COLTS: 0-4

Most recent game: 17-24 loss to Tampa Bay

Well, we've officially seen both Colts' QBs in action now. They both have their pros (I suppose) as well as their cons (which there are plenty of). Painter got his first NFL start on Monday night, as I'm sure you're all aware.

He didn't get a win, and he didn't set the record books on fire, but he did throw for nearly 300 yards (281) and two TDs. He also managed to not throw any picks and boast a QB rating of 99.4, albeit while completing a woeful 43.3 % of his passes.

Painter seems to have a cannon for an arm, but is more than a tad inaccurate at times. He can hit for big plays when it comes to the deep ball, but he looks to struggle when it comes to timing routes and short yardage passes. He just didn't have much touch on the ball at all in Monday night's game.

Some of that can be explained by nerves or jitters—first NFL start on Monday night, trying to follow in Manning's footsteps, etc...—but it doesn't change the fact that he did struggle at times. It's only one game, and next week he'll go up against a KC Cheifs team that has yet to find their way in 2011 provided that he gets the start.

Kerry Collins on the other hand has loads of experience and possibly loads of cialis—he's old, you see. With Manning out for the year, he was brought in to keep the Colts "on track," but is yet to get them there. The offense has looked inept at best with Collins at the helm.

Add to that the fact that he's currently dealing with concussion issues while still aging every day, and Painter is one good hit away from coming back into the game even if Collins gets the starting job back.

Dan Orlovsky's name is also in the hat now, but I don't think I need to say much about him. Everyone remembers his claim to fame—running away, ay? LOLDan Orlovsky.

It may be a catch 22 for the Colts at the QB position this season, but someone has to play. So who do you think it should be?

Painter is nothing special. He reaped the benefits of Garcon's speed and play making ability. One pass was an outside catch in which Garcon broke two tackles and then just burned out defense. The other was a quick screen which was the result of a TD based on some tremendous down field blocking. If you take away those two big plays by Garcon, Painter does nothing. Add to the fact that our defense dropped about 3 picks and I'd say Painter had a pretty lucky game. He was lucky to not have played worse.

Now with that being said, is Collins better? That I can't tell you.

Painter didn't play great, but I think he was better than Kerry Collins would have been. He's been in the system for a couple years behind Peyton after all. I think he'll do better as the season goes along, it was his first game.

Most of his yards and his 2 TD's more so came off of coverage mistakes by the Bucs though. We did great most of the game rushing him and doing man-to-man coverage, but one of the zone plays we did run, Talib fucked his coverage up on Garcon and got burned for it. The other was just a dump-off combined with a lot of really fantastic blocking by the rest of the offense. That was just a great play design.

I certainly say they just stick with Painter. He'll either get better as the season goes along, or he sucks and they get Andrew Luck to sit behind Peyton, which may have a very Brett Favre type ending. Either way they'll know what they have in Painter and whether or not they should bother keeping him.

Stick with the Dutch Boy. Painter has led to more points in 1 and 1/4 games than Collins did with 2 and 3/4 games, plus all of Collins' points came in garbage time. Although they are both sitting ducks in the pocket, Painter can get rid of the ball quicker, which will be more important now that we have injuries to our already mediocre O-line, Collins would've broken his hip last night. The biggest issue with Painter is that he never got to practice before last week. Peyton ran the practices, then Collins got the reps this year. Painter's job in practice before this was mimicking the opposing QB so the defense could practice. Once he gets in a practice routine, the jitters will subside and his confidence will grow. Talk about a waste of $4 mil for Collins, especially when Meriwether was available at safety considering Bullitt is done and Caldwell is not cutting it, both Caldwells for that matter.

I'd have to say that I pretty much agree with both of you guys here. While Painter didn't look great, he did have moments where he looked like he's been paying attention to what Manning has been doing for the past two years. He definitely tries to mimic Peyton's mannerisms. I don't know that he'll ever be 1/10 the QB that Peyton is, but there's only one way to find out, and the team has publicly supported him since Collins was hired. That means a lot, imo.

Painter. And it isn't close. Curtis isn't a starter in the NFL but he's not Kerry Collins either. Our offensive line is in shambles right now and Curtis has the mobility to extend the play by rolling out. Had we actually started him Week 1 and given him some time, MAYBE we would have one or two wins instead of 0-4. On top of that Kerry can't throw for junk and Curtis isn't afraid to throw a deep ball (even if it isn't right on target).

That said, Orlovsky isn't a bad option either. Lets be honest folks, at 0-4 our season is in the tank. I'm fine with that, so let someone within the organization just play and let us find out whether they're worth keeping around as a backup for a few seasons. No need to get Garrard, he isn't going to fix the problem and if anything he'll just be another guy like Kerry who couldn't pick up and run the no huddle offense. If anything Curtis and Dan have a HUGE advantage because they were seeing and running the no huddle during the preseason.
