Vin+ 3,121 Posted January 7, 2015 Redskins hired ex-49ers and Seahawks executive Scot McCloughan as general manager and signed him to a four-year contract. It's an absolute coup for the Redskins, who have rarely -- if ever -- employed talented personnel selectors under owner Dan Snyder. A Ron Wolf disciple with an analytics background, McCloughan is one of the very best talent evaluators in football. He largely built the 49ers roster that is now disintegrating under Trent Baalke, and played a huge role in building the current Seahawks dynasty. Under the Redskins' new arrangement, current GM Bruce Allen will be promoted to team president. Unlike the situation in Philadelphia, we wouldn't consider this a demotion for Allen. He's reportedly friends with McCloughan, and likely relishing the prospect of stepping away from building the Redskins' 53-man roster, a job he was terrible at. McCloughan is a mammoth upgrade. Dutch 874 Posted January 7, 2015 First the Redskins get rid of Jim Haslett and now they hire Scot McCloughan. The Redskins are making good moves. I'm so confused...
BLUE 1,026 Posted January 7, 2015 Per Rotoworld.com: Profootballtalk reports Scot McCloughan's hiring as the Redskins' general manager is not a done deal, and that the Raiders and Jets continue to pursue him. PFT's Mike Florio reports there's also still wrangling over who'd have final say in Washington, McCloughan or team president Bruce Allen. The deal appears very likely to go through, but nothing is certain when an irrational presence like owner Daniel Snyder is involved. Vin+ 3,121 Posted January 7, 2015 For srs this time. Redskins hired Scot McCloughan as their general manager. He inked a four-year contract, just as it was reported Tuesday. McCloughan built the 49ers teams that recently came to life under coach Jim Harbaugh and had a big-time helping hand in shaping the current Seahawks dynasty. It's a big get for the Redskins, as McCloughan will have final say over the 53-man roster. It sounds great, but Dan Snyder still owns the team and McCloughan reports to GM-turned-president Bruce Allen. As long as they let McCloughan do his job, they should see results. Keeping Snyder out of personnel decisions is easier said than done.
Vin+ 3,121 Posted January 26, 2015 New Redskins GM Scot McCloughan is attempting to add Packers senior personnel executive Alonzo Highsmith to his front office. Highsmith is a highly respected college scout who was originally hired by Ron Wolf in 1999. He was named the NFL Scout of the Year following the 2010 season. McCloughan, like Highsmith, has a background with Wolf. McCloughan is trying to turn Washington's front office from a mess into something formidable. Luring Highsmith to D.C. would be a big first step. Source: Ian Rapoport on Twitter
