USFL Poised to become NFL Minor League?

You tore my post apart about as much as Cutler tore the Green Bay secondary apart the other night. You just have to be "that guy" who won't stop with the "Yeah but..."
  3. I've been following the re-incarnation for the United States Football League for over a year and some may not be aware that 2013 marks it's return. The short-lived NFL competitor of the 80's is on a path to revival and according to a number of sources, the USFL will comeback as "a true NFL minor league". Now I'm not sure if the NFL is ready to acknowledge this but alas, an 8-team, Spring 2013 schedule is in the works. EndZone Sports Management currently owns the rights to all USFL team names and logos but host cities are still being explored and it's unknown which 8 teams will be fielded, although it's conclusive that cities far from NFL teams will be the target. Portland, Oregon, Akron, Ohio, and Birmingham, Alabama are just a few of the cities I've read about as rumored locations. The USFL currently has a Board of Advisors in place which includes former Browns executive Jim Bailey and former NFL players: Jeff Garcia, Marshall Faulk, Chris Doleman, and Lincoln Kennedy. I'm a big proponent that a smaller, more minor-NFL type of league can work but a number of things need to happen: - First off, the game cannot be played differently than what we are used to. People didn't like the on-field camera angles of the XFL, the Arena game novelty wore off quick, and I know most of us cannot stand the lime green yard markers and pylons of the USFL. If you want to attract the least bit of NFL fans, then keep the game as close to College Football as possible. - The second point is television contract. The United Football League didn't secure a decent television deal until the recent announcement of a deal with the CBS Sports Network but it's already too late. We've seen how bad it is and we'd all rather watch a High School game. At least those kids have youth to blame for any short-comings. - The most import point, (and I say this because it will lead to the second), is talent. The USFL needs a budget so they can actually put some talent on the field. Nobody cares to watch NFL-reject JP Losman hand the ball off to Avon Coburn but would people be interested in turning into say...a Tim Tebow-lead team, playing out of Orlando? If the USFL is smart, they will put teams into big college towns and make every attempt to fill the rosters with former college studs from the area. A team in Birmingham with Greg McElroy leading the offense and Courtney Upshaw leading the defense will sell tickets here, trust me. Now I'm speculating player names, actually anticipating who may or may not be on an NFL by then but you guys get my drift. How about an Akron team loaded with former Ohio State Buckeyes? A team in Portland with Masoli, Dixon, or Darron Thomas leading the way. - The final point, (which ties into point #3), is simply cater to the College Football fan. People like us Alabamians live and die for our schools but because there's no NFL team within the state, we aren't as diehard as the people in Green Bay or Buffalo. We all like our NFL teams but CFB trumps all. No way in hell will that ever change but people like us are more inclined to check out a minor league-type of team playing out of Birmingham...whereas the diehard Dallas Cowboy fan is more than likely to turn an arrogant cheek. Not that there's anything wrong with that but I think a major reason every attempt at another "professional" football league has failed is because the diehard NFL fan just doesn't have it in him/her to pledge allegiance to anybody else. What do guys think? Stay updated on the USFL: http://www.theusfl.net/

USFL Poised to become NFL Minor League?

Okay, well clearly you're the one person in this thread who is over-analyzing. I'm sorry you cannot grasp the concept of what I feel would make an NFL minor league work....but it's not even worth arguing because the leagues hasn't kicked off yet, it's NOT an official NFL minor league, and yes, all the points I made were on behalf of a hypothetical situation.
  5. Spoken like a true John Kerry disciple. Gotta love men in uniform who argue against going to war. What'd you enlist for the college money? All that shit about getting shot or having to tell a buddies wife that her husband is dead, (which is untrue b/c the Army doesn't permit information like that to be put out in any other manner than officially), all shit that is know when you take the oath....so stop trying to act like it's such a travesty for Soldiers to have to leave Garrison and do what they are trained to do.

