Former MLB bad boy Jose Canseco tried to throw fans a curveball this weekend by sending his twin brother Ozzie to fight in his place at a celebrity boxing match in Florida, a promoter charges.

The 46-year-old former Oakland A's star was scheduled to slug it out with boxer Billy Padden at the Passion nightclub at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Saturday night.

But some 30 minutes before the fighters were to touch gloves, boxing promoter Damon Feldman discovered Canseco's attempted bait-and-switch, a celebrity boxing representative said.

"We discovered the Canseco who showed up was Ozzie when he took off his shirt and didn't have Jose's tattoos on the biceps that appear in our advertising," the representative, who didn't give his name, told Miami's Spanish-language newspaper El Nuevo Herald.

Ozzie Canseco had a brief career in the majors in the early 90s. In recent years, he's been accused of impersonating his brother at book signings and card shows.

Feldman's representative told The Herald that the promoter paid Canseco $5,000 before the fight and then gave another $5,000 to the man who showed up.

The representative said the Canseco look-alike asked for the check to be made out to cash, and the promoter agreed.

But when they caught wind of the ruse, the promoters demanded the check back.

The man refused, and the promoters called the cops, who kicked the man out of the club, the rep said.

Officials said they suspected Jose Canseco may have sent a pinch fighter to the weigh-in on Friday, when the man who showed wore sunglasses and never removed his T-shirt.

"Nobody would have questioned then that it was not Jose Canseco," Feldman's rep told The Herald. "He looked identical."

In several posts on Twitter on Saturday and Sunday, Jose Canseco said reports about the Ozzie swap were "lies" and called Feldman a cheat.

"Be very careful with Damon Feldman who runs celebrity boxing he will not pay you if you fight for him," he wrote.
