I think it makes perfect logical sense. If Trump wins re-election, who's hurt by that? The DNC? Hell no. They get to fan the outrage crowd and continue to garner huge sums of money. The media gets to keep posting his unending ridiculous lies day in and day out and keep people upset, which feeds into it. In almost every other circumstance I would agree it was over. In this case, however, reality has endorsed Bernie Sanders, as someone else put it. He's a crotchety old man, but the voters showed in the primary they agreed with his platform more than Joe's, they were simply convinced Bernie wouldn't beat Trump and that was more important in their choice. I just wish the moderates had chosen basically anyone else. Any other dem, with the sole exception of Bloomberg, was a better choice than Biden. Biden is clearly suffering from the beginnings of dementia. Trump is going to destroy him. I have said in here several times and it bears repeating, the Dems never did a proper post mortem of 2016. They just wanted to yell racism/sexism at the top of their lungs and refused to look into why Hillary lost. And then they went and nominated an arguably worse candidate. I don't think its an exaggeration to say Biden's VP pick is his only shot at winning this thing. I still think his best pick would have been Castro, but since he's shoehorned himself into picking a woman, Warren is his best shot. You have to reach out to disaffected Bernie supporters. I don't know that that does enough, but ignoring them entirely loses you the general hands down.

COVID-19 and the political bitchfest among TGP members
Thanatos replied to BC's topic in The Sideline
The whole wide world is in on it, BC. It's just PE that knows the truth man. -
Has nothing to do with Bernie. Has to do with the DNC forcing people to vote in-person in a pandemic and threatening Wisconsin with losing delegates if they postponed.
-
Biden is going to get annihilated by Trump in the debates. A very large part of me will greatly enjoy that. The Dems are fucking idiots. They would rather have Trump than Sanders, they made their bed, they can lie in it. Biden has a credible rape allegation from Tara Reade as well. I'm not voting for the better of two rapists.

Guess I'm part of the cover-up and conspiracy this time. What are all the doctors and pharmacists in on this one too, PE? -
This vote is hereby declared a fraud.

They should cancel the season. Harsh but true. There exists no scenario where we want thousands of people packed into stadiums in fall, right when covid19 will be back. Will they? Extremely unlikely. But playing entirely without fans, the other possible option, only works so long as none of the players get it. Also not sure how the players would feel about that, given the lack of any sort of HFA then.
-
You believe a bunch of shit without proof. There is no proof of voter fraud or suppression. My counter argument is this: You place entirely too much faith in the average intelligence of any voter, in this case specifically democratic ones. If you really think Bernie has evidence of voter fraud and isn't coming out with it, then you're absolutely right, he's a total moron. People won't vote for this, we've seen it. They like it, they want it, but they aren't ready to risk it. Not yet, at least.

Dr. Fauci and the CDC have got Trump back on board. Social distancing has been extended to at least April 30th and he concedes that if we did not do so, "some people" say we'd have 2.2 million deaths or more. Glad he's listening to Fauci and not Fox News. He is also absolutely correct that if we keep this at 100k or less deaths in the US we will have done a fantastic job containing it. Those would be great numbers, which is of course horrible to consider, but given the horrific scale of this pandemic, 100k deaths only would be a huge victory. I watch Dr. Mike on youtube. If you don't, I highly encourage you to do so. I did so before this thing started and he's a great guy, but all his stuff recently has been on COVID19. He's fact checked politicians of both parties- he specifically singles out Biden and Trump because he considers them the leaders of their parties. He had an interview with Fauci where he said the real danger is this thing likely scales back or disappears in the summer, only to return in the fall. And that we will have a small window to be ready for that. Something I hadn't really considered as a possibility before.

So did I. Ben's a rookie in this hypothetical matchup and Joe Flacco transcended the mortal coil during that run. In fact, I might be voting for 2012 Baltimore all the way through this. The 2012 Baltimore Ravens are the greatest postseason team in history, change my mind.

I mean, except the people didnt get nothing. They get $1200 for each person. That's not nothing.
-
I think it depends entirely on COVID19 at this point. If we do a good job social distancing and stuff and keep deaths down as low as possible, he wins after he destroys Biden in the debates. (Man I wish we could have seen Bernie vs Trump at least one time in a debate.) If COVID19 explodes and kills a million plus people, nothing Trump can say or do will save him.

Right and then the GOP says "The Dems are preventing us from giving money to the people." You have way too high a view of the average person's intelligence. I think basically all of your conspiracy theories are defeated by someone pointing out that the average American voter is pretty ignorant to the goings on of politics.
-
There was no option as AOC explained. The GOP was not going to pass it without their major business bailouts, and for that matter the Dem leadership wanted their own special interest in it as well. It was give some money to the people or give no money to the people.

Lmao. Report now that the PPE Trump and Pompeo sent to China on February the 7th was over 17 TONS. I really don't know how I could even make up shit worse than what he's doing in real life. He's a bumbling idiot who is getting people killed.

