2011, Best Player in the NFL: Qualifying Round

33% of these guys are being eliminated in the next round anyway, the point of doing it like this is so teams with a lot of talented players (Chargers...) get more slots in the tournament, so it's a fairer representation.

    Randomized Mock Draft

Hey, who wants to see what happens when I get bored? I know you do! Alright, so I did a weighted lottery for the Draft. Each team gets as many "balls" as they had losses, unless they made the playoffs. Then the situation goes like this: 5 balls for losing in the wildcard round or number of losses (Whichever is less) 4 balls for losing the divisonal round 3 balls for losing the conference championship 2 balls for losing the super bowl 1 for winning the superbowl In the end, the lottery was weighted thusly: Team - Balls Carolina 1-14 Denver 15-26 Buffalo 27-38 Cincinnati 39-50 Arizona 54-64 Cleveland 65-75 San Fran 76-85 Tennessee 86-95 Dallas 96-105 Washington 106-115 Houston 116-125 Minny 126-135 Detroit 136-145 St. Louis 146-154 Miami 155-163 Jacksonville 164-171 Oakland 172-179 San Diego 180-186 New YorkG 187-192 Tampa Bay 193-198 Kansas City 199-203 Indianapolis 204-208 Philly 209-213 New Orleans 214-219 Seattle 220-223 Baltimore 224-227 Atlanta 228-230 New England 231-232 Chicago 233-235 New YorkJ 236-238 Pittsburgh 239-240 Green Bay 241 Order upcoming in the next post. I only need to draw one of those numbers for the team to be put up in the draft order.

