LeSean McCoy fails to show for paid autograph signing

Well, at least Mike Vick isn’t the only member of the Eagles who fails to show up for stuff.

Allegedly.

Paul Domowitch of the Philadelphia Daily News reports that McCoy failed to attend a paid autograph signing event in Ashley, Pennsylvania on March 11.

Per Domowitch, McCoy received $2,500 of a $5,000 fee up front from Bentley’s, a local restaurant and night club. Bentley’s had to refund the ticket price paid by “hundreds†who waited in vain for McCoy to arrive.

“We’re investigating the full extent of what happened and why he didn’t make it there,†attorney Jonathan Comitz told Domowitch. “If necessary, we’ll pursue all available options. We spent a lot of money on advertising for this event. We took a hit to our goodwill because those people were livid, to say the least.â€

In other words, Bentley’s apparently will sue McCoy not only for the return of the $2,500, but for all other direct, incidental, and consequential financial injuries.

The event was scheduled by McCoy’s brother, LeRon.

“We gave [LeSean] half of the contract fee,†Comitz said. “He just never showed up. There were phone conversations back and forth with him and his people all night. There were a lot of people waiting for him. A lot of them waited until midnight hoping he still might show.â€

McCoy posted messages on his Twitter page indicating that he had a flat tire and that, as of 11:14 p.m., he was on his way to Ashley. But he never showed up, and that was the last tweet of the night.

McCoy’s nickname is Shady. And it’s never been more appropriate.

Paul Domowitch of the Philadelphia Daily News tried to get the other side of the story before publishing his story regarding the failure of Eagles running back LeSean McCoy to show up for a paid autograph session. Now that the story has been published, the other side of the story is emerging.

McCoy’s brother, LeRon, told Domowitch that the advance paid to LeSean is “ready to be returned.†LeRon McCoy said they delayed refunding the money because they feared that Bentley’s, the restaurant and nightclub that organized the event, would sue in an effort to “get more money than they sent. . . . [W]e also think [LeSean's] April 2 appearance [at another Wilkes-Barre area location] helped prompt this attack, seeing as how we are dealing with competition.â€

LeRon McCoy had more to say. But none of it changes the fact that LeSean failed to show up. Even though the advance is being returned, Bentley’s can still sue for any damages suffered by McCoy’s failure to perform his duties under the arrangement.
