    Notes

First of all, player stats are unavailable for this game because I accidentally exited the game before collecting them. lolStevofail.

More importantly, though, we got our season off to a decent start. Several more game simulations are coming up within minutes, since I've got some free time. Hooray, weekends!

EDIT: WR Majin Matthews has won ACC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Houston. His stat line: 12 Rec, 161 Yds, 3 TDs.

  2. Despite reports of the team's serious interest in Peyton Manning, the Palm Beach Post still considers free agent Matt Flynn to be the Dolphins' most likely quarterback in 2012.

Flynn's familiarity with new head coach Joe Philbin is hard to overlook, and there are no guarantees about Manning's health or whereabouts. A source tells the Post that Flynn "holds Philbin in high regard." Because of his knowledge of Philbin's offense, Flynn could gets things moving quickly in Miami. The 26-year-old is still going to command a hefty long-term contract.

This makes sense. A lot of teams will likely be vying for Manning's services, while Flynn probably won't squeeze Miami dry financially knowing that he's comfortable in Philbin's system.

  3. Ya, the Shiavo question really threw me. But after it was asked I got to thinking about it and maybe it's just one of those issues that is really important to Floridians? Kind of like the alternative fuel and Ethanol stuff here in Iowa.

As I said, it's a lot more important to Floridians than it should be. If there's one issue that we really should be concerned with it's the housing market, specifically foreclosures.

  4. - Newt Gingrich absolutely demolished Mitt Romney. Romney was reeling all night and just couldn't get anything going.

The story of the debate was certainly Romney vs. Gingrich, and I agree that Gingrich got the better of him. Romney's attacks just seemed to be regurgitation of the smear ads that have been leveled against him already, while Gingrich's passionate claims that Romney was spreading false information about him seemed pretty authentic.

    - Mitt was incapable of answering the question at the end of the debate... "HOw have you served conservatism"... Which definitely is going to lose him even more ground than he did getting destroyed by Newt.

I feel like Romney came off as really sleezy tonight overall. He just seems like such a stereotypical politician. He deflected every question, only answering the parts that made him look good and constantly going out of his way to promote his own ideas and/or attack Obama. (I'm usually not against any anti-Obama sentiment, but take some time to answer what you were asked, Mitt.) There was probably a solid 45-60-second segment where Romney just rambled and did nothing but state the obvious--that the economy is bad and that Obama's actions haven't helped it significantly--but said nothing of what we needed to do to fix it.

I went into this debate with Romney as my 2nd favorite candidate (way behind Ron Paul), and I still can't say I prefer Gingrich or Santorum to him, but I certainly lost a little respect for him tonight.

    - Newt has really adopted a ton of Ron Paul's political stances for this election cycle. I am still surprised people love the guy so much... Being that the Republican basically kicked his ass to the curb as Speaker. His foreign policy still sucks, and he looks just as fake as his politics.

I think that's a conscious and deliberate decision; Newt and his campaign see the writing on the wall, that the nomination is likely to become a two-horse race with he and Romney. If he is able to take any sort of significant majority of Ron Paul's votes, that could end up being the difference.

    - Ron Paul had some good moments but really had to fight for time.. yet again. I think the Terry Shivo (spell fail) question kinda befundled him, as it did me. Surprised it was brought up, tbh.

He definitely had to fight for face time, but any time he spoke he nailed it. The Schiavo question made me facepalm because people in Florida make too big a deal out of it, and it may have caught Paul off-guard a bit, but I think he still turned out a decent response. Again though, overall I thought Paul had a fantastic debate. His comments at the end about a conservative government serving the people by following the Constitution and promoting liberty were awesome.

    - Santorum is still hellbent on going to nuclear war with Iran and even Cuba. Sounds awesome.

No kidding. Listening to his comments about the Iran situation, it really seems like he wants to go to war with those guys right fucking now, lol.

  5. Anybody else watch the debate tonight? Being that this is the beginning of the battle for Florida I decided to watch the whole thing with my roommate and a couple friends. So for those of you who saw it, thoughts? Is it still Romney's nomination to lose? How much did the outside guys (Ron Paul and Rick Santorum) improve their chances?

  6. If they are able to sign much of their other impending agents (like Razor mentioned) I don't think this would be a horrible idea. They should definitely make an offer to Mario, but some team out there is probably willing to give him a ridiculously lucrative contract. With the Texans defense proving down the stretch that they can play well without him, there's no reason Houston should be that team.

  7. Steelers president Art Rooney II wants to "shift the offense back toward its blue-collar identity of years past," according to ESPN.com.

Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians' contract was not renewed in part because of his pass-heavy tendencies. The Steelers ran the ball 434 times this season, compared with 539 pass attempts. They finished 12th in the league in total yardage. Still, the Steelers' best offense is with Ben Roethlisberger throwing to explosive wideouts. Rooney will find that out quickly if he tries to demand a run-oriented scheme.

  8. Holy fuck?

Can you pick a worse matchup, NFL?

Here, if you're trying to build European interest in the sport, I'll help you out.

Pittsburgh vs Baltimore - Old fashioned NFL beat down

Green Bay vs Chicago - Classic rivalry, almost always good game

San Francisco vs New York - Has been money this year. Awesome games by these two.

New Orleans vs New England - Typical shootout here.

Notice how St Louis is not found within my suggestions. Bad teams = bad games... Science 101.

If you want to garner interest in American football in London, you don't fucking put the worst team against the best team. Dear god.

You have a point with your suggestions but to take one of those rivalry games away from Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Solider Field, or Lambeau...would be ridiculous IMO.

  9. 1-13 on 3rd Down for the Niners.

Seems like a pretty big strike against the offense to me.

The 00 Ravens and 02 Bucs won Super Bowls with amazing defense and mediocre to bad offenses, yet you have the Patriots winning with a great offfense and bad defense.

Oh c'mon, the NFL has changed so much since 2002. The days of quarterbacks like Trent Dilfer winning the Super Bowl are over. Super Bowl winning QBs since 2002:

    Tom Brady

    Tom Brady

    Ben Roethlisberger

    Peyton Manning

    Eli Manning

    Ben Roethlisberger

    Drew Brees

    Aaron Rodgers

    Eli Manning or Tom Brady
