Tomlin hangs up on Jacksonville conference call

It was a big game from Jacksonville's standpoint, lol. A saying comes to mind. Act like you've been there before.

5 Weeks In, Now predict the outcome

I'm going to have to reverse my opinion on the Carolina/Atlanta game. I think we take it now that Julio Jones is out and Gonzalez is obviously hurting. So that makes us 7-9/8-8 on the year.

    Players and Respect

Players that have a lot of my respect: Steve Smith. Always fights hard, regardless of his team's record, and is still one of the best in the league at 32. Chad Ochocinco. Before T.O. came into town, I enjoyed watching the Bengals game because I wasn't sure what Ocho would do. And he never took his antics so far that they were disrespectful. That one time where he "tried to bribe" the ref with a $1 bill was just priceless. Ben Roethlisberger & Tony Romo. Regardless of what I think about the latter as a QB, they both have my respect for playing hurt. We can talk about how stupid the Cowboys med staff is to let someone play with a collapsed lung, but still. Props to both of them. Players that don't have my respect: Albert Haynesworth. Acted like a spoiled child for the 'Skins, even though he was being paid tons of money. Terrell Owens. Nuff said. Dunta Robinson. This guy is quite simply a dirty player. They need to suspend him from some games if he does another crack at a WR before he breaks his own or someone else's neck. The Ryan Brothers. Both of these idiots like to shoot their mouths off and it's getting old. Let your actions do your talking, not your words. (Yes, I realize they aren't players.)

BLUE's NFL Upset Pick of the Week

That's not an upset. Carolina is better than Atlanta in nearly every phase of the game, stat-wise. Only reason why I think Atlanta will win it is because they're at home.

