Clausen losing ground to Derek Anderson

Taking Williams in fantasy is risky because of Stewart and Goodson. No idea who is going to get goalline carries. As far as Anderson goes- IMHO, he should be the starter against Arizona. First of all, he was on that team last year, so maybe he has an edge there, and second, he has played pretty darn well in the preseason. Sticking a rookie QB in game one is risky, let the veteran start. He's in the same system as he was when he had his probowl year and it's showing. If you let Cam start, and then pull him to start Anderson, it could have a major impact on him mentally, whereas if Anderson started and then Cam came in midway through the season to relieve him you have a whole different scenario.

    So who wins the South?

Saints. No one wins the South back-to-back, and it's not changing this year.

    Bucs Go Emo...

Yeah, I'm waiting for the Bucs to pick up Sutton. He was the 4th RB, and like Buc said, only reason we cut him was because we just have too many RBs. Blount needs someone to spell him, Sutton would be perfect.

    2011 Bold Prediction Thread

    1. The Panthers take the NFC South. 2. The Lions take the NFC North. 3. Harbaugh leads the Niners to take the NFC West. 4. The Browns take a wildcard in the AFC. As far as the rest of the AFC goes: Predicting the Texans to get in isn't really bold, they're supposed to have been in the playoffs the last 4 or 5 years. Colts don't have enough competition in the South, Pats or Jets take the East, Ravens/Steelers take the North, and San Diego back on top in the West.
  5. Newton has been looking pretty good, and so did Gettis, prior to his likely torn ACL. The surprise has been Clausen, who looks downright solid. Whether or not he gets another shot, I don't know, but he is listed as the #1 QB on the "unofficial" depth chart, for the moment.

    Worst to First candidates

If by this you mean the Panthers will again be in last, I completely disagree with that. (Nice cheap shot at Newton, by the way, I love ESPN's witch hunt of him, despite the NCAA clearing him.) The South is always, always, unpredictable. While I don't see the Panthers doing it, I'd've never thought the other teams in the South, including Carolina, that have done it before, would have done it when they did. If that makes sense. I'm saying that with the South's unpredictability, the Panthers have far more of a shot than any other team here, with the exception of the Cardinals. Arizona just has a horrible division, so they're the easy pick. Were I to pick a #2, it would be Carolina.

David Gettis done with a torn ACL

According to the website, it is only a *likely* torn ACL, he has not been officially diagnosed with one as of yet. Rather disappointing if it is, I was hoping Gettis was going to step up this year.

So, what's your team's record gonna be this season?

After looking through the schedule, a little more detail on why I think we have a somewhere around a 7-9 season. @ Arizona- Win. I don't see the Cards pulling together much of a team, atm. Unless Kolb steps out of nowhere. vs Green Bay- Loss. Not good enough to take down GB, not even at home. vs Jacksonville- Win. The Jaguars only real threat is MJD, I think this is a probable win, especially at home. @ Chicago- Toss up. In Chicago it will be difficult to pick up a win if Cam stumbles in the cold, however, I don't really see Chicago doing much this year. Probably more of a chance for a loss than a win in this one, but it's pretty close. vs New Orleans- Loss. Same reason as GB. @ Atlanta- Loss. Same as above. vs Washington- Win. At home, and the Skins still don't have a QB, among many other problems. vs Minnesota- Win. Again at home, unless the Vikes come out of nowhere this season. That's 4-3 with 1 undecided at the break. vs Tennesee- Another toss up. If CJ is in form, the Titans take this, methinks. @ Detroit- Again, toss up. Detroit's D-line is going to be fiercesome, and I have no problem with someone who thinks the Panthers would lose this one. But its a very winnable game in my opinion. @ Indianapolis- Loss. Same as NO, GB, and ATL. @ Tampa Bay- Loss. Not going to beat the Bucs on their home turf. vs Atlanta- Loss. Still not gonna beat the Falcons on our home turf. @ Houston- Oh boy. Toss up again. The Texans seem to crumble at this point every year. Great offense, horrible defense. vs Tampa Bay- On our turf, it's a different story. Win. @ New Orleans- Loss, with one caveat. If NO has locked up their spot, we could beat their second-string. That leaves us at 5-7 with 4 toss-ups. Win all 4, (unlikely), we're at 9-7. Lose all four and we're at 5-11. I guess that's a good range. I'd be disappointed if we had a worse record than 6-10 and shocked if we had a better one than 9-7. Opinions are welcome, I'd like to see a non-Panther fan's opinion. Am I being way too optimistic, or is this reasonable?

No. 1 pick Newton signs 4-year, $22M deal

Yup, the rookie wage system is great. Now the salary for people who have never even played in the NFL is at least reasonable.

    Panthers interested in Asante

I think Clausen blew his shot. Newton is going to start in game 1, in my opinion. Going against Arizona will be a nice start, and we certainly don't want his first game to be against Green Bay.

Report: Panthers sign QB Derek Anderson

Not that I like this at all, but the one time he did play well, he was playing under the same OC we currently have.

    Panthers sign Legedu Naanee

I do like this signing. Not an elite receiver, but a good slot veteran receiver, someone for Newton to hit on short routes. Smith is still the only deep threat, but Cam now has enough weapons to hopefully make an impact immediately. Looking forward to the season now!

Panthers lose NT Edwards for season

I'm curious why he's still not officially on IR. A torn tricep is not going to heal in one season. I know. I've had one. My arm is still screwed up because of it five years later.

Greatest rivalry in all of sports?

I was just down there at Toomer's Corner. Don't forget about the jackass from Bama poisoning the tree that Auburn generally TPs after a win. They don't think they can save it either. My parents both graduated from Auburn, and they both HATE Bama. I have a friend who was going to Bama, and they were very suspicious of everything she did, pretty much. Comments like, "Well, a Bamer, (I think that's a term completely made up by them), would do x, y, z" were commonplace, even though the only thing they knew about her was that she went to Bama. Right now, there is no more heated rivalry in all of college football.

So, what's your team's record gonna be this season?

6-10/7-9. Probably being a bit optimistic, but it is the NFC South. The worst team always does a lot better, and has won the division 7/9 times the next year. Don't see the latter happening, but with all the nice additions in free agency, (with the exception of DA, ugh), I do see them improving greatly. And, who knows? They might do something this year... that's why you play the games.

Charles Johnson stays with Panthers, gets $32 million guaranteed

... I don't really like this move all that much. Did they really have to pay him that much in order to keep him? Sheesh.

    Panthers re-sign DeAngelo Williams

I agree there. We've made no moves after wide receivers at all. I was hoping for an attempt at Lance Moore, but I guess he wanted to stay with the Saints. We've needed a #2 receiver for a long time- and it was easily apparent after Seattle kicked our butts in the NFC Championship by triple-teaming Smith. David is not the answer, he's a decent #3, but we need another solid WR. Having Shockey might help him out, of course, assuming Shockey steps up to the plate. He is kinda a Receiving TE.

    Panthers re-sign DeAngelo Williams

I believe the logic is to keep the deepest RB core in the league to take pressure off of Newton and/or Clausen, if they give Jimmy another shot. We are spending quite a bit of money though, securing our bases. As Irish said, it's going to be hard to be worse than we were last year. (Also, I am back, and very glad we are having football this year. Was rather worried for a few weeks.)
