Buy. While I'm a huge fan of Ponder, I don't see him taking over McNabbs spot. B/S - Lions end up being strong contenders for NFC North Champion

Gabbert a strong contender for starting QB job
Glanvilles Grits replied to FartWaffles's topic in AFC
Unlike everyone else, I don't really think he looked that bad in the preseason game. He just held onto the ball a little too long. I think that it was more or less his receivers weren't getting open and he was being way too cautious. Not to mention, his offensive line played terrible. Definitely don't think he should start right off the bat, but it wouldn't be horrible if he did. -
He'll never work in Ryans scheme. Not unless he bulks back up. He's too undersized.

Here's my .02, I'm a big supporter that college athletes should get paid something, anything. Having a family member currently playing football in college on a scholarship, I knwo that he can't afford anything. And having a job? Ha, hardly have enough time for a job! He is able to work 10, maybe 15 hours of work at most. He can't pay for anything, they give him hardly any money. So I'm not saying a lot, but enough for meals at least! Anyway, in terms of rules. I think it's time to start imposing the death penalty. Show schools that they are serious about following the rules. It's time.

Preseason: Week One Winners & Losers
Glanvilles Grits replied to Patriots2994's topic in General NFL Talk
As a die hard Falcons fan, I feel dirty saying this but. . . Josh Freeman and the Bucs looked great out there. :x Falcons first team looked badass too. But there was no depth to be seen. -
Neither... Calvin. First 4 seasons between the 2... Andre has a huge lead in receptions just because he gets more targets...I'm pretty sure the rest of the stats speak for themself.... Andre Johnson -- 311 rec., 3,953 yards, 12.7 avg., 16 TDs on 565 Targets Calvin Johnson -- 270 rec., 4,191 yards, 14.5 avg., 33 TDs on 519 Targets

Best triplet in the NFL right now?
Glanvilles Grits replied to AllYouNeedIsLovie's topic in General NFL Talk
Is it really that cut and dry even between Roddy and Andre? I'm sure you along with everyone else is thinking I'm crazy, but hear me out on this one. . . Roddy White has had 4 consecutive seasons over 1000 yards after him not really caring to be as good as his talent allowed him to be the first two seasons he was in the league. 2007: 1202yds, 6 TD 2008: 1382yds, 7 TD 2009: 1153yds, 11 TD 2010: 1389yds, 10 TD Andre has had 3 consecutive seasons over 1000 yards. And before that of his 7 year career, he had 2 seasons prior to 2008 with over 1000 yards (2004, 2006)And yeah I know the argument of 2007 when he had his injury will come into play here. . But 2008: 1575yds, 8 TD 2009: 1569yds, 9 TD 2010: 1216yds, 8 Td I think Roddy is capable of doing everything that Andre is capable of, and he can run better routes. Andre Johnson is more known for his long stride and using his strength to break away from defenders. In my book if Roddy puts in another season over 1100 yards this year and over 7 TD, he's better than Andre. At least in my book. You can consider that homer, or whatever, but that's how I see it. -
Overrated and Underrated player on your team?
Glanvilles Grits replied to AllYouNeedIsLovie's topic in General NFL Talk
Overrated: Tony Gonzalez. Gonzo has lost a step, big time. He can't pass block. He lost his explosiveness. At least he can still come up big in clutch situations. Underrated: John Abraham. Guy is a sack monster (Other than 09 when he had a neck injury all season), and no one ever pays any attention to him in the media. -

Best triplet in the NFL right now?

I definitely think Arguments can be made for all 3 of those comparisons Shotgun. Big arguments. Especially the Turner/Foster and the Schaubb/Ryan ones. -
I think it's a dumb rule. Hate seeing players get hurt after being creamed, but you can't take away one of the most exciting plays in the game. Whats more exciting when the game is closing out, and you see a guy like Devin Hester, Josh Cribbs, or DeSean Jackson back getting ready to take a kickoff return? Nothing, thats what. This rule pretty much eliminates return specialist guys. So if this rule sticks, guys like Hester and Cribbs better step up their receiving abilities, because without the returns, theres no point in keeping a specialist on the roster.

Really depends for me. If Vick continues to play like he did last season, then I have to go with the Eagles. -
Who should I be excited about on your roster?
Glanvilles Grits replied to RazorStar's topic in General NFL Talk
The majority of people will probably say Julio Jones. I mean, he is the most obvious thing to be excited about. But I won't say Jones. Yes, be excited about Julio by all means, you should be. But I'm going to go with someone that gets a lot less attention for reasons unknown to me. John Abraham. Abe is going to have a HUGE season with the addition of Ray Edwards opposite of him. I pointed this out on AFT, Edwards is not just some overpaid DE that benefited from Jared Allen. I think it was actually the other way around. Edwards is an extremely efficient pass rusher, and Jared Allen benefited from that. John Abraham will benefit the same exact way. I expect nothing less than another pro-bowl season out of Abe. Did I mention that Abe led all defensive ends in the league last year in sacks? Of course, the media won't say that, because Abe gets no attention. -
Channing Crowder plans NFL comeback in 2012 or 2013
Glanvilles Grits replied to AllYouNeedIsLovie's topic in General NFL Talk
Well, being a father of a 5 month old daughter, I would say that's a great reason to skip a year. I don't know if he should have called it a "retirement" so to speak though.
