I agree we need to get politics out, but it is- at least so far- a myth that Democrats engage in gerrymandering anywhere near the same amount and to the same extreme that the GOP does.

Note that there is now nothing stopping them from doing so, if they should so wish, should they win in 2020- as you pointed out. But the idea that this is currently- or even historically- a both parties problem is simply Republican propaganda. It is the GOP that has done extreme gerrymandering at a rate far far worse than the Dems do. I'm not saying its from the goodness of their hearts, mind you, its just the Dems dont need to do so at this point to win elections.

For the record, I agree with SteVo here, let math do it.

Is it GOP propaganda that Democrats have completely abandoned unions except for when it comes time to ask for their support?

Is it GOP propaganda that California, the bluest state in the country, is also one of the biggest fracking states and has a massive homeless epidemic.

I could go on. The Democrats lose PARTIALLY because of Gerrymandering, sure but the Democrats are supposed to be the party of the worker. Debate tickets went for 2,000 per night. They served Champagne and caviar. Let me ask you, who do you think those debates were for? Were they for teachers and electricians or were they for big money donors? Now let me ask you this, do you think those people are just altruistically giving their money to Democrats or just HOPING that they do what they say with no deals made? The fact is that the Democrats take money from fossil fuel, Pharma and insurance, defense contractors and banks. Can you explain to me how you know that and I do know that you know that but can you please just explain to me how Democrats are different from Republicans?

Democrats serve as controlled opposition. Martin Luther King Jr. himself remarked on this which has been totally white washed from history along with the majority of the man's message. All anyone knows about King is "I HAVE A DREAM" and that he was shot which is a fucking travesty.

  2. @ThanatosOk, so good post. I agree with a lot of what you said. First, the decision was awful. I think their are a lot of reasons why Republicans dominate politically though.

    1. Media is controlled by massive multi-billion dollar conglomerates on the TV, radio and even the internet with YouTube, Facebook and Twitter cracking down on opposing narratives. This has resulted in the media becoming MASSIVELY right wing. (Bill Clinton helped this happen with the telecommunications act btw)

    2. It's legal to buy elections. Where do you think the most money goes to? It goes to people who promote conservative foreign and economic policy regardless of party affiliation. Democrats are permitted to be socially liberal because it doesn't effect the bottom line.

    3. Now that the Democrats have abandoned their voting base they have predictably low turn out. That's what happens when you elect Dems and they turn around and ship jobs overseas.

Gerrymandering is bad and undemocratic to be sure but the Democrats get dominated politically because they have no soul for the most part. They've helped make it so people who might organize or volunteer or even run for office are too poor and don't have the time to do so. They're controlled opposition to the batshit crazy right wing that wants to destroy the planet, start WWIII and put middle America in the poor house. They want to do all those things too but with a smile instead of a boot on the neck and if we keep blindly supporting them, they will continue to move further and further to the right.

If only Warren was like Obama. She's way worse.

    https://observer.com/2017/08/court-admits-dnc-and-debbie-wasserman-schulz-rigged-primaries-against-sanders/

I'm pretty sure we're getting WARren whether we like it or not, my dude. Anyone who threatens the corporate cash flow of the democratic party will be ignored as much as possible and if that doesn't work they will be smeared and if THAT doesn't work they will be outright cheated.

  4. I hope Liz Warren gets skull fucked in the debates tonight. She's an Obama/Clinton redux. She's painting herself as a watered down Bernie Sanders. You can be certain that if she's elected we'll have our 4th Republican president since Reagan, nothing will happen with climate change, we will continue to pay for the forever wars on vague ideas without ever being attacked by a sovereign nation, we won't get medicare for all and Wallstreet will continue to run the country.

You can say that about any of the candidates except Sanders, Gabbard and Gravel. Every single one of the rest of them is a total fucking piece of shit liar.

Did ya'll see Hickenlooper plans to sue any state that outlaws fracking? How is he running as a Democrat?

  5. Yeah idk man I just think that while you and I don't have a lot to give to charity, the federal government can put A LOT towards that without even spending extra money if the Pentagon audits were taken remotely seriously and we could get real cuts to the military budget. I think a real simple way would be to stop selling weapons and put those people to work creating a green infrastructure instead of building bombs. I think it would make us and our allies a lot safer too.

There's no doubt that people have individual responsibility and need to make personal changes too but sometimes it's hard to be able to afford to make those changes or maybe even just the knowledge of what actions are available and why they're important. We can't make that an excuse for inaction imo. That's a big mistake.

Bjorn going back and hitting one of my other posts made me realize I forgot something I've been meaning to post.

I am super frustrated that the Democrats absolutely refuse to do a post-mortem on 2016. It seems like any time anyone dares criticize Hillary from the left, the Dems jump to her defense. Their analysis has basically been "these people were racist" full stop. That's how you lose again in 2020 if you refuse to even consider your campaign to have been run poorly and for what reasons that happened.

The reason is that the party is controlled by money and not it's actual constituents. They know that if they move to the left that their corporate cash flow will dry up. They're trying to stack the deck for Clintonite centrists all over the country and we've already seen it early in the primary process. As a result the Democrats function as a party of controlled opposition.

  7. I checked the link and it worked for me but cell phones act weird sometimes lol. What other tools do we have to make this shit happen? I don't sit on any boards of any companies or have a large amount of private wealth. I do have a vote though and I do have a right to participate in government. If your solution is to just say fuck it, it's too late, then I guess by all means, do you but idk man I guess we just have different approaches.

