BLUE 1,026 Posted February 15, 2013 (edited) Per Rotoworld.com: The Washington Times expects free agent Fred Davis to reach the open market.Redskins GM Bruce Allen hinted Thursday that Davis remains in the team's plans, but it doesn't appear a deal is imminent as Davis makes his way back from a torn Achilles' tendon. Even though he's coming off major injury, the Redskins would be running a real risk of losing Davis if they let him reach free agency. Washington is well over the cap, and even a rehabbing Davis would likely draw strong interest in a league with an increasing thirst for pass-catching tight ends. Duck Fallas 209 Posted February 17, 2013 There is somewhere around a 5% chance that the Redskins would be stupid enough to not get him re-signed before he can become a FA. At the very least we will use the franchise tag on him again, though with the cap issues we have, the more likely scenario would be a long-term deal with minimal cap hit this year. seanbrock 1,684 Posted February 17, 2013 I'd love to see Fred Davis in Chip Kelly's offense.
BLUE 1,026 Posted February 18, 2013 Per Rotoworld.com: The Washington Post expects the Redskins to pass on using the franchise tag.The 'Skins lack compelling candidates for the tag, and are mired in one of the league's worst salary-cap situations. It means they'll risk losing free agent Fred Davis on the open market, but he won't draw significant interest early in the process as he recovers from a torn Achilles' tendon. GM Bruce Allen says the Redskins will assess Davis' recovery "later this spring." Feb 18 - 11:27 AM Source: Washington Post
BLUE 1,026 Posted March 29, 2013 Per Rotoworld.com: Redskins re-signed TE Fred Davis to a one-year contract.Davis is staying home even though the Bills' offer was reportedly "a little better," and for two years. Recovering from a torn Achilles, Davis' one-year deal gives him the opportunity to prove he's healthy and cash in with a bigger contract next offseason. Davis' role in the Redskins' Robert Griffin III-driven offense was never quite clear before he went down last season, but he still has back-end TE1 upside. If healthy, he could enter 2013 as the Redskins' No. 2 option in the passing game. Davis is tentatively expected to be ready for training camp. Duck Fallas 209 Posted March 30, 2013 Good to see Davis stick around in DC, he told redskins.com that he really didn't want to leave Washington. It is the only place he has known in his career, but he also said that he would look around.