COVID-19 and the political bitchfest among TGP members

ICE is still raiding homes and using PPE such as N95 masks to do so. PPE that could be utilized by doctors and nurses. Is it really a critical priority to continue to deport people and break up families in the middle of a global pandemic, especially if by so doing you are using equipment that should be going to doctors and nurses? -

To be clear, you're a cultist because no matter what Trump does you follow him like a sheep, not just because you support Trump. Too many Trump supporters are like you. I think Pelosi was dumb as hell to include green new deal shit in a coronavirus bill, however I see no information that Pelosi and Schumer blocked a bill that had a proposal of 1200 x 2. Mnuchin at one point talked about 1k twice, once in April and once in May, but that never made it into a bill, as far as I can see. Why do you think I don't know about pop up hospitals? How is that at all relevant? Are you saying because we have pop-up hospitals that somehow means we're on top of this? You do know we have to staff them. And that that staff needs PPE? Which we are already running out of? Let everyone back out and they will be overrun. The buildings are like the 3rd problem. Staff is first, then PPE, then buildings. We can always re-purpose dorms and other buildings to use as hospitals if necessary. That's a concern, to be sure, but I think it's the least of the three atm. My best friend's wife and her sister are nurses. Both of them have been dealing with COVID19 patients on a daily basis- with absolutely zero personal protective equipment. It is a matter of time before they get the virus at this point. When that starts happening in earnest, you lose even more medical staff for at least two weeks and the situation just gets worse. -

You keep trumpeting the one good thing Trump did- for which I have repeatedly given him credit. For which- even AT THE TIME- I said he was correct on doing- in fact I wanted him to go further. Also Trump's continued claims that he was attacked for that decision by the entire wing of Democrats is false. Nor did he close the border, as he claims. There were warnings given, but people were not forbidden to travel to China or back from it if they were a US citizen. Two Dems did attack him for it, but neither were candidates or leaders. This was hardly "everyone is calling him racist" as he keeps saying. Many people on both sides saw this coming. It wasn't hard to see. However, he also downplayed the pandemic, said the media and Dems were using it as a hoax, said we were on top of it, that the numbers were going down, that the stock market was looking good to him, etc, etc, etc. Only around like March 10th did he finally get on board and now that Fox News is telling him to re-open he's considering it. If you re-open the economy entirely- unless the situation, for some reason, drastically changes between now and Easter- you will kill millions of people. That is not an option. Trump is talking about packed churches on Easter Sunday. Please tell me you see why that would be a horrible idea. -

Where are you getting this information from? The Dems nixed the original bill because the GOP had a slush fund for big business and gave way too much to the corporations. Democrats, btw, wanted $1,500 a person for at least the next three months. Republicans refused it because Dems were paying for it by taking money away from the corporate bailouts. The GOP is still not giving people on the lower end of the income scale as much as people up near the $75k range. DJT is in a cult. It's hard to find middle ground with cultists. They don't use reason or logic, they just follow Dear Leader wherever he goes. In this case, however, there's a very simple way to prevent a depression and keep practicing social distancing. Pass temporary UBI for the duration of the crisis and stop using the money for corporate bailouts. I'm not saying we need it until the vaccine, but we do need it until hospitals can get on top of things. There is no economy to speak of if hospitals are overrun with patients. -

Do you understand the part where I said 1.3 million people, at minimum, will die if we stop social distancing this soon? We fucked up. The way to slow the virus to a halt to allow somewhat safe renewals of the economy was to take severe action- like what we're doing now- back in January. You know how you fix the issue of the average American being in danger? You freeze rent and mortgages and give everyone in the country 1k/month. Preferably for good, because that's always been the best solution, but at least until we have a vaccine distributed and life can go back to semi-normal. -

There's a lot of GOP breaking with him on it. Lindsey Graham and Liz Cheney for starters. It's very interesting. -
COVID-19 and the political bitchfest among TGP members

Oh, undoubtedly. I mean it would be a sheer numbers game. The people going back to work would disproportionately be Trump supporters, I would think, if medical experts are still saying stay home. I really don't think people get how potentially serious this is. If we end the shutdown on the 12th, which is what Trump is suggesting, the CDC is estimating- with no further social distancing- 40-70% of us get the virus. Going with the total low end of that- 40%- is 131 million people. A 1% mortality rate leaves us with 1.3 million deaths. Would be far worse than that in all likelihood because once the hospitals hit max capacity- they are close in some states, already there in some cities- more people are going to die, not just from COVID19 but from other conditions they cant get treatment for. 10 million deaths just in the US is not out of the question if we do this. This is a virus that is 10 times deadlier than the flu and far more contagious. The rich people wanting us to go back to work en masse to save their stock market can go fuck themselves right off a cliff. -

Too many people will though. If Trump says go back to work we're in trouble. -

A vaccine will lower its levels to far less than the flu. Or so we hope. No one is wanting to entertain your possibility, but its absolutely a possibility. But you are correct that the vaccine will almost certainly not eradicate COVID19. It's going to be harder here too because of all the religious fuckwits that think they should be able to get an exemption for no reason. Right now we are just focused on containing it. If Trump listens to the Fox News talking heads, and I'm worried they are getting to him, and sends America back to work in 8 days, it will be catastrophic. There is a middle ground here, because I agree we can't self quarantine for 18 months, at least not with our current systems. Too many people would get kicked out of homes. But just acting like the worst has passed when the worst has yet to come will kill a lot of people. -
Rand Paul was swimming in the Senate swimming pool, (didnt actually know they had one), the same morning he received word he had tested positive for coronavirus. Thus, given the 3-5 day testing wait time, he was tested sometime on Thursday or Friday at the latest, and kept interacting with Senators, including Mitt Romney, whom he sat next to and so has exposed to it. Romney's wife has MS and coronavirus would be extremely bad for her. So now Romney has isolated while awaiting test results. Rand Paul is a fucking idiot. Also this is a week after Ron Paul said we should ask ourselves whether the coronavirus is a hoax. Just lol. Trump was told Romney was in isolation and responded "Gee that's too bad," with a little smirk on his face. What a fucking asshole. And then there's a city councilman in Oklahoma telling people the virus first goes inside people's nostrils because that's the coldest part of the body, (?) before going to the lungs. He then goes on to claim the virus can't survive 136 degrees, (??), and the way you can get your nose to 136 degrees is by holding a blow dryer in front of your face and inhaling. And that if you do this, you will kill the entire virus before it can do anything. This man is an elected official.
