BLUE 1,026 Posted May 1, 2012 (edited) Per Rotoworld.com: Redskins released WR Jabar Gaffney. The moves clears $2.65M in salary off the books. Gaffney caught a career-high 68 passes for 947 yards and five touchdowns last season, but offered little after the catch. He became expendable after the Skins committed nearly $30M guaranteed to Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan. Gaffney's bizarre April Twitter rant surely didn't help matters. The Patriots were considered likely to be interested in Gaffney if he hit the open market, but that was before they retained Deion Branch and Chad Ochocinco, and signed Anthony Gonzalez and Donte' Stallworth. With at least 50 catches in each of the past three seasons, the 31-year-old Gaffney should find a new home soon. May 1 - 10:44 AM Source: Jason Cole on Twitter The Redskins released WR Jabar Gaffney after "several failed attempts" to work out a trade.Gaffney's $2.65 million salary was likely viewed as too prohibitive even though he led the Redskins with 68 catches and 947 receiving yards in 2011. Gaffney was "surprised" by the news despite being informed last month he didn't need to attend the Redskins' offseason program. A consistently productive possession receiver, Gaffney shouldn't be on the market for long. Thanatos 2,847 Posted May 2, 2012 I'm rather surprised at this. Was 2.65 mil too much to pay Gaffney?
DonovanMcnabb for H.O.F 2,241 Posted May 2, 2012 They weren't even able to get anything for him? A damn shame...
Duck Fallas 209 Posted May 3, 2012 I heard somewhere that he was released with the hopes for the Redskins to re-sign him to a lower contract, but Gaffney is not interested.
BLUE 1,026 Posted May 3, 2012 (edited) Per Rotoworld.com: Patriots signed WR Jabar Gaffney to a two-year contract. After only spending a seventh-round pick at the receiver position, the Pats will head into offseason activities with Gaffney, Julian Edelman, Deion Branch, Anthony Gonzalez, and Donte' Stallworth behind starters Wes Welker and Brandon Lloyd. Gaffney showed last season that he has plenty left at age 31, setting career bests across the board. Already familiar with the Patriots' offense after spending 2006-2008 in New England and 2009-2010 in Denver with Josh McDaniels, Gaffney won't struggle to make Chad Ochocinco expendable. Duck Fallas 209 Posted May 3, 2012 The Pats now have three Redskin castoffs, Gaffney, Stallworth and Lloyd...players that will likely win a title now that they are no longer in DC.
