Razor's Mock Draft (Version 2, Divine Reckoning)

Recommended Posts

Mock Draft 2.0. Trades are in this, however they are not frequent. Prepare your anus.

1. Houston Texans: Dave Clowney, DE, South Carolina

I’ve flirted with the idea that this could be a QB, but that’s all smoke and mirrors. Ideally the Texans trade down, but if you can’t, you have to take a chance on a prospect like this. This may not be the draft to grab your guy for the right now, but there are plenty of developmental projects who can attempt to be better than Ryan Fitzpatrick, the league baseline for a QB.

2. Atlanta Falcons (Trade with St. Louis for 6th overall, 68th overall and 2015 first rounder) (Original pick from Washington): Khalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo

Even though this isn’t Clowney, the Falcons are desperate enough to believe that having the elite pass rusher is the last piece they need. Meanwhile the Rams are happy to oblige even if means missing out on the player they covet the most.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson

The general consensus is that you can wait on your QB’s. No team in the top is making any aggressive moves for any of these guys, and the interest in the top 10 is lukewarm at best. There isn’t a guy screaming franchise here, so the Jags will continue to build the team for the future that comes. A stopgap like Savage or Garopollo is not out of the question in the later rounds, but the Jags could use a real number one option to overcome the weakness in Short’s game and the weakness in Blackmon’s head.

4. Cleveland Browns: Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M

The Browns franchise is one constantly teetering on the edge, rebuild after rebuild while getting nothing done. They need a man who can thrive in the chaos of Cleveland. Johnny Manziel may not be that man, but he can damn sure try. One thing is certain though, Cleveland desperately needs a guy to be their savior and they cannot wait any longer. Hoyer can stopgap for a few games or stick around as a backup, but they need a face for their franchise.

5. Oakland Raiders: Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M

C’mon, this is an Oakland Raiders pick. Take the physical specimen WR with no real WR skills. Perfect. I could see them trying to trade out, but I don’t think the market is particularly strong.

6. St. Louis Rams (Trade with Atlanta): Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn

I have a feeling this pick comes down to the tackle the Rams like the most. While they thought they were gonna lose Saffold to the Raiders, they got lucky and were able to sign him back for a modest contract. Nonetheless the line altogether is quite weak and could use some bolstering. Getting an actual Right Tackle means Saffold and Barksdale can man the guard spots and improve the line overall. In a perfect world, they take a QB here because Bradford is not the answer.

7. Tampa Bay Bucs: Blake Bortles, QB, Central Florida

The Bucs are enamored with Bortles but aren’t willing to move up for him. Good for them to realize what they want and the value of that want. However, that does leave an odd man out at QB for them, and a potential trade opportunity could be struck for Ugly Bowl Champion Mike Glennon.

8. Minnesota Vikings: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State

Lemme tell you a little secret… you may already know this, but Chris Cook and Josh Robinson are actually clones of Benny Sapp. Please save the Vikings from their reign of terror. If they develop that secondary, they might be able to win more games.

9. Buffalo Bills: Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan

The Bills could use some more power on their offensive line, and giving EJ Manuel another gritty physical bookend is sure to make his job easier. Because soon, he’ll be the best QB in the AFC East. Time will tell if that’s faint praise or not.

10. Detroit Lions: Eric… nah that’d be a clever use of resources.

10. Detroit Lions: Anthony Barr, DE/OLB, UCLA

MORE PASS RUSH.

11. Miami Dolphins (Trade with Tennessee for 19th and 81st overall): Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M

I feel like the Dolphins are just desperate enough to consider this move. Tannehill has basically two NFL starters on the line, and one has proven to be a dumbass with the same character flaws Richie Incognito had. In line with the Albert FA signing, Matthews will ensure both sides are well protected.

12. New York Giants: Eric Ebron, TE, North Carolina

The Giants need a lot of help if they want to get out of the NFC East cellar. They fluked their way to seven wins, in large part due to Eli Manning and Jon Beason. However, they need more players than that who can compete. Giving Manning another weapon seems appropriate with the falloff and disappearance of one Hakeem Nicks.

13. St. Louis Rams: Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama

Picks that just make sense. The Rams secondary was garbage, and here’s something that should come as no surprise, you win the game by passing and stopping the pass. Clinton Dix will be doing a lot of latter.

14. Chicago Bears: Timmy Jernigan, DT, Florida State

Things the Bears need: 20 players on defense who aren’t just warm bodies. Jernigan is a good start. There’s debate whether he, Donald or someone else is the best DT in this class, but when you consider the physical body of work, I feel like the choice is obvious.

