    Pats @ Dolphins

My mistake. I forgot to include 2001 (which did have a big loss). But my other point still stands. The Pats hadn't rolled over in Miami in 8 years before today. It's been competitive and they've lost some close ones, which is what can be expected in most cases on the road against a rival. But nothing to indicate a double-digit loss in Miami was in order this year. I'm not downplaying NE nearly as much as I'm saying it'd be a nice change of pace to see the Phins get some credit when they do things well, as opposed to people just saying NE had an off day.

A look at the history tells a different story. New England has a winning record in Miami in the Brady era and hadn't lost a game in Miami by more than 4 points since 2006. Not exactly what I'd call shitting the bed.

Satisfying win amid all the usual "Phins won't get it done against the Pats" arguments. Hopefully a sign of good things to come.

Right...no he isn't and no he doesn't. Tannehill is Miami's best QB, up to this point, since Pennington, and probably even as far back as 2001 when you consider his overall skillset. While it's true that that statement alone doesn't mean much considering what they've worked with in that span, you'll be hard pressed to find analysts worth their salt who say he's retrograded in his performance, much less that he blows. Except people like Skip, who basically get paid to troll the consensus. Increased his completion percentage while throwing nearly 100 more times last season than his rookie season. Upped his yardage, doubled his TD output while only throwing 4 more INTs. Threw 6 more 20+ plays and 7 more 40+ plays, and increased his overall passer rating. The one major downside to his season was the sacks. That number only comes as a shock to people who have no idea just how good Long was on the left side, and just how bad they felt his absence last year. You take away any sophomore QB's blindside protector of that caliber, and the numbers will skew into a negative light almost overnight. All I'm doing here is spouting numbers you can find on any website, because that's all it takes for anyone with half an ounce of common sense to realize he improved last year, and is in almost zero danger of losing his starting job. Seeing as how i also watched every one of his games, I speak from more than just what I can read.

    The good news thread

First, a little backstory... On February 18 I drank myself into a stupor (not the first time) that carried over into the next morning. I overslept by 2 hours and went into work with one of the worst hangovers I ever had, and self-referred myself for having a drinking problem. In the aftermath, I didn't receive any reprimands, but my TDY was cut short, and I was sent back home to a 30-day in-patient program for vets. In one last act of defiance, I finished off the alcohol I had in my house the day before I left for treatment. That was March 2. Since then, amidst in-patient, out-patient, aftercare, and AA meetings, I haven't had a drop of alcohol, which marks the longest period I have ever gone without a drink since I was old enough to do so. I have received a quarterly NCO award from my First Sergeant. I have restructured our shop's training program and been named as the Assistant NCOIC. I've been selected for promotion to E-6 after only my second time testing. I completed a college course with a 97 and brought myself that much closer to my Associate's in Meteorology. And most importantly, I have become a functioning member of my marriage at home once again. Needless to say, it's been a good 5 months for this recovering alcoholic.

Yeah, they've lost me. Are they playing football or paying homage to Top Gun volleyball montages in their own twisted way?
  11. QB - It's been fun watching Rodgers rise from his origin as "Favre's lowly backup". Love his arm and he actually found a way to embrace the gunslinger mentality without losing an ounce of efficiency. He ignored all the drama and made the Pack his team without even blinking. Speaking of which, does his expression ever change? RB - I'm genuinely surprised, not necessarily that Shady is leading, but by the margin with which he's leading. I love his moves, but I love AP's just as much. And I think what makes AP more exciting for me is how likely he is to run through you as around you. Besides, how does a guy of his size move with such agility, anyway? It's insane. And chances are, you aren't even paying attention to what I'm saying because Olivia's boobs are still in your field of view... WR - This feels like an easy one, and it almost feels like the easy way out by picking him. CJ is an athletic freak, it there aren't many who physically matchup with him. And he makes one-handed snags and RZ jump balls look way too easy. However, Dez Bryant and AJ Green weren't too far behind as far as overall excitement factor goes for me. TE - Not sure why I favor Graham over Gronk here, but I think it just has to do with my personal preference for finesse over power. They are basically interchangeable at #1 for me. Most exciting position to watch:

    Last TV Show You Watched?

