Cherry discusses loss and referees

"I'm disappointed in our entire team. I'm disappointed in our line. I'm disappointed in our secondary. I'm disappointed in our receivers. This entire team is going to hear about it for the next week. That said it was a terribly called game by the referees. I'll accept the 50k fine or whatever they decide to send my way, but they need to go back and re-evaluate that game. We got one call our way the entire game, and we barely got that. They had to debate on whether or not the defense tried to hurt our quarterback. Every time we'd get started we'd have a holding or something stop the drive short. Props to the Spartans for staying in the hunt, but that was atrocious."

The Rams have now lost to two teams that came in with a combined record of 1-12 in back-to-back weeks. It seems they're quickly trending downhill as the receivers and quarterback can't connect anymore. This is a very shaken up team. There is a very real chance they finish 5-7 and miss bowl season.

Boise State @ Colorado State (Preview)

Colorado State (4-4, 2-3 MW) opens up as 9-point underdogs to the Boise State Broncos (6-1, 3-1 MW). The most interesting matchups will be up front where a powerful Colorado State defensive line will have to take on one of the best running teams in the nation. Boise State runs 90% of its plays out of formations with less than three players to the outside. On the other hand, the Boise State secondary is one of the best in the nation only allowing 200 yards per game in passing. If Colorado State can't move the ball in the passing game, it will likely be a blowout.

Air Force @ Colorado State (Preview)

The Colorado State Rams (4-5, 2-4 MW) come in as a 9-point underdog to the Air Force Falcons (6-3, 2-3 MW). The Rams will be looking to get a bounce-back win with hopes of staying in the race for a bowl game. The Falcons on the other hand are looking to redeem themselves after being upset by New Mexico two games ago. Air Force is a more talented team, but the Rams have more big playmakers. The match will mainly come down to who will pull a few turnovers and succeed down the stretch. The Rams have proven that they can't win from behind. It's expected to be cloudy and in the 40s.

Cherry's prediction: 31-14 Air Force.

The temperature is around 44 degrees outside with clouds hanging low and blotting out the sun. Only 20,800 fans show up for arguably the Rams biggest game of the year. A loss puts them on the outside looking in, needing a win over both New Mexico and potentially Colorado to make it in to the bowl games. A win gives them a great shot and proves that the team isn't willing to lay down. Arguably a team with 6-3 talent that hasn't shown up to the task, it will be interesting to see how they handle the pressure of near-elimination from bowl season.

Colorado State starts on offense with the ball on their own 20. They make it down to the Air Force 43 but get stopped by two bad passes and a sack. They punt near midfield.

Air Force takes it at their own 14. A terrible play by Pollock allows a 46-yard pass. The defense holds and they have to kick a 31-yard field goal. 3-0 Air Force.

The Rams start at their own 28. The Rams can't move the ball. They punt. Air Force starts at the Rams 38 after a bad punt, good return, and facemask penalty. They score a 36-yard TD a few plays later. 10-0 Air Force. (I played deep zone :Suicide:)

The Rams take it to their own 22. A big play by Franklin Garrett gets the Rams to the opposing 30. A sack and run for a loss makes them punt at the opposing 37. The Rams get the ball back at their own 25. Two offensive pass inteference calls on back to back plays cost the Rams the drive. They punt from their own 5. Air Force starts near midfield. They're forced three and out.

The Rams start at their own 30. Three straight drops cause another three and out. Air Force starts back near midfield. The Rams force a three and out the other way. They start at their own 18. The Rams get to the 12 and are forced to kick a field goal. Martin's 30-yard field goal is in. 10-3 Air Force.

Air Force starts their drive at midfield after a facemask penalty. The Rams hold them down though. The Rams get the ball at their own 38. A holding penalty stops their drive and they punt. Air Force gets the ball at their own 9.

The Rams call a timeout and get the ball back at the Falcons 44 with 19 seconds left. They can't get down the field.

Halftime Score

Air Force 10

Colorado State 3

Second Half

Air Force starts near midfield. Thomas Garcia smacks the QB on a broken play and Arthur Kenny falls on it. Colorado State ball at the 33.

Bad line play and drops cause them to go three and out. Another holding play pins them deep. They'd have been better off punting on first. Air Force starts at midfield again.

Danny Green forces a fumble but the Falcons fall on it for a gain of 9. They're driving again. They're stopped at the 34. A 52-yard field goal attempt is good. 13-3 Air Force.

The Rams can't move the ball. Another three and out. The Falcons start at their own 45 again. Great plays by Thomas Garcia force them to punt.

A blown assignment allows David Garcia a straight shot to the endzone. He drops it. Franklin Garrett would've had that one, but he's injured. The Rams punt. Coach Cherry is giving Garcia an earful.

FS Danny Green is hurt on the punt return. A knee injury that looks severe.

