad as Bortles is, he's probably one of the top 32 qbs in the league, the jags as currently constructed don't need better than that. This is actually a really cheap deal for a starting qb, and they're only locked in for three years, which opens the door for drafting his replacement at any point.

If you were the GM of the Cleveland Browns

I've never seen numbers, but I doubt there's any causation between draft position and the size of the second contract. I'm sure there's a correlation but I think that's just based on the fact that players drafted higher turn into great players at a higher rate. I can say anecdotally that Antonio Brown was a sixth round pick and he's currently the highest paid wr based on the average yearly value of his contract.
  15. I mean, I'm talking to any free agent before I bring him in, so I don't think it effects free agency as looking as he's got a decent explanation. As for the game, it was close enough that I can't definitively say that sitting Butler didn't impact the outcome.

    2018 Coaching Carousel

okay, so now the carousel has actually stopped, interestingly we have the same number of OCs as DCs getting jobs, though I suppose it skews toward offense when you factor in Gruden, I feel really good about the Titans with Vrabel and LaFleur, though I have a bad feeling LaFleur isn't going to be here very long before someone gives him a HC job

    2018 Coaching Carousel

This feels a little early to put this up, but with McAdoo already fired and the announcement that Lewis is gone at the end of the year I think we can go ahead. This also allows for more speculation in this thread, which is always fun. Feel free to post any theories of who you think is getting canned and who's sticking around. I'll update the original post as firings/hirings become official, which I consider to be when there's an article about it on either NFL.com or the team's official website. McDaniels backs out from Colts HC job

I'm really not surprised, the agent has his own reputation to watch out for, and this could do more harm to him than McDaniels if he doesn't cut ties, though that last note does make things a little weird, wonder if the two knew each other before getting into their professions. I really do think this is professional suicide for McDaniels, let's do this as a thought experiment, suppose you're a GM/owner next season that needs to hire a new coach, do you even bring McDaniels in for an interview? How much does this move impact your decision? I know I wouldn't even consider talking to him after this shit, but I'm not sure I'd hire him anyway given what he did in Denver.

    2018 NFL.com Playoff Challenge

Congrats to Thana on the win, crazy tight three way fought for 2nd (which I say to make myself feel better about finishing 4th out of 6)
  22. Multiple sites host variations of this, but we've done it on NFL.com in the past so it was easy to just reactivate our league here's the link to the group:Group Home - NFL Playoff Challenge - NFL.com password is taco Scoring hasn't changed from last year (and it's set by the website): Passing: 1 point per 25 yards, 4 points per TD, 2 points per 2pt conversion, -2 per INT Rushing/Recieving: 1 point per 10 yards, 6 points per TD, 2 points per 2pt conversion, -2 points per fumble lost, 6 points per fumble recovery TD kicking: 3 points per fg<50 yards, 5 points per fg 50+ yards, 1 point per PAT Defense: 6 points per TD, 2 points per INT, 2 points per fumble recovery, 2 points per safety, 1 point per sack, 5 points per team win; offensive and special teams points allowed: 0=10 points; 1-6=7 points, 7-13=4 points; 14-20=1 point; 21-27=0 points; 28-34=-1 point; 35+=-4 You get to change your lineups before each game, but each player's score is multiplied by the number of consecutive weeks that he's on your roster, so it's beneficial to stick with the same lineup if you can
  23. I'm surprised we don't seem to have a thread on this yet, not sure why I haven't started one. The HOF class will be announced tomorrow, but here's the finalist list: Tony Boselli Isaac Bruce Brian Dawkins Alan Faneca Steve Hutchinson Joe Jacoby Edgerrin James Ty Law Ray Lewis John Lynch Kevin Mawae Randy Moss Terrell Owens Brian Urlacher Everson Walls So who would be your five? Who barely misses the cut? Who shouldn't have made it this far? Go!