15. San Francisco 49ers (Trade with Pittsburgh for 30th, 77th and 94th overall picks): Odell Beckham Jr, WR, LSU

The Niners have the firepower to move up in the draft and they’re gunning for a WR. After Mike Evans was snaked early here, they figured to go for the next best option and get aggressive for him. With the Ravens, Jets and Titans all in the market for a top flight option, the pick makes sense here. Meanwhile the Steelers recoup the third rounder they lost to the browns and add another to the pile.

16. Dallas Cowboys: Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh

Kiffin gets an amazing 3 technique to play in his outdated defense. Hopefully this brings them a step closer to decency. Dallas needs a lot of work to restore a defense that was pretty bad to begin with.

17. Baltimore Ravens: Zach Martin, OT, Notre Dame

The Blindside is gone, but that doesn’t mean the Ravens don’t need a RT anymore. Martin is a nice fit and solid value for the Ravens.

18. New York Jets: Marqise Lee, WR, USC

So… did his parents realize that you should probably have a u after the Q in a name? Asides aside, the Jets are enamored with this kid, and barring a fall by Ebron, this is almost certainly the pick. In terms of raw potential, this is one of the highest ceiling prospects to go after.

19. Tennessee Titans (Trade from Miami): Kony Ealy, OLB, LSU

So the Titans are transitioning to the 3-4. They need to pick up a lot of pieces and fast, or this is gonna be an ugly switch. Having a pass rush will at least ease the pain. They can focus on the offense in later rounds for sure.

20. Arizona Cardinals: Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville

Mark my words, Bridgewater will not fall out of the first round. The kid is too damn talented for that to happen. A team with an old boy at QB will roll the dice and be grateful that they did.

21. Green Bay Packers: Ryan Shazier, LB, tOSU

The Packers would like to improve the speed on their defense. Where better to start than grabbing one of the fastest linebackers in the draft?

22. Philadelphia Eagles: Brandin Cooks, WR, Oregon State

The Eagles lack an explosive playmaker with DeSean Jackson gone. Nick Foles needs more people who can get his 50/50 balls strongly in the Eagle’s favour.

23. Kansas City Chiefs: Darqueze Dennard, CB, Michigan State

After seeing just how badly Andrew Luck eviscerated his team once injuries started setting in, Fat Andy is gonna need to invest in protecting his team’s backside. The Chiefs were a talented team last year but fell off down the stretch. As long as they can pass and stop the pass they’ll be competitive in the AFC.

24. Cincinnati Bengals: Kyle Van Noy, LB, BYU

It’s gonna be interesting how Cincinnati responds this year with both their coordinators gone for greener pastures. In any case, the team needs to start by keeping their defensive presence dominant. This kid has incredible instincts and would be a great replacement for the forever forgotten Rey Maualuga.

25. San Diego Chargers: Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech

San Diego’s offense = good. San Diego’s defense = bad. Begin the healing process Chargers.

26. Cleveland Browns (From Indianapolis): C.J. Mosely, LB, Alabama

The Browns get a hammer in the middle of the defense, and Mike Pettine gets his own Bart Scott to turn the Browns into a decent NFL defense. Change is a-coming.

27. New Orleans Saints: Jeremy Hill, RB, LSU

The Saints need to look to replace some of the explosion they lost this offseason. They have a lot of decent options available, but Hill gives the offense the most options.

28. Carolina Panthers: Joel Bitonio, OL, Nevada

I don’t care that the Panthers receiving corps is a depleted mess, you don’t reach for a receiver when your offensive line is also a depleted mess. Giving Cam an extra half second in the pocket is more important than getting a guy to maybe catch a pass.

29. New England Patriots: Ra’shede Hageman, DT, Arizona State

Hageman provides a flexible option at defensive tackle, something BB craves. However he needs a lot of coaching up to cover his inconsistent play. Well, there aren’t better places to go if you need coaching up on defensive technique.

30. Pittsburgh Steelers (trade with San Fran): Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State

I waffled on this pick for a while, but the Steeler enjoy their value picks, and Roby is a high value player with a lot of potential. The downsides are there too, but with good coaching and the right environment, the Steelers can stop leaning on Old Man Ike Taylor.

31. Denver Broncos: Weston Richburg, C, Colorado State

Just saying… getting a real centre provides a significant upgrade to our offensive line. If we can avoid having Pope Manning getting his papal hat knocked off, we’re sure to lose by less points in a critical playoff game.

32. Washington Redskins (trade with Seattle for 34th and 102nd): Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia

The Redskins love them some Morgan Moses. Considering how woeful the Skins were blocking last year, an improvement must be made. I can see them making the short hop up to the first just to ensure they get their man.

Shazier is becoming a popular mock pick for the Packers.. not sure how I like that.