At their own 25 the Falcons run short curls on first down. Arthur Kenny smacks the QB. He fumbles. Thomas Garcia leaps over a pile of falling players to grab it. Rams ball at the 19. Two broken lines and a drop force them to kick a field goal. Martin's 36-yard field goal is good. 13-6 Air Force.

A shanked kickoff starts the Falcons at the 40. Starting CB Joel Pollock gets injured and the Rams lose another player.

A broken coverage gives up a 23-yard TD pass. 20-6 Air Force.

An unnecessary roughness penalty gives the Rams the ball at midfield as time expires in the third quarter. 20-6 Air Force.

Poor line play and drops cost the Rams another drive. They are forced to punt at 4th & 19. The Rams force a three and out and start back at their own 24. A huge play by Leonard Schmidt gets them down the field. The 46-yard play is followed up by a 23-yard catch by David Garcia. Just like that they're at the opponents 7. The screen to Peter Velez bounces off his chest and is picked by the safety. The Rams lose possession.

They force a three and out but a booming punt pins them at their own 1. A false start penalty moves them back 18 inches. They make their way out of their own endzone. They can't get past the 30 and have to punt. Under 7 minutes left.

A three and out gets the ball back to the Rams at their own 17 with 4 and a half minutes left. Bad line play leads to a bad throw. It's picked off by Air Force on first down. The Falcons get ballsy at the 7 two plays later and DE Norman Gonzalez breathes life into the Rams hopes with a pick.

A 4th and 10 at the 20 decides the game. Meredith overthrows and the game is essentially over. The Falcons run the clock out. The Rams get the ball at their 40 down 23-6 with 40 seconds left. They do nothing.

Air Force wins 23-6.

Thomas Garcia leads NCAA candidates for the Jim Thorpe award

Outpacing every other defensive back in tackles, Thomas Garcia has become a strong candidate for the Thorpe award. Not only due to his production (107 tackles, 4 interceptions, 6 forced fumbles, and multiple sacks) but due to his key role in the defense. Garcia is the heart and soul of the Colorado State defense and losing him for even a single game would prove costly for the Rams. He controls from the back and is able to turn a deep zone call into a -2 yard rush due to his athleticism, speed, and next-level instincts.

Undefeated #19 Utah State loses a thriller to #11 Tennessee in Week 11

In a game that went to double OT with a final score of 54-51, the Aggies lost their first game of the year in an out-of-conference matchup that likely costs them any shot at the college football playoffs. The Aggies had become strong contenders to become the first team not from a power five conference to make it into the playoffs. They decimated their strongest competition in the conference in Boise State and rolled through the others in the strong Mountain division. They should be a lock for a New Year's Six bowl game barring any dramatic upsets.

Will do. It looks like Ohio State will be facing only tough team left in #24 Nebraska. Otherwise it's on pace for Michigan v Ohio State to be a big one.

Minnesota is 6-4 overall but 2-4 in conference.

Colorado State @ New Mexico (Preview)

In a game expected to be in clear weather, with a temperature of around the 50s, the Lobos are expected to defeated the Rams by around 5 points. New Mexico (6-4, 4-3 MW) has been lackluster against better competition, but have beaten down on lesser teams like Colorado State (4-6, 2-5 MW). With a loss, the Rams are likely out of bowl contention. On paper the Rams have the edge, but Vegas is backing the Lobos all the way.

Cherry's prediction: 24-21 New Mexico

The Lobos are forced to turnover on downs and a third down 8-yard run ends the game. The Rams knee and time expires.

"I'm glad we finally got it done. It hurt a lot to lose coming in as an 8 or 15 point favorite against teams like Hawaii and San Jose and losing. Getting an upset against a very good New Mexico team makes our effort in conference feel so much better. We also are glad that we're still in the hunt for a bowl game. We've kept doing our thing and going through our routines and it's finally beginning to work out. This team is only going to get better from here on out. I'm proud of these kids."

Colorado State vs. Arkansas (Preview)

Colorado State opens up as a 16-point underdog against the Arkansas Razorbacks. It's the largest spread the Rams have faced all year, and shows the level of competition they'll be facing with a potential redemption against the SEC. Expected temperatures should be around the 60s with clouds overhead.

Cherry discusses Colorado and Arkansas

"It shows that we're not going to lay down. We were 4-6, on a 4-game losing streak, and on the edge of losing a shot at a bowl game. If we can beat a strong Colorado team 62-20, we can give the Razorbacks a fight. Our guys are hot on both sides of the ball. Arkansas is a good team, but we have the best free safety in college football right now. We have a great QB who has been underrated all year. A healthy line that is one of the best in the west. Great wide receivers. A strong staff, and a fanbase that is hungry and pushing us to do great things. We're going to go give them hell. Knights of green and gold."