    Randomized Mock Draft

    1. St. Louis Rams – Marcel Dareus, DT, Alabama The Rams have to love picking in the top spot of the draft once again, this time they can definitely take the best player on the board at a position of need, simply because this slot is so wide open. I'd say they go Dareus here and fill a big hole in the middle of their defense. 2. Detroit Lions – Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU What a big pick up for the Lions, Peterson instantly improves their god awful secondary and gives them a threat on all four downs. With the new touchback rule, Punt Returners are suddenly a lot more valuable. And he's kind of a good corner too. 3. Jacksonville Jaguars – Blaine Gabbert, QB, Mizzou The Jags grab the guy who should set up their franchise for years to come. After this draft season, Gabbert is starting to remove doubts in the minds of people and make him seem a viable QB for the future. 4. Tennessee Titans – Cam Newton, QB, Auburn They never learn, do they? Vince Young 2.0. 5. Dallas Cowboys – Nick Fairley, DE, Auburn This is a bit of a surprise, but I think Fairley would excel as a 3-4 DE, even if it's a bit out of sorts. 6. San Diego Chargers – Von Miller OLB, Texas A&M Miller is an excellent plan for filling the hole a Outside Linebacker that the Roider left. He'll step in right away and provide that key rush off the edge the Chargers need. 7. Buffalo Bills – Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina Aaron Maybin is a massive bust, so Quinn should step in and give the Bills the edge they need on defense. Either a 3-4 or a 4-3, Quinn makes sense off the edge. 8. Baltimore Ravens – Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska Baltimore grabs a shut down corner for their secondary, and continue the rebuilding project. Ozzie Newsome glad. 9. Pittsburgh Steelers – Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College The Steelers need to fix their offensive line, badly. Castonzo is the best overall prospect on the line, and definitely worth the slight reach 10. Washington Redskins – AJ Green, WR, Georgia Any pick would fill a need for the Skins here, they are just too weak everywhere else to focus on anything but BPA. 11. Denver Broncos – DaQuan Bowers, DE, Clemson John Fox loves himself some athletic defensive ends. I wouldn't like the pick, but it does make a bit of sense. 12. Houston Texans – Aldon Smith, OLB, Mizzou The Texans are in a rough position here, and have no choice but to grab an outside linebacker. 3-4 DE is about the only position they have settled on the defense, so Aldon is the highest rated player of need. 13. New Orleans Saints – Cameron Jordan, DE, California The Saints would love this pick, the back 4 is stacked enough, get some help on the trenches, guys. Cameron Jordan is the Gregg Williams defensive end, so he the correct choice here. 14. Oakland Raiders – Julio Jones, WR, Alabama Julio Jones is a great football playa... 15. Miami Dolphins – Mark Ingram, HB, Alabama Oh hey the Dolphins don't move either. Have the grandma pick, since it's the obvious one. 16. Philadelphia Eagles – Tyron Smith, OT, USC The Eagles pick up yet another tackle. He'd be a solid fit on either the Left or Right side, as long as he is opposite Jason Peters. You gotta protect the non-sliding bastard somehow. 17. Cleveland Browns – Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue It was gonna be a defensive lineman here, I just think Kerrigan would fit the Cleveland 4-3 better than Watt or Clayborn. Plus he's a high character with a high floor, something Holmgren likes. 18. Cincinnati Bengals – Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado We don't know whether Joseph is leaving via free agency, but the Bengals should stockpile defensive players while they can. There's no quarterback worth taking and the offensive line is already solid. 19. Arizona Cardinals – Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin Wonderful swing offensive lineman who could fill any one of the holes on Arizona's offensive line. It's either this or reach on a pass rusher. 20. Carolina Panthers -Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa The lottery really puts Carolina in a hole here, Lots of offensive linemen they don't need and defensive players who don't quite fit the scheme. I go with Clayborn since Charles Johnson may be stepping out. 21. San Francisco 49ers – J.J. Watt, DE, Wisconsin Watt will fit excellently opposite Justin Smith, and beside Aubrayo Franklin. His addition will make the 49ers pass rush scary again. 22. Kansas City Chiefs - Mike Pouncey, OG/C, Florida KC needs a replacement for Weigmann and Waters soon, Pouncey can fill at least one of these positions immediately. 23. New York Giants – Nate Solder, OT, Colorado I personally believe Solder has the most upside out of all the first round talent offensive tackles in this draft, but a few red flag issues probably means he'll be drafted later than most of these guys. Lots of potential for the future, which gives the Giants time to integrate him into their offensive line. 24. Seattle Seahawks – Jake Locker, QB, Washington Drafting the hometown kid here, it just makes too much sense, Hass is old and can't give you 16 games anymore, and Whitehurst is just a disappointment. Locker has the potential to be a good pick, but I sincerely doubt it, something about him just screams Trent Dilfer. 25. Chicago Bears – Corey Liuget, DT, Illinois The Bears need someone to fill the void that Tommie Harris has left, and Liuget is that guy. He could be their Dan Hampton, at least for a while. 26. New York Jets – Justin Houston, OLB, Georgia The Jets need an edge rusher badly, and this guy is very bad. In a good way. It'd be good to get Houston in New York, as long as we aren't in Georgia. CONFUSION. 27. Tampa Bay Bucs – Aaron Williams, FS, Texas Notice how I list him at Free Safety? Well he'll fill up cornerback if the Bucs decide to get rid of Talib as well, but secondary is suddenly a major concern for Tampa Bay. It suddenly overwhlems their need for a defensive end. Tanard Jackson is probably gone though, so he at least starts immediately. 28. Indianapolis Colts – Derek Sherrod, OT, Miss State The Colts try once again to replace Tarik Glenn. Peyton gets rid of the ball quickly, but a good offensive line makes sure he doesn't throw it away too quickly. 29. New England Patriots – Muhammad Wilkerson, DE, Temple This guy is too good to escape the first round. New England gets a really solid player here, he is just overpowering and explosive. 30. Green Bay Packers – Cameron Heyward, DE, tOSU Aside from the unproven Mike Neal, the Packers don't really have a rushing 3-4 Defensive End. Ironhead is definitely the complete piece any team would want. 31. Minnesota Vikings – Christian Ponder, QB, Florida State Despite being completely ripped off by the draft lottery, the Vikings get a blessing in disguise. Who wouldn't want Chad Pennington Jr. playing quarterback for them? Not a reach at this point, and gives Joe Webb some serious competition for the starting job. May the best guy win. 32. Atlanta Falcons – Mikel Leshoure, RB, Illinois I usually tend to end up low in mocking runningbacks to teams, so I'm gonna change that up. Turner is getting old, Snelling is often injured, and Norwood is gone, so LeShoure is the best balance available for the ball control Atlanta offense.

St. Louis Rams (152) 2. Detroit Lions (141) 3. Jacksonville Jaguars (171) 4. Tennessee Titans (88) 5. Dallas Cowboys (98) 6. San Diego Chargers (181) 7. Buffalo Bills (28) 8.
