Vin+ 3,121 Posted September 24, 2012 Cowboys SS Barry Church is done for the season with a torn right Achilles' tendon. He'll have surgery on Tuesday. The Cowboys were already missing FS Gerald Sensabaugh for multiple games. They'll now be without both of their starting safeties in Week 4. Church, a physical "box" safety, looked to be an ascending player in Rob Ryan's defense. He beat out Brodney Pool handily in camp. BwareDWare94 723 Posted September 24, 2012 This is too bad. He was getting better by the year, and players never seem to recover all that well from Achilles injuries.
BenGone 35 Posted September 24, 2012 This sucks. He's made so much progress. And Dallas is hurting at safety anyway. Damn.
Guest Phailadelphia Posted September 24, 2012 Yuck. The team is already shallow at the safety position and Church was playing great. He did an awesome job of carrying Dallas Clark around the field yesterday.
Vin+ 3,121 Posted October 6, 2012 Whoops... The Cowboys offered SS Barry Church a contract extension before he tore his right Achilles' tendon at the end of September. The details of the extension are unknown, but Dallas was trying to lock Church up for the next couple of seasons. Church's agent didn't respond to the offer, so it was never turned down or countered. He is making $540,000 in 2012 and is scheduled to become a restricted free agent after the season. It's highly unlikely that the Cowboys' extension offer still stands after the injury. Church may still be in Dallas' long-term plans, however. Source: ESPN Dallas
