BLUE 1,026 Posted February 8, 2012 (edited) Per Rotoworld.com: According to NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora, the Redskins are "fully expected" to use the franchise tag on free agent TE Fred Davis.LaCanfora, a former Redskins beat reporter, cites "numerous people in the organization." The franchise tag for tight ends is projected to be roughly $5.5 million, and the Redskins "for a change" have plenty of salary cap room. Still just 26 years old, Davis was the Skins' only consistent offensive playmaker in 2011. The tag makes more sense than a long-term deal now that Davis is in danger of a year-long suspension with his next positive drug test. seanbrock 1,684 Posted February 10, 2012 I would be more comfortable with them putting the tag on London Fletcher. Yeah I mean, he's probably only playing another year realistically.

BLUE 1,026 Posted February 24, 2012 Per Rotoworld.com: Yahoo! Sports' Jason Cole expects the Redskins to use the transition rather than franchise tag on free agent TE Fred Davis.Teams cannot apply both the transition and franchise tags in the same year, so the Redskins can't use the other one on SS LaRon Landry. The transition tag takes into account the top ten salaries at a player's respective position as opposed to the top five under the franchise tag. The last NFL player to receive the transition tag was OT Max Starks back in 2008. Feb 23 - 6:50 PM Source: Jason Cole on Twitter

BLUE 1,026 Posted March 2, 2012 Per Rotoworld.com: Redskins assigned the franchise tag to TE Fred Davis. One of the likelier franchise players to play the 2012 season under his one-year tag, Davis set career highs in receptions (59) and yards (796) last year while scoring three touchdowns despite missing the final four games due to a suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. Davis, 26, will be eligible to play all 16 games in 2012. While the Redskins may upgrade their wide receiver corps this offseason, Davis will remain a top-eight tight end target in fantasy leagues. He often plays in the slot and out wide, and is one of the top pass catchers at his position in the NFL. Mar 2 - 1:38 PM Source: ESPN 980 Washington
