Peter King: Bengals have Julio Jones higher than A.J. Green on draft board

Recommended Posts

SI's Peter King reports that the Bengals have Julio Jones rated higher than A.J. Green on their draft board.

This is fairly significant because many mock drafts have A.J. Green going to Cincinnati at No. 4 overall. "Several personnel sources" tell King that Jones is the safer receiver prospect "in terms of work ethic and practice habits." The theory, ostensibly, is that Jones had to work harder in college because Green is a more natural athlete. The Bengals are also reimplementing a run-first offense, and Jones is regarded as a better blocker.

Verrrrry interesting if this is true. Some other interesting tidbits from the same article:

I'd be stunned in Carolina does anything but pick a defensive lineman, quarterback or trades the pick. John Elway has said the Broncos are considering a quarterback at number two, but that would be a shocker. Buffalo is not taking a receiver at number three; the Bills will go quarterback or defensive front-seven player.

Why would Denver need another QB? They have the Almighty available to take snaps.

As for Green and Jones, they're 1a/1b in my book. Either player is respectable, whether the other is still on the board or not. I am very curious to see which goes first though.. and which performs the best as a pro.

Sweetness. Start making those AJ Green Browns jerseys.

According to Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer's, he thinks it's possible the Browns could draft Alabama' Julio Jones over Georgia's A.J. Green if they decide to take a wideout at No. 6. Momentum is building toward the Browns selecting a defensive lineman with their first pick, but A.J. Green has been mocked to them by several prognosticators this spring. GM Tom Heckert has spoken often about Jones, however, leaving open the possibility that the Browns could go against conventional wisdom on April 28.

Maybe not.