    TGP Week 5 Power Rankings

    1. (-) -And their defense stepped up, exactly when it needed to. This team is the best in the NFL, and it is looking more and more like the Packers are going to be the #1 seed in the NFC. 2. :Patriots: (-) -The Pats got a bit of revenge on the Jets, but I think they'd rather have the win in the playoffs last year. They also utilized a good run-game, albeit against New York, and their defense played solid. 3. (+1) -Their offensive line stepped up big-time against the Bears, helping Jahvid Best run for over 150 yards, the sole thing that had been missing from Detroit's offense. The secondary is still suspect, but every other aspect of this team is clicking. 4. (-1) -The Saints drop a spot because of their suspect showing against Carolina. They converted when they needed to, but the Panthers should have been beaten by two touchdowns or more the way that game was going. They let Carolina hang around, and nearly paid for it with a loss. Brees is just as hot as ever, though. 5. (-) -Bye week in Baltimore, and the Ravens stay put at #5. Texans coming to town next week for what should be a good test of the Ravens overall. 6. (-) -Nice rebound against Philadelphia. Their defense is reminding me of the Saints D during New Orleans Super Bowl run. Lots of takeaways are always great news for a team. If any team in the AFC can stop the Pats run to the #1 seed, it's them or Baltimore. 7. (+6) -Where did that come from? The Niners looked unstoppable Sunday against a previously good defense. This is what we expected last year from San Fran, who are running away with the NFC West now. Huge test at Detroit next week. 8. (+4) -The Raiders showed a lot of heart hanging in there against Houston, and playing the day after their iconic owner died looked to have helped the team emotionally. They wanted to win more than Houston, and it showed. Favorites for the AFC West crown at this point in the season. 9. (-2) -Houston was feeling Andre's loss Sunday, and losing Mario Williams for the season didn't help any. Still, it was a good Raiders team playing an emotionally charged game. The Texans aren't going anywhere. 10. (+1) -Bye week for Washington sees them move up a spot with losses by the Giants and Tampa. Next up is the imploding Philadelphia Eagles. 11. (+3) -Last week I said the Chargers 3-1 record was probably inflated, and simply because they are now 4-1 doesn't change my opinion at all. They nearly allowed Denver to come back and win, and if a fortuitous, (and horrible), unnecessary roughness wasn't given to them by the refs which enabled them to run off nearly all of the clock, Tebow could easily have engineered the comeback. The Raiders are the team to beat in the West, not San Diego. Despite that, with the other teams imploding around them, they get a jump in the rankings. 12. (+5) -Well, there's the Big Ben that we all know and love. Or hate. Despite playing on an injured foot, Ben tossed five touchdown passes against Tennessee, and helped the Steelers to quell some questions about whether Pitt was even going to make the playoffs this season. At least, for now. 13. (-5) -If I could figure out which Titans team will show up at a game, maybe I could predict one of their games correctly. Inconsistent play so far, but very much in the thick of things with Houston also losing. Of course, that means they blew their chance to move past the Texans in the race for the AFC South crown. Bye week up next gives them a chance to figure out what went wrong against Pitt. 14. (-5) -And the Giants laid an egg. A big one. Losing to the Hawks, at *home*, even. For shame. The way the East is losing games, it looks like they're trying to hand the division to Washington. 15. (+1) -Bye week for Dallas hopefully has prepared them for the Patriots. Going to New England is never easy, and even if the good Tony Romo shows up, the Cowboys would still have to pull off a tremendous team effort to beat Brady and the Pats. 16. (+5) -Dalton showing great poise in the pocket and engineering a comeback win for the second week in a row. All right, it was against the lowly Jaguars, but it was still impressive for a rookie quarterback whose main target is a rookie wide receiver. 17. (-7) -The Bucs got absolutely dominated in all phases of the game. Hopefully the good old-fashioned butt-kicking they received at the hands of the Niners wakes them up rather than demoralizes them. 18. (-3) -Atlanta's offense looked like Green Bay's on the first two drives of the game Sunday night, and then it looked like the Rams for the rest of the game. Dom Capers made adjustments and the Falcons never responded to them. Atlanta needs to step it up, Carolina is coming to town next week, and if they drop to 2-4, it would be a long uphill climb out of that hole. 19. (-) -They put up more of a fight against the Pats than some were expecting, but New England is a division opponent who they generally do play well against. Next up is Miami and a loss against the Dolphins would pretty much signal the end for New York. If you can't beat Miami this year, you might as well start looking towards next year. 20. (-2) -Did Chicago really have nine false starts against Detroit? That offensive line is just horrible. Forget making the playoffs or even having a winning record, the question in Chicago is whether Jay Cutler is going to *survive* the year. 21. (+3) -Impressive performance against the Giants solidifies the Seahawks as the second-best team in the NFC West. Unfortunately, that doesn't really mean all that much. Bye week up next for Seattle. 22. (+1) -The Panthers are 3 little mistakes away from being 4-1 instead of 1-4. The team has lots of talent and can hang with anyone, but just can't quite take the next step. Impressive showing against New Orleans on Sunday, but another game that Carolina should have won just slipped away at the end. 23. (-1) -Bye week in Cleveland hopefully helped them to answer some of the questions from the Titans pounding of them a week ago. Next up is Oakland, in Oakland. 24. (+2) -Denver changing to Tebow at quarterback might give the team a spark. They certainly seemed to play harder against San Diego once he was put in, and nearly pulled off the improbable comeback win. McGahee stepping up as the starter for runningback as well, and the Broncos may have just answered two of their most pressing questions in one week. 25. (-5) -So much for the Dream Team. Vick looked horrible the first half of the game, and his receivers have got to step up and make the catch for him, or at least not bat it into the hands of the other team. I'm done making excuses for them. The Eagles are a bad team with lots of talent who can't get it done when it counts. 26. (-1) -Dropping a game to winless Minnesota isn't going to improve your rankings. Adrian Peterson ran all over the Cardinals, and Kevin Kolb looked lost at times. Err, I mean, all the time. Cards have a lot of questions to answer over the bye week. 27. (+2) -Impressive comeback win against Indy, but why were they up 21 on you in the first place? The Chiefs have only beaten the lowly Vikes and Colts, but they are definitely looking better than a couple weeks ago. Bye week up next gives them time to regroup and try to turn around their season. 28. (+2) -The Vikings finally figured out that to win ballgames, they need to feed AP. The Ponder era should be starting soon in Minnesota, and with Peterson helping out on the ground, they should be able to ease him into the starting job. 29. (-1) -Heartbreaker against Kansas City. Curtis Painter is showing that maybe he has learned more than we previously thought while sitting under Peyton, and the Colts run-game showing a little life. Despite that, the Colts are 0-5, and looking like a good bet for a top-5 pick in the draft. 30. (-3) -MJD is still the entirety of the Jags offense. Or perhaps better said- the only threat Jacksonville has. The Jags did put up double their average amount of points per game against Cincy... but that doesn't mean much when your average points per game is ten. 31. (-1) -Bye week in Miami sees them fall a spot with the news that Henne is done for the season. Division rivals in New York up next, an upset is improbable, but stranger things have happened in the NFL. 32. (-) -Bye week leaves the Rams in last. The news that Amendola is done for the season certainly doesn't hurt their chances of the #1 overall pick, but they'll have to fend off the Dolphins for it. Next up is Green Bay, in Green Bay. Now THAT would be an upset.