There's plenty of talented young guys NFL teams would prefer to take starting reps in games for a season or 2, as opposed to riding the pine. That coupled with the veterans who find themselves out of favor and the college stars who may never see the NFL game b/c they are best suited for the style of play...and I think you've got enough talent.
  7. I could be military, I could not be military, I could be prior service for all you know. Regardless of what you think, the fact is I wouldn't claim either way. It is a direct conflict for military personnel to parade around the internet and argue politics. Not saying it's illegal but is conduct unbecoming of a Soldier. The job of any SM is to support and defend the Commander-In-Chief; anything opposite is considered insubordination and depending on the severity, is punishable by UCMJ. My advice to you, stop throwing the fact you wear the uniform in people's faces, posting all these fucking pictures from Iraq all over the place, and trying to paint yourself as "Joe Patriot" on a football forum. A lot of people wear/have worn the uniform...but not everyone advertises it on the world wide web. It's been my experiences that the people who have all the "war stories" and then act like everyone else isn't shit or hasn't done shit...are the one's who are truly full of shit. I'm guessing your facebook page is full of photos of you on the FOB, hugging Haji...probably a couple of really "badass" photos of you up in the turret. Just knock that shit off and stop allowing the world to profile your dumbass. I don't have an ego, I have an opinion. Don't like it? Tough shit. I admit Islam, in it's true intentions, is a genuine religion that emphasizes peace, not war. Unfortunately it has been given a bad name by the extremists and anti-American groups who seek blood at all costs. I believe we haven't put the cap on terrorism coming out of the Middle East that we initially intended to and the wrong decisions are being made on Capitol Hill to scale back and tone down. This isn't about slaughtering Libya, it's about holding down the damn fort and clearing the streets; take back control. Do you doubt that our Government aims for control over the Middle East? If you do, then I'm sorry you're so naive.
  8. Bacile's video needs to be taken down, it's a massive conflict of interest...period. The Arab spring turns into the Arab winter...further proof that the "Golden Triangle" and surrounding areas are out of control but no matter, the Obama-lead White House will continue to scale the US back from the Middle East, downsize the military, and cut the defense budget by more than $110 Million. Makes a ton of sense.

Yeah, that's the point of a minor league.

USFL Poised to become NFL Minor League?

Let's assume for a second that the USFL is an NFL recognized minor league. Wouldn't it be wise, if he's to remain a quarterback, for Tebow to be sent to the USFL in order to get starts and develop? It would certainly be a better option than standing on the Jets sideline and waiting for those half-a-dozen wildcat or QB draw plays per game. There's plenty of talent who fall out of favor with the NFL or just don't make the cut because of a bad camp or perhaps they're unprepared. Shit, a lot of guys just don't mesh well with the pro game and others end up in bad situations for their first few seasons. You think Plax, T.O., and Chad would rather stay at home right now? What if they could be on the field, playing Friday night football, for a league that is under direct eye of the NFL?
  11. What difference does that make? I'm not complaining about the fact liberals are always the first to hide behind the Bill of Rights, completely ignoring the consequences of "free speech". And yes, in this situation, a video which is being allowed to stand is creating absolute chaos in the Middle East but can't take it down because that would be a violation of everything that is the American way of life............despite the fact this little, YouTube Muslim warcry is costing us American lives.
  12. Americans are losing their lives because a YouTube video [predictably] sparked an outrage but yet the liberals are going to sit here and preach free speech? How about we lift up our skirts, grab our balls, and go take back control of all the consulates and embassy's that are being stampeded by out of control, extremist groups?? Good God this country has gone so soft over the last 3 1/2 years. American pride my ass... SMFH

Get rid of the reputation system.

I laugh at reputation systems as it's usually the same 1 or 2 douches who troll around and neg rep every single post of the person they disagree with.

Wow, this topic is still going strong? I have to admit the subject has just taken a back seat to the fact the Middle East remains out of fucking control and the President doesn't acknowledge the problem for what it really is.
  15. Obama, Biden, and Clinton can claim the plan is working and the economy is on the rebound all they want...at the end of the day, the numbers don't lie and the Democrat-led White House just isn't getting the job done.

