Wilkerson: " I Don't Feel Like Jets Want Me "

"It's shocking. It's frustrating," Wilkerson told The New York Post's Brian Costello this week. "Because I feel like I've earned it and I deserve it. It would be different if I was just a mediocre player. I feel like each and every week I'm dominating and it's showing. The stats speak for themselves. Basically, what more do I need to do? You know what I mean?"

 

 

"Do I feel that they want me back? As of right now, no. I don't feel like they want me," Wilkerson said. "I'm a talented guy. Everybody knows that. I feel like they're going to get the best they can out of me and just let me go. That's how I feel. Do I like that feeling? No. I'm a New Jersey guy, born and raised and would love to raise my family here."

This seems like it has been going on forever, and I don't really get the Jets thinking. They do have some major cap concerns, but now that they have waiting on Wilk, they are going to have to give him EVEN MORE money as these other big deals keep hitting the table. Annual money, guarantees, averages.. all higher than what they would have paid last year or even a couple years ago on a long term extension.

 

He is always exceeding expectations and is such a huge piece of that defense. If you don't want him, send him to Green Bay! Ha

Jets signed DE Muhammad Wilkerson to a five-year contract.

 

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said the deal will be worth $17 million annually. Of all the deals that went down before Friday's deadline, this one is easily the most shocking. Wilkerson stayed far away from OTAs and minicamp and was expected to hold out well into training camp if not the regular season. This contract materialized seemingly out of thin air. As the deal will surely lower Wilkerson's 2016 cap number -- valued at $15.7 million under the tag -- the agreement should free up space if the Jets ever get serious about re-signing Ryan Fitzpatrick.