5 Weeks In, Now predict the outcome

That leaves us at 6-9 on the year, with the Titans game making us 6-10 or 7-9. Pretty sure that's in the range of what I originally predicted. If we get to 7-9 that would be pretty cool. Would be more awesome if history repeated itself the same way it did when Fox took over, (1-15, 7-9, 11-5 and NFC Champions in the span of three years). All of this said, the Panthers could easily win out. We have proven we can hang with anyone, and its just little mistakes that keep killing us. If we stop those stupid mental errors, we can beat anyone in the league, Lions included.

    ESPN's Power Rankings: Week 6

LOL. It's because we keep using him at goal-line situations. Such stupid playcalling. We have D-Will and Stewart, why are we not giving it to a running back instead of risking Newton getting hurt?
  8. Ahem. An ad snuck into your post there, Blue. United Socialist States of America. Really. Get over it already, guy's making more of an ass of himself with each passing day.

Week 5, MNF | Bears vs Lions

That article says the Lions have the longest current win-streak, at 8, (now 9). Doesn't that belong to the Pack with 11? (Beat NYG and CHI in weeks 16 and 17, won 4 playoff games including the Super Bowl, and started 2011 5-0 = 11 straight wins.)
  10. You ain't beating Carolina either at your house or ours, not playing like that.

Romo doesn't "understand" how to play QB

Am I just totally missing something here? 13 games with multiple picks/4.5 seasons = Roughly 3 games a season with multiple picks, not 6.

Why did your team win/lose this week?

There were actually only 11. The last guy was next to Rivera about to go in when he calls the T.O. We should have just left the our defense in. Let Kasay try to hit the FG rushing like that, even without a block attempt.

    Biggest Performance of Week 5

Michael Vick, playing for the Buffalo Bills, had the biggest performance. Too soon?
  14. Thanatos

Why did your team win/lose this week?

First off, we played really well. I'm disappointed we didn't pull out the W, but I think Carolina has proven we can hang with anyone, despite a 1-4 record. Four reasons why we lost, all little, but little mistakes are what is killing us, and is the reason why we are 1-4 instead of 4-1. A) Rivera called a timeout with 2 seconds left at the end of the first half, which allowed Kasay to kick a FG. The Saints would have gotten the snap off in any case, but who knows whether Kasay would have hit the 46-yarder if he had had to rush it. B) Mare had a blocked extra point. Unacceptable. C) Cam threw a really bad pick with his first pass that led to 7 New Orleans points. D) Our defense, while stout most of the game, (giving up 16 at this point, I hardly count the 7 from the INT against them), couldn't hold Brees and company on the last drive. All we needed was one defensive stand and we could have won that game at the end, 27-23.

Week 5 | Saints vs Panthers

I get the feeling we're holding back a restrained monster or something. Newton isn't really "on", either.

    Should this be allowed?

Pretty sure his point was that there are, in the vast majority of cases, better people going to church than those the criminal *would be* hanging out with, were he to go to a jail. Even if there are a very few people that should be in jail who are in a church, nearly everyone who is in jail, should be in jail. It's just a better community, and thus, in theory, would be a better influence on the person than a jail cell with prison inmates would be. Would you disagree with that?

    Ngata fined $15,000

Really? What the hell was wrong with the hit? First you can't hit the QB in the legs, then in the head, and now in the back. Pretty soon you'll just have to tap the QB on the shoulder and ask him nicely to fall down.
  19. Thanatos

    Chrisitan Ponder time?

The better question here is: Who is Chrisitan Ponder? Seriously though, it's time to start him. Not next week, not the week after, NOW. There is zero reason to hold off. You aren't taking the division with Detroit and GB at 4-0, and you aren't getting a wildcard after starting 0-4. See what the kid can do.

    Team bars

If we're worried about it being messy, then just make it an "alt" skin for each team. Then people can choose to have it or not.
  21. Now he's really just showing he's an idiot. Regardless of whether or not you agree with what happened, his 1st amendment rights were never in question, and now he is saying that ESPN is Source
  22. Wow. I hope the Republicans sit up and take note. Perry can't take Obama, he's too much like he-who-shall-not-be-named, and Bachman is just an idiot. Romney's the only other person who has a shot, and I'd far rather have Ron Paul in office than Romney.
  23. I'm with WCS on this one. We really don't need the government to tell us even more shit we can or can't do, and this is a very minor thing. Let the states decide it if the people in that state decide its enough of an issue to do something about it, but we don't need the Federal government telling us that.