  8. People ARE proposing solutions https://www.votetulsi.com/node/32974 (Off Act aka H.R. 3671)

How do we solve it? Devote more money, more resources and more minds to the problem and we will solve it exactly the same way we did when we put a man on the moon.

    https://mikegravel.com/citizens-amendment-to-the-constitution-of-the-united-states-2/

I would also really love to see Mike Gravel's vision of A Citizens Amendment to The Constitution by one of the Democratic candidates. Just as an aside.

  9. There are tons of scientists with climate change solutions but we don't see them in news papers or on TV. We see lobbyists lol. There's no one thing that will solve our climate crisis. It's about a lot of smart people implementing a lot of ideas and yes it is about helping other countries get off fossil fuels and yes we need to do whatever it takes.

How about Tulsi Gabbard calling out the false flag oil tanker shenanigans? There is only one peace candidate in the race folks and I'm not talking about Bernie Sanders. I would support Bernie if he gets the nomination but it makes me sick to repeat the state propaganda establishing these foreign leaders as dictators or illigitiment because it helps them establish the pretext of a pre-emptive attack. Tulsi Gabbard refuses to give into that. I need someone to explain to me how people are better off when the infrastructure of their countries are destroyed and thousands are killed.

  10. I think the Mavericks are going to look to make a splash  this off-season. They have 2 of the 5 best European prospects of all time and they're young and under contract. I think it's going to be harder for them because of the playoff injuries, the demand for guys like Kemba Walker is a lot higher. Maybe if Reddish slips the Mavs might try to make a move idk but they have to be licking their chops with the Warriors and Spurs in limbo a little.

  11. @Thanatosit's hilarious that people think there is more money in spreading some client change conspiracy than there is taking money from fossil fuel companies to deny it's existence. I always say this to libertarians and conservatives. Don't you want clean water and clean air? Shouldn't land be protected where people farm and hunt? Ya know, conservationism like Teddy Roosevelt? Don't you think he would be interested in preserving the environment?

  12. With how crazy the NBA off season is I thought it might be fun to make a thread pitching scenarios and discussing them and stuff. I'll get the ball rolling with a couple I guess

    1. Kawhi signs a 3 year max deal in Toronto with an opt in for a 4th. after 3-4 years Kawhi goes to the Lakers after LeBron is retired. By then I would think the Lakers will have a competent GM, coach and a co-star or two for Kawhi to play with. Meanwhile he can play on a Championship team with a great GM that's undoubtedly his team. He wouldn't have to deal with playing on the same team as "King" James either which is apparently no picnic.

    2. Boston lets Kyrie walk, trades for Mike Conley and signs DeMarcus Cousins. I think Boston would be better off keeping their young depth and finding some good veteran pieces that won't force them to blow out their team in acquiring. Conley is the perfect PG for this team and Cousins would provide the rebounding and inside scoring that they've needed to get over the top. That's what I do if I'm Ainge

    3. If I'm Brooklyn and I'm already planning on signing Kyrie Irving I'm sending DeAngelo Russell and whatever combination of picks and players it takes to get Anthony Davis. The Pelicans already have the top pick secured and if they want more draft picks they can trade Holiday too. If they get offered a player the caliber of Russell who fits the timeline of Zion, they're jumping on it.

    4. If I'm GS I'm maxing Klay and letting Durant and Cousins walk. Everyone outside of Curry and Thompson is on the trading block. GS needs to re-shuffle the deck.

    5. I think a lot of teams will be scared to offer KD the max max for the number of years he'll want and in come the fucking Knicks. You can't really blame them. I think free agents will again turn them down but if they can land Durant and some their young talent can prove themselves while Durant sits then they have some trade assets. They also have the added bonus of not essentially having to waste a year playing on a bad team until Durant gets healthy to pitch to free agents next year.

    6. Jimmy Butler is a Philly guy. He just shares the mentality of the Philadelphia fan base. This team without having much time to gel took the eventual champs to 7 and were ousted on a last second shot from what may be the best player in the NBA. More than anything, Jimmy Butler wants to compete for a championship more than he even wants to get paid. That doesn't mean he's taking anything less than a max deal but where is Butler going to go to get more money and a better chance at winning a title? Maybe the Clippers depending on what they can do this offseason but I think Butler is going to want to run it back. The Sixers really should offer Tobias Harris the max. They're not going to get Middleton away from the Bucks. Maybe you could argue that the Sixers could just sign role players to replace Harris but that's a big risk. Bring the team back from last year with a few new pieces and see if you can build enough chemistry over a full off season and season and make another run at coming out of the East.

I will say the blame for this *still* being an issue is squarely on the shoulders of Mitch McConnell. It was going to pass in 2015 and then Mitch blocked it because he couldn't attach a rider to it. Shame on everyone for it being an issue even that long, but Mitch is largely responsible for the past three years of stalling.

Why weren't the Dems trying to use this one to win an election though? Stewart and his people lobbied Dems too. Mitch McConnell is a fucking chode to be certain but there's a reason why he kicks the Democrats ass legislatively wise. The reason is that the Democrats are controlled opposition. Did you see the Koch brothers are going to be giving money to incumbent Dems? They're owned by the same oligarchs as the Republicans.

  14. What more proof do we need to say that we don't live in a democratic society? Who would be against this on either/any side? Should we really be surprised though? I mean is this really any worse than dropping bombs on women and children so that we can steal their resources? These are some of the worst, most disgusting human beings in the world and they are just as bad as Assad, Hussein, Kadhafi, you name it. They're doing this shit for a fucking pay day.

However, their opponent was Brett Favre, and against Favre if he's not winning the game, he's losing the game. He threw a pick two plays into the overtime period, and after a few unsuccessful plays from the Giants offense, they kicked a 47 yard field goal and made it straight through, winning 23-20 in OT.

This perfectly encapsulates the careers of both Eli and Bert. lol