    Gold Diggers.

Blame the athlete more than anyone. There's plenty of pre-marrriage, legal protection from ending up in the situation you're talking about...but these idiots fall so head over heels for these chicks that they fail to take advantage.

USFL Poised to become NFL Minor League?

The CFL is a slightly differently game, no doubt these guys are out of their element being way the hell up in Saskatchewan...and I would also argue there's a motivation problem. These guys end up in the CFL and they know it's pretty much over; no more hopes and dreams for NFL stardom. In an NFL minor league...much different scenario.

    Jags @ Vikes

Very impressed and at ease with how shot-out-of-a-cannon Adrian Peterson was today. The guy literally didn't miss a step and if anyone is going to come off a knee injury with that much pop, of course it would be him. He's a prototype of something more than human & you cannot question his work ethic and drive. Even more impressed with Ponder's performance. He wasn't sexy but it was a solid outing and he did exactly what we need him to do: open up the ground game. If Ponder can spread the ball around enough through the air and not give away possessions...then Adrian will have plenty of lanes to work. Blair Walsh...right on...I will stop being bitter about cutting Longwell loose now. Great win, definitely something to build off of.

    Week 1 Surprises

I was just thinking about how surprised I am the Broncos offense is so fluent, this early, in Peyton's first season with Denver.

I did use term "Christian" to describe Ryan's beliefs but as far as what you're saying...I've strictly combined "GOP" and "Conservatives". There's several different religions that fall within the Republican party and even many people who don't bother much with religion at all. And this whole IVF debate... "Thou shalt not create test tube babies" may not be in the King James version of the bible but it's unnatural and much like abortion and stem cell research, Conservatives like Paul Ryan aren't in favor. You're completely missing the point on this. And btw, you're really the only person I've encountered who has IVF as such a major issue. How about we worry about fixing the economy? I'm not a Christian. For the 3rd time in 24 hours, another member joins the discussion and starts "quoting" me.

I haven't used the term "Christian" or "Christianity" once in this entire thread. Holy shit, why do other posters keep putting words into my mouth? You people need to fucking ree-lax.

That's your opinion and sorry to disappoint but it's no more important than mine. Didn't say that, you just did though. LOL. Who's the idiot? Again, I didn't say religion necessarily belong in politics so clean the shit out of your ears and then come at me. I'm sorry, are you brand new to the concept of how conservatives have certain opinions which can be directly attributed to their system of beliefs? Wow...this site is full of politically dumb people. Most of you need to learn how to read btw.

First of all, campaign contributions are a matter of public record...so if you really want to know, go research it. The gist of websites like OpenSecrets.org is a scare tactic on the Romney campaign, brought to you by Liberals. It lists Romney's major campaign contributors as all the evil banks that stole your tax money and put us into a recession...meanwhile, Obama's campaign is primarily funded by universities and respected research foundations. Please....if you cannot see the obvious here...

I mean, there's no conspiracy here....Clinton's extensions of Affirmative Action Policy lead to the massive number of dead-beat mortgages. Affirmative Action has everything to do with it. I realize our financial collapse triggered problems around the globe but aside from Western Europe, I don't think "global collapse" is the best way to describe it. Either way, we are no longer in a recession and thank God the Euro didn't/hasn't become the World's trade currency. Religion has no place in politics but science does? What kind of mentality is that? If we're omitting all belief systems from government then those who believe in creating test tube babies are shit out of luck too then...right? I mean it's only fair that it works both ways. They voted for a stimulus that didn't work and a health care reform that the CBO estimates will add another $4 billion to the national deficit in a period of 20 years. Don't act like the Dems don't do the same. Enough of the political left went along with all of Bush's mistakes and now he's suddenly the worst president ever, according to the same people Again with the Liberal media. What's next...are you suggest I "educate" myself to the "truth" by watching a Michael Moore flick?