I've only seen the pilot thus far. I liked the idea. As far as the Strain goes, I like it so far, but it reminded me why I hate most pilots...forced exposition out the ass. They feel they have to get it all into that 90 minute slot to get the viewer up to speed, but it just doesn't work for me. Just lead me on little by little all season and I'm cool with it.

    Top 10 SG

That Crawford gif is nasty. Just sayin'. Nice list D-Mac. Unfortunately I still know very little about the NBA's elite, so my input is limited. Glad to see Ginobili in there. Even at his age he still pulls off what is asked of him, and sometimes even more.

    Your All Overrated Team

Oh, the hard feelings abound...jackass In all honesty I agree with the Ellerbe pick. I do think he's talented, but he absolutely benefited more from timing than talent in regards to his current contract. And while I can't rule out Finnegan, I haven't really heard an excessive amount of hype about him this year, so I'm not sure how it makes him overrated. Maybe I just haven't been watching enough news lately. In his defense, he was hurt last year, wasn't he? I also mentioned in another thread that the Phins are more likely in need of his perimeter tackling ability (a la 2012) than they are of whatever ball skills he has left (if any). I think he will fill his role better than some people think.

    Cobb: I Haven't Earned Extension

Kind of echoing JD's thoughts, it's hard to know for sure how genuine his comments are, or at least what is motivating them. At the very least, it's most certainly the smartest and classiest thing to say in his position, considering just how good he has been up to this point. I like him, and my gut tells me it's an honest statement. But either way, the Packers would be wise to lock him up before he blows up, because with him I think it's "when" rather than "if".

At the risk of facing some ridicule, I almost like the concept. I mean, your focus has to be pretty sharp to catch a ball with the equivalent of beer goggles on.

    NBA GOAT

It is, however, an unfortunate truth that due to the evolution of any sport, comparing athletes from across multiple generations of said evolution is unfair to BOTH athletes. I'm playing devil's advocate here, so bear with me. It's a reason I typically avoid GOAT arguments like the plague. Strategies and skillsets to get around or defend your opponent are constantly changing, and we will never know how a guy from an older generation would have handled the speed, size, finesse, blah, blah, blah of the newer generation, or vice-versa. The one thing we can probably say for sure is that the competitive spirit that made the players great WITHIN their generation would have likely led them to build themselves up to the level required to become an all-time great in any era. It's in their very nature to compete among the best. But unless we could ever see all these greats play in the same era, under the same conditions, same everything, the GOAT will almost always be a product of what specific qualities each individual professional and amateur critic considers the epitome of greatness. Personal preference. I think Barry Sanders is the greatest RB of all time, someone else thinks it's Jim Brown, and someone else is convinced it's Walter Payton (not a hijack attempt...just the only example I could think of quickly). Are we all wrong? Are we all right? Back to basketball in particular, is it fair at all for there to only be one GOAT among players at different positions with different roles? I am in agreement with the people who are not convinced that it's an open/shut case. But I also don't think it can ever be a conclusive one in anyone's favor. Or maybe somebody will come along and average a quintuple-double and make it easy for us.

I admit I'm surprised about the overwhelming lead Scar-Jo has. As convinced as I am in my delusional mind that I will one day marry her, I don't think she adds up to Josh in terms of range and convincing delivery. Black Hawk Down, Lucky Number Sleven, Penny Dreadful...hell, even 30 Days of Night...were all pretty solid performance from him. And Bana doomed himself in my book with the unholy trinity of Troy, Star Trek, and The Hulk. If I'm brutally honest the only role I enjoyed seeing from him was Hoot from BHD.
